Purpose : This research intends to identify the effects of game-based weight bearing exercises on balance, muscular activation, sit to stand to sit motions of stroke patients. Method : 30 patients who were diagnosed as hemiplegia by stroke less in than a year were sampled and they were classified into two group, one of which was game-based weight bearing balance exercise group, and the other was functional weight bearing exercise group. 15 people were randomly selected for each group. Each exercise was coordinated by this research for 8 weeks, 5 days a week. 3D motion analyzer was used to measure the sit to stand to sit motions and a stopwatch was used to measure the time for stand-up motions for 5 times. Result : In terms of analyzing sit to stand to sit motions by phases, game-based weight bearing balance exercise group showed significant reduction compared to functional weight-bearing exercise group in phase I, II, III, IV and total time. In terms of functional stand-up performance analysis, game-based weight bearing balance exercise group showed significant reduction compared to functional weight-bearing exercise group in 5 times stand-up examination. Conclusion : It was verified that game-based weight bearing balance exercise had positive impact on function recovery of stroke patients by enhancing sit to stand to sit capabilities. It is considered that game-based exercise was an effective intermediary for functional improvement of stroke patients, while also inducing consistent and voluntary participation by causing interest and motivation.
Purpose: In this study, we provide a way to assess even a slight effect of exercise on trunk-muscle activity. Materials and Methods: Seven healthy male participants (mean age, 24.7 ± 3.2 years; height, 171.2 ± 9.8 cm; and weight, 63.8 ± 11.9 kg) performed 15 sets of an exercise with 20 repetitions of 90° hip and right-knee flexion while lying supine. The exercise intensity was measured using the 10-point Rating of Perceived Exertion Scale after the first and 15th sets of exercises. Although cross-sectional areas and functional T2 mapping using ultrafast imaging (fast-acquired muscle functional magnetic resonance imaging, fast-mfMRI) have been proposed for imaging to evaluate exercise-induced muscle activity in real time, no previous studies have reported on the evaluation of trunk-muscle activity using functional T2 mapping. As a method for assessing trunk-muscle activity, we compared functional T2 mapping using ultrafast imaging (fast-mfMRI) with cross-sectional areas. Results: Although the muscle cross-sectional areas were increased by the exercise, there was no significant difference at rest. On the other hand, for all sets, the changes in T2 were significant compared with those at rest (P < 0.01). These results demonstrate that T2, calculated from fast-mfMRI images can be used to detect even a small amount of muscle activity induced by acute exercise, which was impossible to do with cross-sectional areas. Conclusion: Fast-mfMRI, which can also display functional information with detailed forms, enabled non-invasive real-time imaging for identifying and evaluating the degree of deep trunk-muscle activity induced by exercise.
Objectives: The purpose of this case study was to report the effect of Chuna therapy include Space Spinal Conduction Exercise and Manipulation Treatment for Functional dyspepsia patients. Objective : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of a community based group exercise intervention on motor functional capacity. To evaluate the immediate(post-treatment) effects after 6-weeks exercise program on the group exercise intervention(PNF and Circuit exercise). Methods : Subjects-Included persons with stroke who were living in the community. Thirty-seven subjects were randomly assigned to the PNF, Circuit exercise and control group participated in a repeated measures design that evaluated the subjects with pre-treatment, post-treatment(6 weeks). Functional ability outcome measures assessed the motor assessment scale(MAS) and EMG. Both treatment groups participated in exercise cJass three times a week for 6 weeks. Group programs focused on balance, functional motor capacity and walking ability. The PNF program was modified PNF pattem and techniques with emphasis on functional tasks when possible, as well as stretching of the more affected limb particularly in the more affected shoulder. The Circuit program with subjects completing practice at a selies of work station as well as participating in walking races and relay with other members of the group. Results : Compared with the control group, the treatment group had larger improvements in the motor function ability after 6 weeks treatment and Post-treatment test scores were more significant than the pre-treatment score. 1. Motor function were assessed by using MAS, sit to stand, walking and upper function were assessed pre-treatment versus post-treatment measures revealed a statically significant(p<.05). There were significant differences between the groups. Compared with the control group, the treatment group had larger improvements. 2. In the treatment groups, demonstrated difference in the electromyographic activation of biceps, triceps, quadriceps and tibialis anterior muscles on the paretic side in the response to the reaching arm movement and stepping motion in stance. The difference in muscle activation improvement were not statically significant. Conclusion : The results of this study showed that the PNF and Circuit group exercise intervention can improve motor functional ability. This study suggests that the PNF and Circuit exercise programs is appropriate for community-based group exercise principles. It leads to gain and maintain potential function for disabled persons after stroke in the community.
Background: Stroke patients have weak trunk muscle strength due to brain injury, so a single type of exercise is advised for restoring functionality. However, even after intervention, the problem still lies and it is suggested that another intervention method should be applied with exercise in order to deal with such problem. Objectives: To Investigate the effect of bridge exercise combined with functional electrical stimulation (FES) on trunk muscle activity and balance in stroke patients. Design: Randomized controlled trial. Methods: From July to August 2020, twenty stroke patients was sampled, ten patients who mediated bridge exercises combined with functional electrical stimulation were assigned to experiment group I, and ten patients who mediated general bridge exercises were assigned to experiment groupII. For the pre-test, using surface EMG were measured paralyzed rectus abdominis, erector spinae, transverse abdominis/internal oblique muscle activity, and using trunk impairment scale were measured balance. In order to find out immediate effect after intervention, post-test was measured immediately same way pre-test. Results: Change in balance didn't show significant difference within and between groups, but muscle activity of trunk was significant difference rectus abdominis and erector spinae within groups I (P<.01), also between groups was significant difference (P<.05). Conclusion: Bridge exercise combined with FES could improve trunk function more effectively than general bridge exercise due to physiological effect of functional electrical stimulation.

The purpose of this study is to investigation the effects of functional compression clothing on muscle function by comparing the iEMG response of muscle during exercise according to the wearing of taping applied functional clothing. Six men in their twenties in Chungcheongnam-do were selected for the study. Resistance exercise was performed by cross-distributing the conditions of wearing and not wearing functional clothing. Resistance exercises for iEMG measurements are biceps curl, wrist curl, reverse wrist curl, kickback and push-up. iEMG measurement muscles were the biceps brachii, triceps brachii, extensor carpi ulnaris, flexor carpi radialis. During biceps curl exercise, the iEMG of triceps brachii, biceps brachii wearing condition was lower than the non-wearing condition. During kickback exercise, the iEMG of triceps brachii, extensor carpi ulnaris wearing condition was lower than the non-wearing condition. During reverse wrist curl exercise, the iEMG of extensor carpi ulnaris wearing condition was lower than the non-wearing condition. During wrist curl exercise, the iEMG of flexsor biceps brachii, carpi radialis wearing condition was lower than the non-wearing condition. During push-up exercise, the iEMG of triceps flexsor biceps brachii, carpi radialis, brachii, biceps brachii non-wearing condition was lower than the wearing condition.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of combined exercise on the change of postural control, functional status in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee. Methods : The subjects were consisted of 24 women patients fifties and sixties with knee osteoarthritis. Each group had a exercise for 30 minutes per day and three times a week during 8 weeks period. Was used to measure muscular function(60, $180^{\circ}/sec$), postural control. functional capacity(15 M walking test, Rising form a chair test, stair climbing and descending test) and the functional state of a joint(WOMAC). Results: This study results in following 1. In case of muscular function have significantly increased in both groups. 2. There was no significant difference in the postural control of the bilateral between two groups. However, the postural control of a isokinetic exercise program group showed a significant difference in the bilateral side(overall, $M{\cdot}L$ stability index). Especially, the change of postural control in the isokinetic plus postural control exercise program group decreased more significantly in the bilateral(overall, $A{\cdot}P$ stability index). 3 It was significantly decreased in climbing and descending the stairs, and rising from the chair, although functional capacity decreased in lam walking in both groups. 4. The functional state of a joint(WOMAC) showed a significant decrease in both groups. Conclusion : In order to improve the functional status and postural control of patients with osteoarthritis of the knee, performing exercise programming of isokinetic plus balance will be more effective than the exercise program composed of only the isokinetic exercise program.
PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of exercise intensity and initial timing on functional recovery following sciatic nerve injury in rats. METHODS: Total of 80 Sprague-Dawley rats was used and randomly divided 6 groups. Under deep anesthesia, the sciatic nerve was nipped by adapted hemostatic tweezers for 30 seconds and the injured nerve was transparent under naked eyes. Acute exercise groups was applied treadmill after sciatic nerve crush injury during 5days with three type intensity. Late exercise groups was also applied treadmill during 5 days with three type intensity after 5 days break. Values of sciatic functional index were measured and analyzed in each group after exercise period. RESULTS: The sciatic functional index values between control groups 1, acute low-intensity group, acute middle-intensity group in acute phase showed statistical significant (p<.05). The sciatic functional index values between control groups 2, late low-intensity group, late middle-intensity group and late high-intensity in late phase showed statistical significant (p<.05). The comparison in acute and late phase, sciatic functional index values of each low-intensity group and each high-intensity group showed statistical significant (p<.05). CONCLUSION: Whether at acute or late phase, treadmill exercise as a therapy obtained beneficial effects of functional recovery and exercise training at low speed is more beneficial effects on the recovery of motor function in acute phase.
Purpose: In this study, the following experiment was conducted to see how to apply the sprinter pattern in proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) and functional weight bearing exercise affected balance capabilities and weight bearing among chronic stroke patients. Methods: The subjects included 27 subjects who had been diagnosed with hemiplegia due to stroke. A total of 12 sessions was held, 3 sessions a week over 4 weeks, were provided to the groups. Dynamic balance test by application of each exercise showed that there were significant differences after exercise and 2 weeks after exercise. Conclusion: To put the results together, the application of sprinter pattern and functional weight bearing exercise was effective in improving static and dynamic balance capabilities. Therefore, these exercises are helpful to improve balance in patients with stroke.
Community-based group exercise programs for people with chronic stroke are relatively uncommon in Korea. In addition, it is currently not known whether a community-based group exercise program is effective or not. The purpose of this study was to evaluate an 8 week community-based functional exercise program for its effects on balance performance and occupational performance in persons with chronic stroke. Twenty-five community-dwelling individuals with stroke participated in this program. Outcome of the program was assessed by the Berg Balance Scale and the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM). The functional exercise program lasted for eight weeks, with a 1-hour program twice per week and it consisted of mobility, stability, balance, functional strength, and gait training. The subjects were trained by one physical therapist but were under one-to-one supervision from students. The data of sixteen individuals who scored more than 24 on the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) were analyzed. There was a significant effect both in terms of the COPM Performance Score & the Satisfaction Score (p=.002) and with the Berg Balance Score (p=.001). It was found that a short-term community-based exercise program could improve both performance of activities and balance. Further, all subjects reported that they were satisfied with this program.
