As we continue to enjoy economic growth, there is an abundance of disposable income for consumer to spend. Consumers are spending more and more of these income in beauty service. However, relatively little is known about which factors influence consumer' behavior intentions in this area. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationships between the servicescape and relational benefits on customer value in beauty salon area. The Results are summarized as follows First, as the results of data analysis, among the composition factor of servicescape, spatiality, comfortableness, cleanness and convenience are shown to give positive effect on customer value. Second, among the composition factor of relational benefits, economic honest, functional benefit, private benefit, social benefit and psychological benefit are found to have a positive relationship with customer value.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of consumers' perceived brand benefits toward brand coffee shops on continuous purchase intentions as well as the mediating effect of brand trust. The survey was conducted on coffee consumers aged 20~40 years living in Seoul and who visited brand coffee shops exposed as product placement (PPL) in TV dramas. Out of 400 questionnaires distributed to consumers, 381 questionnaires (95.3%) were analyzed. Consumers were more interested in places (60.1%) than the products (39.9%) of the coffee shops exposed as PPL. Over half (54.6%) of the respondents showed a positive attitude towards coffee shop PPLs. All three brand benefits perceived by consumers (functional, symbolic, and empirical) had significant positive effects on brand trust and continuous purchase intention. In particular, symbolic benefit has the greatest impact on continuous purchase intention towards the brand. Brand trust had a mediating effect between perceived brand benefits and continuous purchase intentions. Therefore, it is necessary to focus on enhancing the perceived symbolic benefit of the brand to effectively maintain customer relationships. The results suggest that when planning positioning concepts, considering the importance of brand benefits is the best way to increase the competitiveness of coffee shop brands.
This study identified market segments by fashion leadership and appearance interest and compared each group in clothing benefits and makeup benefits pursued as well as makeup behaviors. The data were collected from 20~30 women during September, 2012, and a total of 302 surveys were analyzed. About 46.5% was in their twenties, and more than 39% was students and 35.4% was office workers. Findings were as follows. First, according to fashion leadership and appearance interest, three groups were identified, fashion leader group, appearance interest group, and uninterested group. Second, uninterested group showed the oldest average age among three groups. Fashion leader group showed the higher proportion of students and professional. Third, fashion leader group showed the highest mean score of self-esteem, while uninterested group showed the lowest level. Fourth, fashion leader group pursued attractive body image, social benefit, and individuality for clothing benefits, while uninterested group valued convenience. Fifth, with respect to makeup benefits pursued, fashion leader group presented a high level of esthetic, self-confidence, and functional pursuit, whereas uninterested group showed the opposite. Sixth, respondents tended to depend on internet most as cosmetic information sources, followed by family/friends, and magazine in order. Implications for cosmetic business were provided.
Prebiotics are defined as substrates that are selectively utilized by host microorganisms conferring various health benefits. Current prebiotic researches not only focus on non-digestible oligosaccharides, but also extend to polyphenols and peptides. However, the extended scope of prebiotic research pertains its original purposes: promotion of beneficial bacteria in host guts and production of valuable metabolites. Maintenance of optimal gut microflora plays a key role in host health care benefits including anti-cancer activity, immune response modulation, blood lipid level reduction, increased mineral absorption, and weight loss. With increasing probiotics markets, prebiotics have also received much attention in functional food markets. Hence, many global food companies tempt to develop new prebiotics applicable for preventing human diseases as well as modulating immune system. In this review, we discuss current status of prebiotics research, market progress, and future perspectives of prebiotics.

Transparent materials are necessary for most photoelectric devices, which allow the light generation from electric energy or vice versa. Metal oxides are usual materials for transparent conductors to have high optical transmittance with good electrical properties. Functional designs may apply in various applications, including solar cells, photodetectors, and transparent heaters. Nanoscale structures are effective to drive the incident light into light-absorbing semiconductor layer to improve solar cell performances. Recently, the new metal oxide materials have inaugurated functional device applications. Nickel oxide (NiO) is the strong p-type metal oxide and has been applied for all transparent metal oxide photodetector by combining with n-type ZnO. The abrupt p-NiO/n-ZnO heterojunction device has a high transmittance of 90% for visible light but absorbs almost entire UV wavelength light to show the record fastest photoresponse time of 24 ms. For other applications, NiO has been applied for solar cells and transparent heaters to induce the enhanced performances due to its optical and electrical benefits. We discuss the high possibility of metal oxides for current and future transparent electronic applications.
Dietary supplements are used by more than one-half of the adult US population. By contrast, herbal products in Germany are carefully regulated by the same standards as drugs, and efforts are under way to standardize their regulation in the entire European Union. Most herbal users do not inform their physicians that they are taking these supplements, and most physicians do not inquire. Although some herbal products have clinically proven benefits, it is increasingly apparent that many contain potentially toxic substances, particularly in relation to interactions with drugs. Hence, it is essential that practicing physicians develop a working knowledge of herbals-specifically, about claims for their usage and potential or proven efficacies and toxicities-and that they incorporate such knowledge into the evaluation and management of their patients. By contrast, functional foods-integral components of the diet that are understood to contribute added health benefits-are the subject of intense and widespread research in food and nutritional science. Examples include many polyphenolic substances, carotenoids, soy isoflavones, fish oils, and components of nuts that possess antioxidant and other properties that decrease the risk of vascular diseases and cancer. Practicing physicians are advised to stay abreast of these emerging findings in order to best advise their patients on the value of health-promoting diets in disease prevention.

The marine ecosystem represents a vast and dynamic array of bio-resources attributed with its huge diversity and considered as potential untapped reservoirs for the development of functional foods for future health markets. Basically, marine microorganisms, sponges, algae, invertebrates such as crustaceans and mollusks along with marine fish species can be considered as marine bio-resources, which can be utilized to obtain different health benefits for humans, directly or after processing. Most of the bio-molecular components, such as lipids and proteins from these marine bio-resources, which can be extracted in large scale using the modern and advanced biotechnological approaches, are suitable drug candidates for the pharmaceutical industry as well as functional food ingredients for the food industry. Moreover, the furtherance of high throughput molecular biological techniques has already been incorporated with identification, mining and extraction of molecular components from marine bio-resources. In this review, potential marine bio-resources with respect to their extractable bio-molecules were described in details, while explaining the present and prospective methods of identification and extraction, which are integrated with advanced techniques in modern biotechnology. In addition, this provides an overview of future trends in marine biotechnology.
The intron has been a big biological mystery since it was first discovered in several aspects. First, all of the completely sequenced eukaryotes harbor introns in the genomic structure, whereas no prokaryotes identified so far carry introns. Second, the amount of total introns varies in different species. Third, the length and number of introns vary in different genes, even within the same species genome. Fourth, all introns are copied into RNAs by transcription and DNAs by replication processes, but intron sequences do not participate in protein-coding sequences. The existence of introns in the genome should be a burden to some cells, because cells have to consume a great deal of energy to copy and excise them exactly at the correct positions with the help of complicated spliceosomal machineries. The existence throughout the long evolutionary history is explained, only if selective advantages of carrying introns are assumed to be given to cells to overcome the negative effect of introns. In that regard, we summarize previous research about the functional roles or benefits of introns. Additionally, several other studies strongly suggesting that introns should not be junk will be introduced.
