Building integrated photovoltaic(BIPV) system operates as a multi-functional building construction material. They not only produce electricity, but also are building integral components such as facade, roof, window and shading device. As PV modules function like building envelope in BIPV, combined thermal and PV performance should be simultaneously evaluated. This study is to establish basic Information for designing effective BIPV by discovering relations between temperature and generation capability through experiment when the PV module is used as roof material for houses. To do so, we established 3kW full scale mock-up model with real size house and attached an PV array by cutting in half. This is to assess temperature influence depending on whether there is a ventilation on the rear side of PV module or not.
This paper describes current controlled PWM technique of IPM synchronous motors for a wide variety of speed control applications. The IPM synchronous motors have a saliency, in which the q-axis inductance is larger than the d-axis inductance. As a consequence, there exists a reluctance torque component Thus when this component is added to the torque component produced by the stator currents and the air-gap flux, IPM motor drives are readily applicable where full torque Is required up to full or base speed. They are however limited in their ability to operate in the power limited regime where the available torque is reduced as the speed is increased above its base value. This paper reviews the operation of the IPMSM drives when they are constrained to be within the permissible envelope of maximum inverter voltage and current to produce the rated power and to provide this with the highest attainable rotor speed. The wide variety of speed control strategy is analyzed and the performance is investigated by the computer simulation using actual parameters of a drive system. Simulation results are given and discussed.
Wind tunnel pressure measurements and numerical simulations based on the Reynolds Stress Model (RSM) are compared with full and model scale data in the flow area of impingement, separation and wake for $60^{\circ}$ and $90^{\circ}$ wind azimuth angles. The phase averaged fluctuating pressures simulated by the RSM model are combined with modelling of the small scale, random pressure field to produce the total, instantaneous pressures. Time averaged, rsm and peak pressure coefficients are consequently calculated. This numerical approach predicts slightly better the pressure field on the roof of the TTU (Texas Tech University) building when compared to the wind tunnel experimental results. However, it shows a deviation from both experimental data sets in the impingement and wake regions. The limitations of the RSM model in resolving the intermittent flow field associated with the corner vortex formation are discussed. Also, correlations between the largest roof suctions and the corner vortex "switching phenomena" are observed. It is inferred that the intermittency and short duration of this vortex switching might be related to both the wind tunnel and numerical simulation under-prediction of the peak roof suctions for oblique wind directions.

A full rig combustor test and altitude ignition test were carried out for radial-annular combustor of micro turbojet engine. 11.2% total pressure loss and 99.85% of combustion efficiency were measured at design point of engine under sea level standard condition and $2{\sim}6$ of air excess ratio for ignition envelope was achieved on engine starting regime. Finally, A 30,000 ft high altitude ignition test was also performed and finally we found out that the developed radial-annular combustor is appropriate to micro turbojet engine.
A field study of wind-induced internal pressures in a flexible and porous industrial warehouse with a single dominant opening, of various sizes for a range of moderate wind speeds and directions, is reported in this paper. Comparatively weak resonance of internal pressure for oblique windward opening situations, and hardly discernible at other wind directions, is attributed to the inherent leakage and flexibility in the envelope of the building in addition to the moderate wind speeds encountered during the tests. The measured internal pressures agree well with the theoretical predictions obtained by numerically simulating the analytical model of internal pressure for a porous and flexible building with a dominant opening. Ratios of the RMS and peak internal to opening external pressures obtained in the study are presented in a non-dimensional format along with other published full scale measurements and compared with the non-dimensional design equation proposed in recent literature.

The major drawback in the Code Excited Linear Prediction type vocoders is their large computational requirements. In this paper, a simple method is proposed to reduce the pitch searching time in the pitch filter almost without degradation of quality. On the basis of the observational regularity of the correlation function of speech, only the limited numbers of pitch lags are considered to be an optimum pitch. This is done by skipping the negative envelope side of the correlation function and limiting the maximum number of lags to be considered preliminarily. By doing so, we can reduce the computational time of pitch searching more than 51% with negligible quality degradation. In addition to that, by combining that method with the conventional delta search technique, we can reduce the computational time requirements more than 60% without serious lowering the speech quality in segmental SNR measure compared to the conventional full search method.
PbS QDs in glasses have attracted much attention due to the potentials for near-infrared applications. Growth of PbS QDs in the glass is discussed and size of PbS QDs formed in the glass can be tuned by varying the thermal treatment conditions. Hyperbolic-band approximation and four-band envelope function provide good simulation of the exciton energies of PbS QDs. Absorption and photoluminescence of PbS QDs was tuned into $1{\sim}2{\mu}m$ wave-length regime with large full width at half maximum photoluminescence intensity (>160 nm). Photoluminescence intensity of PbS QDs in the glasses was closely related to size of quantum dots, temperature, excitation and defects. Decrease in temperature shifted the photoluminescence bands to shorter wavelength and switched the photoluminescence from darkened state and brightened state.
In this paper we studied the reduced subjective timbre space of time-varying tones as well as steady state tones. 45 modified test tones were constructed from the original violin tone in consideration of 4 physical factors: spectrum envelope, inharmonicity, time-varying spectrum and time reversal. The semantic differential (SD) method was used in the listening test. According to the factor analysis, the adjectives can be factorized into 4 groups. The first factor is characterized by the adjectives, 'free', 'broad', 'deep', 'rich', 'strong' and 'reverberant', the second by 'tenor', 'clear', 'bright', 'light' and 'sharp', the third by 'easy', 'smooth', and 'solid', the fourth by 'warm' and 'full'. The first factor, 'richness', seems to be dependent upon the time-varying characteristic of a tone. The second factor, 'sharpness', is shown to play an important role in a time-varying tone as well as in a steady state tone.

An extensive database has been constructed of reinforced concrete (RC) beam-column connection tests subjected to cyclic lateral loading. All cases within the database experienced joint shear failure, either in conjunction with or without yielding of longitudinal beam reinforcement. Using the experimental database, envelope curves of joint shear stress vs. joint shear strain behavior have been created by connecting key points such as cracking, yielding, and peak loading. Various prediction approaches for RC joint shear behavior are discussed using the constructed experimental database. RC joint shear strength and deformation models are first presented using the database in conjunction with a Bayesian parameter estimation method, and then a complete model applicable to the full range of RC joint shear behavior is suggested. An RC joint shear prediction model following a U.S. standard is next summarized and evaluated. Finally, a particular joint shear prediction model using basic joint shear resistance mechanisms is described and for the first time critically assessed.
Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) envelope (E) protein holds great promise for use in the development of a recombinant vaccine. Purified recombinant E (rE) protein may be useful for numerous clinical applications; however, there are limitations in using the Escherichia coli expression system for producing high-quality rE protein. Therefore, in this study, the yeast expression system was used to generate the rE protein. For protein production using the yeast system, the full-length JEV E gene was cloned into Pichia pastoris. SDS-PAGE and immunoblotting analysis demonstrated that the rE protein had a molecular mass of 58 kDa and was glycosylated. The predicted size of the mature unmodified E protein is 53 kDa, suggesting that post-translational modifications resulted in the higher molecular mass. The rE protein was purified to greater than 95% purity using combined ammonium sulfate precipitation and a SP-Sepharose Fast Flow column. This purified rE protein was evaluated for immunogenicity and protective efficacy in mice. The survival rates of mice immunized with the rE protein were significantly increased over that of Hyphantria cunea nuclear polyhedrosis virus E protein (HcE). Our results indicate that the rE protein expressed in the P. pastoris expression system holds great promise for use in the development of a subunit vaccine against JEV.
