This study investigated the effect of learning achievements and cognitive load according to different types of presenting learning materials and epistemological beliefs (EB). Learning achievements in this study were composed by retention and transfer of ill-structured problem. A total of 80 college students participated in the study. Prior to the learning, students were guided to fill out a questionnaire regarding epistemological beliefs and a prior knowledge test. The students of each group studied with a different type of reading material: full text (FT), full text including key questions (KeyFT) and full text including a concept map (CmFT). After a session of study was finished, they were asked to complete the posttest: retention and transfer. The results showed that there was a significant difference in transfer achievements. CmFT outperformed higher scores than the other types. There was no significant difference in retention among the groups. It is strongly believed that the types of presenting learning materials may have affected the understanding of ill-structured problem solving skills. Students with sophisticated EB showed higher achievements on retention and transfer than naive-EB and mixed-EB. Even though the data showed decrease of the cognitive load on the type of materials and EB, there were no significant differences on the cognitive load. We should consider a positive effect of types of presenting learning materials and EB enhancing capabilities of solving ill-structured problems in real life.

As the increase of the fuel oil price, the demand for saving of the ship running cost is growing. To meet the needs of the shipowners, the method for low load operation has been developed by engine licenser. As one of low load operation, the turbocharger cut-out system can be utilized flexibly both full and part load operation. It can be possible to optimize fuel consumption at both full and part load operation. Tests by engine licenser with 12K98MC engine have proven that the fuel oil consumption can be reduced approximately 5%. In this paper we will study the application of main engine turbocharger cut-out system onboard a vessel. One of four turbochargers with MAN Diesel & Turbo 12K98MC-C and 12K98ME-C engine is cut out with swing gate valve. The fuel oil consumption is measured during sea trial and engine shop test.

In this paper, the load test of full-scale precast concrete arch bridges considering reinforced joint and backfill was conducted. It is an improved method that the reinforced joint enhanced the structural performance of conventional masonry arch system which was proposed by previous researchers. The models of full-scale test are $10m(span){\times}3m$ (rise) and $10m(span){\times}2m$ (rise), which are 2 meters in width. The critical load position was shown at a third-span from the results of the pre-analysis. Based on the this results, the positions of load, measuring items and points were determined in experiments. As a result, the maximum load capacity of the specimen $10m{\times}2m$, a relatively small rise to span ratio (compared to the specimen $10m{\times}3m$), was higher than the specimen $10m{\times}3m$. It was evaluated that all the specimens have sufficient structural performance on the design load.

This paper presents the performance of a Phase Shift Full Bridge (PSFB) converter with inductive load and a new current control scheme to improve dynamic response of output current with various inductive loads. Enhanced dynamic model is used which includes leakage inductance and inductive load. Effect of changing of inductive load was analyzed in detail. Proposed current control scheme is designed based on phase margin specifications. As a result, the proposed current control scheme helps to improve the dynamic response in comparison with the existing current control scheme. The performance of the designed controller is verified by a 500 A PSFB converter. The results will be utilized for high current applications with high inductive load such as superconducting devices.
The paper describes an automatic frequency control current-fed inverter for forging applications. The IGBT in series with diodes as its switching devices in the inverter circuit which is of full-bridge type. The operating frequency is automatically tracked to maintain a small constant leading phase angle when load parameters change. The load voltage is controlled to protect the switches. The output power can be adjusted by varying the input current from phase controlled rectifiers which is a part of current source. The system has been operated at 15-17 kHz. The output power transferred to the load is 1,595 watts. It can heat the steel work pieces with 15 mm diameter and 120 mm long from room temperature to approximately 1100 $^{\circ}C$ within 20 seconds with 0.97 leading power factor on the input side.

The full-bridge series resonant converter is analyzed to limit the maximum values of the current and the voltage across resonant capacitor in the case of load short. If the converter is operated in the optimal region derived in this paper, the maximum value of short-circuit current will be smaller or equal to that of the current in steady operation. Since the additional facilities for the protection against load short do not need, converters have advantages in weight, size, and cost.

Six full-scale prestressed concrete (PC) I-beams with steel fibers were tested to failure in this work. Beams were cast without any traditional transverse steel reinforcement. The main objective of the study was to determine the effects of two variables-the shear-span-to-depth ratio and steel fiber dosage, on the web-shear and flexural-shear modes of beam failure. The beams were subjected to concentrated vertical loads up to their maximum shear or moment capacity using four hydraulic actuators in load and displacement control mode. During the load tests, vertical deflections and displacements at several critical points on the web in the end zone of the beams were measured. From the load tests, it was observed that the shear capacities of the beams increased significantly due to the addition of steel fibers in concrete. Complete replacement of traditional shear reinforcement with steel fibers also increased the ductility and energy dissipation capacity of the PC I-beams.
In this paper, a single current sensor technique (SCST) is proposed for single-phase full-bridge inverters. The proposed SCST measures the currents of multiple branches at the same time, and reconstructs the average inductor, capacitor, and load current in a single switching cycle. Since all of the branches' current in the LC filter and the load are obtained using the SCST, both the inductor and the capacitor current feedback schemes can be selectively applied while taking advantages of each other. This paper also analyzes both of the current feedback schemes from the view point of the closed-loop output impedance. The proposed SCST and the analysis in this paper are verified through experiments on a 3kVA single-phase uninterruptible power supply (UPS).
For the high power demand and N+1 redundancy, this paper presents the digital load share (LS) controller design and the implementation of paralleled phase-shifted full-bridge converters (PSFBC) used in distributed power systems. By adopting the digital control strategy, separately used ICs for PSFBC and LS control functions in analog systems can be merged into a cost-effective digital controller. To compensate and stabilize both PSFBC and LS loops with the direct digital design approaches, small-signal model of the system is derived in discrete-time domain. The steady-state and dynamic load sharing performances are also investigated. Experimental results from two 1.2 kW paralleled PSFBC modules are shown to verify the proposed work.

A novel full-bridge converter with a new energy-recovery driver implemented a regenerative transformer is proposed to improve the efficiency for wide input voltage range and load variation. The main switches achieve ZVS independent of the load current condition. During the free wheeling period, conduction loss is minimized by recovering the circulating energy to the source. The principle of operation, design consideration and experimental result, including efficiency, are presented in the case of large variation of the input voltage or load. A proposed 1kW converter prototype is compared with a PS-FB converter.
