Ultrasonic decontamination of the type 304 stainless steel specimen loosely contaminated with $Eu_2O_3$ powders was investigated. Decontamination factors (DFs) by the three kinds of ultrasonic media such as water, pure PFC (Pefluorocarbon, $C_7F_{16}$) and a mixed solution of $99.9\;vol\%\;PFC\;and\;0.1\;vol\%$ anionic surfactant were determined. The determined DF values were 20, 50 and 200, respectively. This significant difference in the decontamination factors for the different decontamination solution was well explained by the surface tension of the media as well as the interaction between the positively charged surface of $Eu_2O_3$ powders and the anionic surfactant. Ultrasonic decontamination behavior of the loosely contaminated metal specimens such as plate, pipe, welding specimen and crevice specimen in the mixed solution of PFC and anionic surfactant was also investigated. The contaminants were completely removed for the tested specimens except for the longest specimen. For 6-cm long pipe specimen, however, $98.5\%$ of the contaminants were removed.

In order to predict the dynamic behaviors of uranium and cobalt in a fixed bed at various influent pH values of liquid waste, the adsorption system is regarded as a multi-component adsorption between each ionic species in the solution. Langmuir isotherm parameters of each species were extracted by incorporating equilibrium data with the solution chemistry of the uranium and cobalt using IAST. Prediction results were in good agreement with the experimental data, except for a high concentration and pH. Although there was some limitations in predicting the cobalt adsorption, this method may be useful in analyzing a complex adsorption system where various kinds of ionic species exist in a solution.

IAEA, FT-04-020, and ANS 16.1, standard leaching test methods, were evaluated comparatively with their test results. Leaching index of $^{60}$ Co and $^{137}$ Cs by ANS 16.1 method for waste forms of paraffin and cement were above 6.0. Their leaching behavior were depending on the type of matrix and leachant. Leachability of $^{60}$ Co for cement waste form was higher in simulated seawater than do-mineralized water, and was higher in de-mineralized water for paraffin waste form. leachability of $^{60}$ Co was contrary to $^{137}$ Cs. Cumulative fraction leached of $^{60}$ Co was higher in order or IAEA > ANS > FT in a cement waste form.
Nickel ferrite $(Ni_{0.75}Fe_{2.25}O_4$ was synthesized by co-precipitation method in order to investigate its behavior under conditions of the reactor coolant system in pressurized light water nuclear power plants. Ammonia or potassium carbonate was used as a solution pH control agent, and aqueous ammonia or potassium carbonate solution or secondary distilled water was used as a co-precipitate washing agent. The effects of the pH control agent and the co-precipitate washing agent on the production yield on the basis of the Ni/Fe molar ratio and the particle characteristics of final products were investigated by XRD, SEM, EDX and XPS. The production yield was almost congruent with that of the initial aqueous mixture in case of using potassium carbonate as a pH control agent, while in case of using ammonia, it was quite changed. The difference seemed to be due to the effects of $Ni^{2+}{\leftarrow}NH_3$complexation in the aqueous solution and of the pH of co-precipitate washing agent.
'4 NiAl coating process was applied on 316 stainless steel to retard the corrosion of the wet- seal area of separator for the molten carbonate fuel cell. The Nit11 phasc on the stainless steel substrate could be formed by pre-coating with Ni, plated with A1 and ther, heat treated at $800^{\circ}C$ for 3 hr in $H_2/N_2$ gas atmosphere. The corrosion protection behavior of YiAl coating layer was stuilied under immersion condition in molten cxhonate salt($62^{m}/_{o}Li_2CO_3-38^{m}/_{o}/K_{2}CO_{3}$) at $650^{\circ}C$. The NiAl coating layer ticposited on the AiSi 316 stainless steel had high corrosion resistance in molten carbor. dte salt. The corrosion resistance of XiAl (~~jpoared to be associated with the .A1 oxide formed on the surface of coating layer.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the overall spray behavior characteristics for various injection conditions in a gasoline direct injection(GDI) injector with multi-hole. The spray characteristics, such as the spray penetration, the spray angle, and the injection quantity, were studied through the change of the injection pressure, the ambient pressure, and the energizing duration in a high-pressure chamber with a constant volume. The n-heptane with 99.5% purity was used as the test fuel. In a constant volume chamber, the injected spray was visualized by the spray visualization system, which consisted of the high-speed camera, the metal-halide lamp, the injector control device, and the image analysis system with the image processing program. It was revealed that the injection quantity was mainly affected by the difference between the injection pressure and the ambient pressure. For low injection pressure conditions, the injection quantity was decreased by the increase of the ambient pressure, while it nearly maintained regardless of the ambient pressure at high injection pressure. According to the increase of the ambient pressure in the constant volume chamber, the spray development became slow, consequently, the spray tip penetration decreased, and the spray area increased. In additions, the circular cone area decreased, and the vortex area increased.
Biomass and coal are great potential energy sources for gasification process. These solids can be gasified to produce syngas and bio-oil which can be upgraded further to transportation fuel. Two biomass and three coals have been gasified with steam in a thermobalance reactor under atmospheric pressure in order to evaluate their kinetic rate information The effects of gasification temperature ($600{\sim}850^{\circ}C$) and partial pressure of steam (30~90 kPa) on the gasification rate have been investigated. The three different types of gas-solids reaction models have been applied to the experimental data to compare their predictions of reaction behavior. The modified volumetric reaction model predicts the conversion data well, thus that model was used to evaluate kinetic parameters in this study. The gasification reactivity of five solids has been compared. The obtained activation energy of coal and biomass gasification were well in the reasonable range. The expression of apparent reaction rates for steam gasification of five solids have been proposed as basic information for the design of coal gasification processes.
Recently, 1-D model-based engine development using virtual engine system is getting more attention than experimental-based engine development due to the advantages in time and cost. Injection rate profile is the one of the main parameters that determine the start and end of combustion. Therefore, it is essential to set up a sophisticated model to accurately predict the injection rate as starting point of virtual engine system. In this research, procedure of 1-D model setup based on AMESim is introduced to predict the dynamic behavior and injection rate of diesel injector. As a first step, detailed 3D cross-sectional drawing of the injector was achieved, which can be done with help of precision measurement system. Then an approximate AMESim model was provided based on the 3D drawing, which is composed of three part such as solenoid part, control chamber part and needle and nozzle orifice part. However, validation results in terms of total injection quantity showed some errors over the acceptable level. Therefore, experimental work including needle movement visualization, solenoid part analysis and flow characteristics of injector part was performed together to provide more accuracy of 1-D model. Finally, 1-D model with the accuracy of less than 10% of error compared with experimental result in terms of injection quantity and injection rate shape under normal temperature and single injection condition was established. Further work considering fuel temperature and multiple injection will be performed.
Characterization tests (load vs. displacement curve) are conducted for the springs of Zirconium alloy spacer grids for an advanced LWR fuel assembly. Twofold testing is employed: strap-based and assembly-based tests. The assembly-based test satisfies the in situ boundary conditions of the spring within the grid assembly. The aim of the characterization test via the aforementioned two methods is to establish an appropriate assembly-based test method that fulfills the actual boundary conditions. A characterization test under the spacer grid assembly boundary condition is also conducted to investigate the actual behavior of the spring in the core. The stiffness of the characteristic curve is smaller than that of the strap-wised boundary condition. This phenomenon may cause the strap slit condition. A spacer grid consists of horizontal and vertical straps. The strap slit positions are differentiated from each other. They affords examination of the variation of the external load distribution in the grid spring. Localized legions of high stress and their values are analyzed, as they may be affected by the spring shape. Through a comparison of the results of the test and FE analysis, it is concluded that the present assembly-based analysis model and procedure are reasonably well conducted and can be used for spring characterization in the core. Guidelines for improving the mechanical integrity of the spring are also discussed.
The combined effects of reactivity coefficients, along with other core nuclear characteristics, determine reactor core behavior in normal operation and accident conditions. The Power Coefficient of Reactivity (PCR) is an aggregate indicator representing the change in reactor core reactivity per unit change in reactor power. It is an integral quantity which captures the contributions of the fuel temperature, coolant void, and coolant temperature reactivity feedbacks. All nuclear reactor designs provide a balance between their inherent nuclear characteristics and the engineered reactivity control features, to ensure that changes in reactivity under all operating conditions are maintained within a safe range. The $CANDU^{(R)}$ reactor design takes advantage of its inherent nuclear characteristics, namely a small magnitude of reactivity coefficients, minimal excess reactivity, and very long prompt neutron lifetime, to mitigate the demand on the engineered systems for controlling reactivity and responding to accidents. In particular, CANDU reactors have always taken advantage of the small value of the PCR associated with their design characteristics, such that the overall design and safety characteristics of the reactor are not sensitive to the value of the PCR. For other reactor design concepts a PCR which is both large and negative is an important aspect in the design of their engineered systems for controlling reactivity. It will be demonstrated that during Loss of Regulation Control (LORC) and Large Break Loss of Coolant Accident (LBLOCA) events, the impact of variations in power coefficient, including a hypothesized larger than estimated PCR, has no safety-significance for CANDU reactor design. Since the CANDU 6 PCR is small, variations in the range of values for PCR on the performance or safety of the reactor are not significant.
