Japan is leading standards for the hydrogen fuel quality on the PEMFC(Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell) vehicle at ISO/TC197/WG12. However, it has many problems to solve the standard of measurement and the test method. because the standard of measurement which was proposed in Japan is too high to reach the technique for many countries. it might not control standards for the hydrogen fuel quality on the PEMFC vehicle in Korea. So we need to develop the study of standards and the technique of measurement continuously for the International Standards Meeting.

Recently, the government is actively promoting the RFS(Renewable Fuel Standards) and RPS(Renewable Portfolio Standards). Therefore, the importance of renewable energy fuel is being highlighted more than ever. Now is the time required active research in Korea. Since power bio-fuel oil demonstration project is underway dissemination to meet RPS quota. In this study, we investigated emission performance to make the performance standard draft of bio-fuel oil. In addition, the quality properties of the fuel oil and bio-oil, and after combustion in industrial boilers and compared the amount of exhaust gas. It was reduced emissions of bio-oil in industrial boilers due to bio-fuel properties as compare with fuel oil.
The contaminated engine oil by fuel can intimidate driver safety due to vehicle problems such as engine abrasion, fire and sudden unintended acceleration. In this study, we investigate various functional properties of the engine oil contaminated with fuel. The test results indicated that the engine oil contaminated with fuel had relatively low values of the flash point, pour point, density, kinematic viscosity and cold cranking simulator. Furthermore, a four ball test suggested that the contaminated engine oil increased wear scar due to the poor lubricity. Moreover, SIMDIST (simulated distillation) using ASTM D2887 was applied to analyze fuel characteristics in an engine oil. The SIMDIST analysis result showed a lower carbon number, and the fuel was detected at an earlier retention time than that of using engine oil in chromatogram. Also, it is possible to quantitatively analyze for fuel contents in the engine oil. The SIMDIST method for the diagnosis of oil conditions can be used whether the fuel was involved or not, instead of analyzing other physical properties that require various analytical instruments, large volumes of oil samples, and long analysis time.

The purpose of this study was to develop a $CO_2$ emission factor for refuse plastic fuel (RPF) combustion facilities, and calculate the $CO_2$ emissions from these facilities. The $CO_2$ reduction from using these facilities was analyzed by comparing $CO_2$ emission to facilities using fossil fuels. The average $CO_2$ emission factor from RPF combustion facilities was 59.7 Mg $CO_2$/TJ. In addition, fossil fuel and RPF use were compared using net calorific value (NCV). Domestic RPF consumption in 2011 was 240,000 Mg/yr, which was compared to fossil fuels using NCV. B-C oil use, which has the same NCV, was equal to RPF use. In contrast, bituminous and anthracite were estimated at 369,231 Mg/yr and 355,556 Mg/yr, respectively. In addition, the reduction in $CO_2$ emissions due to the alternative fuel was analyzed. $CO_2$ emissions were reduced by more than 350 Mg $CO_2$/yr compared to bituminous and anthracite. We confirmed that using RPF, an alternative fuel, can reduce $CO_2$ emissions.
The significance of soil environment is gradually increased due to the soil and underwater contamination caused by petroleum leak accidents. It requires a high cost and long period for the purification of soil compared with other environmental matrix such as water and air. For this reason, it has been embroiled in a legal conflict to find the pollution source and charge of cleanup. In this study, we analyzed the physical properties and typical additives of jet fuel to search a method that can distinguish kerosene and jet fuel contamination. In particular, the chemical marker in kerosene was visualized by the developer and the additives in jet fuel, such as antioxidant and metal deactivator were detected by GC-MS. This study could be used to judge petroleum source at soil contaminant accident sites.

This study analyzes the fuel conditions and environmental effects of converting heating in rural villages that rely on fossil fuels into wood fuel. In particular, we tried to derive the most important considerations when using wooden chips as fuel in aging agricultural villages where various variables such as weather, facility characteristics, fuel quality, and maintenance capabilities work. Above all, an experiment was conducted by comparing it with oak trees to determine whether Italian poplar, a representative attribute water created to supply fuel wood in Korea, is suitable for heating fuel. Through experiments, 1) Even though the supply of poplar wood chips during 10 hours of operation was 60.74 kg less than that of hardwood chips, the production of hot water was 140 kWh higher. 2) The higher the exhaust gas temperature, the proportional (increase) oxygen concentration and inversely (decrease) PM and CO emissions. 3) Poplar has twice as much ash content as hardwood and three times more fine dust has been detected, but it meets all the standards for wood quality at the Korea Forest Science Institute. 4) Under the condition that there is a difference in water content (7.7%), hardwood cost 1.13 times more wood chips per 1 MWh than poplar, and even if the water content is corrected equally, hardwood cost 1.05 times more per 1 MWh than poplar. 5) In conclusion, it was proved that the fuel possibility, economic possibility, and environmental possibility of poplar wood chips are sufficient.
In the iron ore sinter process, temperature distribution pattern in sintering bed is related with productivity and quality of sintered ore. Evenly heat distribution make the uniform quality of sintered ore but in normal operating condition, upper part of bed has lack of heat and scarce quality of sintered ore, thus yeild rate is decreased and productivity is diminished. Therefore, using the additional fuel for increasing quality and flue gas recirculation for increasing productivity are considered and effect of both processes are discussed.
In general, sulfur containing odorants are added to fuel gases, such as LPG, and city gas, to prevent gas poisoning, ignition, explosion, or other accident caused by fuel gases, and to enable immediate and easy detection of fuel-gas leakage by emitting an offensive smell. In this study, sulfur free odorant for low sulfur fuel and prevention of metal corrosion were developed to replace current sulfur containing odorant for gas fuel. They were selected from 12 odorant containing non-sulfur organic compounds and evaluated by odor olfactory method (odor quality, odor intensity). Finally, selected mixture odorants were methyl isovalerate, methyl acrylate, 2-ethyl-3-methyl pyrazine with blending ratio of 50% : 40% : 10%. Final Sulfur free odorant was added 40 wt ppm in LPG fuels and evaluated fuel quality characteristics, metal corrosion test and long term stability of LPG fuel. It were limit in current LPG fuel standard in fuel quality characteristics. Final Sulfur free odorant also had no influence on metal corrosion and long term stability test with 60 days by adding in LPG fuels. Finally, they were shown to be warning agent candidates to reduce sulfur content and metal corrosion for LPG fuel.

Recently, due to the use of fossil fuels for electric power production, carbon emissions increased excessively. Thereby, in order to replace fossil fuels, many studies about fossil fuels such as solar and fuel cell energy source are progressing. Fuel cell system has high energy conversion efficiency. Also, fuel cell system is environmentally friendly system because the carbon emission is almost not occur. Therefore, the fuel cell system is considered as the core technology of in the fields of the future energy and environmental. Fuel cell system has an effect on distribution power system because another power source of other than large power plants. So, fuel cell system can be degradation reason of power quality in the power system. In this paper, we constructed the system for an assessment on harmonics effect. The system is composed with power source, harmonics generation and linear load, fuel cell system. we also performed assessment on harmonics effect in customer and the distributed power system during grid connection of residential fuel cell system. An assessment cases are divided into three. A Case 1 is state that residential load and fuel system are connected to grid, Case 2 is state that residential load and harmonics load are connected to grid, and Case 3 is state that all loads are connected to grid. As a output of fuel cell system is increase, analysis results based on assessment system showed that power quality became more aggravation as effect of harmonics.

Aircraft fuel indicator is a device to indicate the amount of fuel remained during flight, where accurate and consistent operation of the indicator should be maintained. Previously the Korean Utility Helicopter fuel indicator sporadically displayed abnormal sign by "8888" during flight, jeopardizing flight safety. Inappropriate EMI/EMC performance was detected during trouble shooting process. The cause of the abnormal display was found to be resulted from unstable power induced by electro-magnetic disturbance and CAN communication error. The aircraft fuel indicator design was improved and the design compatibility was verified to avoid abnormal display.
