This study researched differences in friendship among children of the same and/or opposite sex and their gender-role identities. Friendship and gender-role identities among 423 children in the 5th and 6th grades were examined. Data was analyzed by MANOVA and ANOVA. Findings were : (1) there were some differences between boys and girls in rank order of the distribution of gender-role identity types : androgynous type was most common in girls; undifferentiated was most common among boys. (2) Results of friendship based on sex and gender-role identity showed that boys and girls with androgynous gender-roles were friendly with both boys and girls. Among boys, masculine types were particularly friendly with boys; among girls, masculine types were particularly friendly with girls.
In this study of the relationships between quality of children's friendships, their self-perception and school adjustment, 434 4th, 5th, and 6th graders replied to a series of questionnaires. Girls reported higher levels of quality of friendship in the areas of emotional security, help, intimacy, and acknowledgement than boys. Boys showed higher levels of self-perception in cognitive competence, athletic ability and social acceptance than girls. Positive friendship quality and friendship satisfaction were related to self-perception and school adjustment. Variables that influenced school adjustment were social behavior, cognitive competence, global self-worth, pleasure in companionship, and athletic ability. For boys, variables which influenced school adjustment were social behavior, cognitive competence, pleasure in companionship, and global self-worth. For girls, the variables were global self-worth, cognitive competence, trust, social behavior, and athletic ability.
The purpose of this study was first to investigate the positive-and the negative function of friendship perceived by adolescents second to examine the difference of these two function s by adolescents' gender and grade and third to evaluate adolescents' adjustment to school according to the positive-and the negative function of friendship. For these purposes and empirical survey data was gathered from 988 junior higher- and high school students in Inchon city. Three factors of the positive function and three other factors of the negative function of friendship were constructed as results of factor analyses. There six factors were correlated one another and were significantly different by adolescents' gender and grade. Lastly adolescents' adjustment to school was significantly different by the positive function of friendship.
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between mind understanding, popularity, and friendship of preschool children. A total 1444-and 5-year old children participated in this study. The children were assessed on false belief, emotion understanding, language skill, and popularity in peer groups. Their teachers rated the children's friendship qualities. Significant differences in mind understanding based on social status and friendship status were found. Popularity, number of mutual friend, PPVT, and positive interaction between friends were found to be significant predictors of children's mind understanding.
The purpose of this study was to investigate similarities in behavioral characteristics between children and their friends. Aggression and withdrawal behaviors, in conjunction with the effects of friendship quality and characteristics on peer rejection were analyzed. The participants were 414 fifth and sixth grade primary school children recruited from public schools in Bucheon city. Firstly, the peer nomination index was used to assess aggression, withdrawal, and peer rejection. Secondly, children reported on the quality of their friendships using the Friendship Quality Scale. The results indicates similarities in aggression and withdrawal between children and friends. Friends' aggression and withdrawal characteristics predicted children's peer rejection, which was more pronounced with higher friendship quality.
The purpose of the present study was to investigate developmental trends and relationships between justice and friendship. Four different interviews were administered individually to fifty 4-to 8-year old children. In the Justice domain, the interviews consisted of open-ended questions devised to investigate the children's understanding of justice and a hypothetical story dilemma based on Damon(1977). In the friendship domain, the interviews consisted of open-ended questions based on Bigelow(1975; 1977) and Damon(1977) and a hypothetical story dillema based on Selman(1981). The developmental stage of each concept was determined through content analysis of the responses each child. Statistical analysis of obtained data was by percentage and Goodman-Kruskal's ${\gamma}$. * The results showed that children's conceptions of justice and of friendship developed in an age-related manner during early and middle childhood. While there was a significant correlation between children's conceptions of justice and friendship, this result was due to age-relatedness. The results of the present study support a domain specific approach to social cognition.
This study examined the relationship of children's quality of friendship, conflict resolution strategies, and conflict outcomes by peer status. Thirty-four elementary school 5th grade dyads were selected by peer status and friendship status. The major results were that (1) popular children perceived more help and less conflict and rivalry from friends than rejected children. (2) Popular children used more compromising/integrating and less dominating strategies than rejected children to resolve conflicts. Conflicts between popular-average pairs resulted in equal outcomes more often and unresolved outcomes less often than rejected-average pairs. (3) There were significant correlations between friendship quality, conflict resolution strategies, and conflict outcomes by peer status.
This study investigated the relationship between the sociometric status(1) of a target child and the target child's most preferred peer, and (2) of the quality of their friendship between the two peers. Each of the subjects (238 boys, 6, 8, and 10 years of age) nominated 3 preferred peers answered questions about the preferred peers with the use of the Friendship Quality Scales. Results indicated that the sociometric status of children aged 8 and 10 were positively related to that of their most preferred peers. Reciprocal friendships, however, were more frequently observed among children in high sociometric status compared with those in low sociometric status. The quality of friendships among popular children was higher than that of rejected children. The quality of friendships between popular and rejected children was lower than friendship between rejected and rejected children.
The purpose of this study was to examine the influences of victimization by peers on self-esteem and the role of father/mother attachment and friendship with a range of 354 2nd-grade junior high school students(169 boys and 185 girls). The subjects reported victimization, father/mother attachment, friendship(number of friends and presence of a best friend), self-esteem and their peers rated victimization, too. The result indicated that (1) Victims in the end of the second semester were also those who were victimized by peers in the end of the first semester, (2) The victimization by peers effected on self-esteem in boys and girls, (3) The interaction effect of victimization and parent attachment on self-esteem was statistically significant only for boys, and friendship on self-esteem was statistically significant only for girls.

A Vehicular Ad-Hoc Network (VANET) is a form of Mobile ad-hoc network, to provide temporary communications among nearby vehicles. Mobile node of VANET consumes energy and resource with participating in the member of network. Some node tends to have a selfishness to place one's own profits above cooperation with others. As result of selfish node, it reduces data accessibility and the efficiency of networks. In this paper, we propose noble method, Friendship-VaR that excludes selfish nodes from a group of VANET. Friendship-VaR enables to improve data accessibility by eliminating selfish nodes and sharing data among reliable nodes. Friendship-VaR determines selfishness of nodes by simple data exchange. The experiments shows proposed method outperform existing method in terms of data accessibility.
