  • In this paper, joints of Cu-1Cr-0.1Zr alloy to STS316L were performed by friction welding method. Cu-1Cr-0.1Zr alloy is attractive candidate as nuclear power plant material and exibit the best combination of high sts good electrical and thermal conductivity of any copper alloy examined. The stainless steel is a structural material who alloy acts as a heat sink material for the surface heat flux in the first wall. So, in this paper, not only the develop optimizing of friction welding with more reliability and more applicabililty but also the development of in-process rear quility(such as strength and toughness) evaluation technique by acoustic emission for friction welding of such nuclear component of Cu-1Cr-0.1Zr alloy to STS316L steel were performed.

  • Plunger (piston rod) materials are used in high-pressure condition. So STD11 is the essential material to build this plunger. However, it costs more to make a plunger by using only STD11 than using the welding of STD11 to SCM440 and other dissimilar material. And it has been difficult to weld this sort of dissimilar materials. They could be unstable in the quality by the conventional arc welding. And also they have a lot of technical problems in manufacturing. But, by the friction welding technique, it will be able to be made without such problems. And then, on account of such reasons, we need a new approach of study on real-time quality evaluation by acoustic emission (AE) techniques as well as a domestic development of the plunger by friction welding. So that, the purpose of this study for such developments is the development of a plunger by optimizing of friction welding with more reliability and more applicability. Then, this study aimed not only to develop the optimization of friction welding of dissimilar plunger steels of STD11 to SCM440, but also to develop the application technique of the acoustic emission to accomplish an in-process real-time quality evaluation during friction welding of the plunger materials by the AE technique.

  • This paper deals with determining the proper friction welding condition and analyzing various mechanical properties of friction welded joints of the bladepart heat resisting steel(STD11) for cold die punch to the shank part alloy steel(SCM440). And the in-process real-time weld quality evaluation technique by acoustic emission during friction welding of STD11 to SCM440 steels with higher confidence and reliability has been much required even though it might be the first trial approach for developing it. Also, the high temperature properties of STD11-SCM440 weld were considered in this paper.

  • This paper deals with determinig the proper friction welding condition and analyzing various mechanical properties of friction welded joints of sintered carbide tool materials(K20, P25, and SKDX5 for the blade part of drill or press punch) to alloy steel (SKH4, SCM440 for the shank part of drill or press punch), the alloy steel to aluminum(A6061 for the interlayer material between the blade part and the shank) and sintered carbide tool materials to alumminum. And also acoustic emission test will be carried out during fiction welding to evaluate the weld quality.

  • In this paper, friction welding optimization for 1Cr0.5Mo to STS304 and AE applications for the weld quality evaluation were investigated The important results of this study are as follows : 1. The techiques for dissimilar friction welding optimization if the elevated temperature materials 1Cr0.5Mo and STS304 and its real-time weld quality evaluation by AE were developed, considering on both strength and toughness. 2. Quantitative relationship was identified among welding condition, weld quality and cumulative AE counts.

  • This paper presents the experimental examinations and statistical quantitative analysis of the correlation between the cumulative counts of acoustic emission(AE) during plastic deformation periods of the welding and the tensile strength and other properties of the bar-to-bar welded joints of O.D. 16mm shaft(SM40C) as well as the various welding variables. And this is a new approach which attempts finally to develop real-time quality monitoring system for friction welding. The results lead to a practical possibility of real-time quality control more than 100% joint efficiency showing good weld with no micro structural defects.

  • Nowadays, the crank shaft motor vehicle has become essential as the important component. The machining precision was asked for manufacturing the shaft. They could be unstable in the quality by the conventional are welding. Both in-process quailty control and high reliability of the weld are the major concerns in applying friction wlding to the economical and qualified mass-production. No reliable nondestructive monitoring method is avaliable at present to determine the real-time evaluation of automatic production quality control for bar-to-bar friction welding of the crank shaft of O.D 24mm for motor vehicle.   • The engine exhaustive valve became essential as the important element. The dissimmilar welding method of exhaustive valve head to stem was asked for manufacturing the engine exhaustive valve, for which the electric resistance are welding has been conventionally used, resulting in poor quality of the welded joint. In this paper, not only the development of optimizing of friction welding with more reliability and more applicability but also the development of in-process real-time weld qudlity(such as strength and toughness) evaluation technique by acoustic emission for friction welding of the engine exhaustive valve(SUH3-SUH35 dissimilar steels) were perfomed. The high temperature(500, 500, 600$^{circ}$C) creep properties prediction of the friction welded joint of SUH3-SUH35 was investigated relating to the initial strain meethod(ISM) as a new approach, resulting in obtaining an experimental equation of creep life prediction.
