This test was attempted to investigate the effects of some mix designs of concreteon the compressive strengths and corrosive rates when exposed to sea water of the West Sea. In this test, concrete mixes consisted of an ordinary concrete, a pozzolan concrete and concretes with different admixtures such as fly ash, pozzolith and vinsol resin. Compressive strengths of the concrete were measured at ages of 1-year and 2-years when exposed to both sea water and fresh water. Corrosive rate was tested at ages of 1-year and 2-years when exposed to sea water only. The results obtained from the test may be summarized as follows: (1) When all of concretes were exposed to fresh water, compressive strength of an ordinary concrete was the lowest at all mixes of concretes, and all of them showed higher strength as the exposing age is longer. It was evidance that the uses of pozsolan cement, fly ash, pozzolith and vinsol resin in mix design of concrete had an effect on increasing compressive strength and that fresh water also had an effect on curing concretes even though at a long-time age. (2) When concretes were exposed sea water, a concrete with fly ash was the highest in compressive strength and its strength was increasing as the exposing age is longer, but the other concretes were decreased at 2-year exposure. It was found that a concrete with fly ash was the most effective on compressive strength of all concrete, but the other concretes were attacked by action of the sea water. (3) The use of vinsol resin admixture was the most resistant to corrosion by sea water, while the use of pozzolith was the most serious at corrosion and the others were corroded to almost same extent. (4) The relationship between corrosions and compressive strengths of concretes was not clearly correlated yet. It was known that the corrosive rate of concretes could not affect to compressive strengths by 2-year exposure of the sea water. (5) Pozzolan concrete was the most effective in compressive strength when exposed to fresh water only, However, the use of a fly ash admixture was available for compressive strength when exposing to both fresh water and sea water. It was also noticed that the use of vinsol resin was not available for strengths of concrete but for resistance to corrosion when exposed to sea water. (6) It was found that the use of pozzolith was so defective in compressive strengths and corrosiive resistance when exposing to sea water that it was only available for fresh water.

This study was carried out to investigate the effects of various mix designs of concrete on the compressive strengths and corrosive rates when the concretes were immersed in sea water of the West Sea, as the part of study related to durated to durability of concrete by action of the sea water. Concrete mix designs used in this study were ordinary Concrete mix, Concrete mixes with different admixtures such as fly ash, pozzolith and vinsol resin, and pozzolan concrete mix. The concrete specimens were made and cured for 7 days and 28 days in the fresh water in accordance with the Korean Standard specification for concrete. Compressive strengths of the specimens were measured after immersing the specimens for one year in fresh water and sea water which were placed indoors. The sea water used in this test was taken from the Bay of Ahsan. Corrosive rate was also tested after immersing the specimens in the same sea water and placed indoors for one year. The results obtained from the tests are summarized as follows; 1. Compressive strength of an ordinary concrete was the lowest of the various mix desings of concrete immersed both in the fresh water and the sea water. Therefore, the uses of pozzolan cement, fly ash, pozoolith and vinsol resin in mix design of concrete had and effect on increasing compressive strength. 2. Pozzolan concrete was the most effective on compressive strength in the fresh water, but it had less effect than concrete with fly ash admixture immersed in the sea water. 3. The use of fly ash admixture in mix design of concrete showed higher strength as the immersing age is longer both in fresh water and sea water than the other concretes besides pozzolan concrete, but the concretewith fly ash admixture had lower strength than pozzolan concrete in the sea water. Therefore, concrete with fly ash admixture might be better than the pozzolan concrete as far as durability of concrete to sea water was concerned. 4. The use of pozzolith admixture in mix design of concrete had less compressive strength than the use of pozzolan cement for fly ash admixture both in fresh water and sea water. However, the concrete with pozzolith admixture was much stronger than one with vinsol resin admixture in fresh water, but somewhat stronger in the sea water. 5. Though the use of vinsol resin admixture was more effective than ordinary concrete on compressive strength both in fresh water and sea water, it was the least compressive strength among the other concretes. 6. Relation between compressive strengths and absorption rates of every kind of concrete besides concrete with fly ash admixture showed a linear regression line and the compressive strength is highee as the absorption rate is lower. Concrete with fly ash admixture had extremely high strength in comparison with corresponding adsorption rates of the other concretes. 7. Corrosive appearance on the surface of concretes was not occured significantly when exposed to the sea water for one year, However, the specimens of concretes besides ordinary concrete were a little heavier than those cured in fresh water for 28 days.
The evaporative desalination system using solar thermal energy would be the efficient and attractive method to get fresh water from brine due to low carbon dioxide generation. In this research the solar desalination system as a heating source of refrigerant R123 in the evaporator was considered. The circulation of refrigerant in the evaporator can reduce the energy consumption of the system, because of using the latent heat of the refrigerant 123 instead of the sensible heat of present hot water. The system was comprised of the single-stage fresh water production unit on the capacity of 1ton/day with shell and tube type evaporator, heaters instead of solar collector to supply the proper heat to refrigerant, and refrigerant and brine circulation systems. Various operating flowrate and temperature ranges were varied in the experiments to get the optimum design data. The results showed that the optimum flow rate of brine feed rate to evaporator was 1.2Liter/min, and the yield of fresh water was increased as higher temperature of feed brine. It was confirmed that the circulation flowrate of heating source of refrigerant was decrease of one fifth of the present warm water system, and very efficient system for solar desalination.
To study the effect of moisture content of the diet on drinking behaviour and the amount of water drunk, observations were made on 8 Holstein steers fed either fresh cut forage or first cut hay. The observations were made in a barn with a mean temperature of about $13^{\circ}C$. Drinking occurred mainly within 3 hours after feeding for the steers fed hay, while those fed soilage drank casually. Frequency of drinking (F) was related to the dry-matter concentration (DMC, %) of herbage: F = 0.47 (${\pm}0.09$) DMC - 6.5, $SE={\pm}0.4$, r = 0.86, P<0.01. Intake of drinking water for each 100 kg of live weight (IDW/100kg) for steers fed soilage was related to the dry-matter concentration: IDW/100kg = 0.55 (${\pm}0.06$) DMC - 8.7, $SE={\pm}0.3$, r = 0.94, P<0.01. The intake of water in each drinking period for animals fed fresh forage was curvilinearly related to the drinking frequency; for the hay-fed steers there was a negative linear relationship. When the drinking frequency for steers fed the fresh forage increased to the same as that observed for the hay, water intake in each drinking period was the same as found for the hay-fed steers.

In general, it is critical that grout consistency permit the complete filling of void space without segregation of ingredients. Recently, the antiwashout agent is used on underwater grout materials for preventing the grout from the segregation in water. This study introduces a new type of antiwashout underwater and flowable grout material using viscous modifiers and its characteristics comparing with conventional grout materials in fresh and sea water. It is found that the antiwashout underwater grout both in fresh and sea water has enough strength and good resistance to segregation.
To study the intruded phenomena of North Pacific Ocean around Boso peninsular, water property distribution in the adjacent seas to Japan is studied using the hydrographic data obtained by Japan Maritime Agency and Japan Fisheries Agency from 1973 to 1996, The scattering of water type in T-5 diagram is relatively small in the Kuroshio Region. Both the envelopes of saline side and of fresh side of the scattered data points shifts gradually from saline side to fresh side as the observation Line moves from southwest to northeast. In mixed water region, the scattering of water type increases rapidly as the observation line moves north; the envelope of fresh cold side moves towards fresh cold side much faster than that of saline side. This suggests that the water does not advect along the salinity minimum layer, but the salinity minimum layer can be understood as a boundary of two different waters aligned vertically, We defined the typical water masses as the Oyashio Water and the Kuroshio Water. The water mass below the salinity minimum layer may be created by isopycnal mixing of these two water masses with a fixed mixing rate. While the water mass above the salinity minimum cannot be created simply by isopycnal mixing. The salinity minimum layer may be eroded from upper side due to active minxing processes in the surface layer, while the water of the salinity minimum layer moves gradually southward. This appears to give an explanation why the thermosteric anomaly value at salinity minimun decereases towards south.

Using a finite volume ocean circulation model based on an unstructured grid (FVCOM), we studied the structure of a fresh water bulge that influences on the Region Of Freshwater Influence. Fresh water discharged a river forms a coastal boundary current to the righthand side and a cyclonically circulation freshwater bulge that grows with time. In the middle of the bulge, vertical motions bring fresh water to the bottom. When tidal motions are included, the bulge disappears while the boundary currents becomes wider. Through a simple comparison of areas occupied low salinity water we quantified vertical and horizontal mixing due to the tide and showed that the tidal motion enhances the vertical mixing. During the first few tidal cycles right after the onset of the river discharge, due to tidal excursion the horizontal mixing becomes stronger. The vertical mixing by the tide mixes the fresh water After a certain time the water around the river mouth is well mixed and the horizontal excursion of the fresh water near the river mouth does not have much effect on the horizontal mixing. When there is no tidal motion horizontal mixing is mainly by the inertial instability at the surface and the horizontal mixing becomes stronger over time.
In biofloc culture for olive flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus, the possibility of antibiotics treatment was investigated against edwardsiellosis. After inducing edwardsiellosis by immersion in Edwardsiella tarda 1.2 × 105/mL suspension, the survival trends on various biofloc water management and some physiological changes were observed. For biofloc water management, six types of water treatments were carried out, which were no exchange without antibiotics as negative control, the exchange to stored biofloc water, the exchange to stored biofloc water with 20% flow-through, the exchange to fresh biofloc water, half fresh biofloc water and half sea water, and the complete flow-through. There was no significant physicochemical change on water qualities in any type. The exchange to fresh biofloc water was shown the highest survival ratio as 72.3%, and in case of stored biofloc water with 20% flow-through, the survival ratio was also significantly high as 62%. Plasma glucose, cholesterol, total protein, calcium, and magnesium were analyzed as physiological index. Mostly, there was no significant change, but plasma cholesterol showed an initial decrease in low survival group, and an initial increase with high survival group. Consequently, antibiotic treatment against a bacterial disease during biofloc culture is possible as long as the biofloc water management follow along properly.

Many tanks such as a fresh water tank, an aft peak tank and oil tanks are arranged in the engine room and aft part areas of the ship. By added mass effect of the fluid inside the tanks, the natural frequency will be changed according to filling height of the tank. For this reason, there is possibility of occurrence of excessive vibration by resonance between natural frequencies of local structure and excitation frequencies of the propeller or main engine. Therefore, calculation of natural frequencies is required for structure for many types of tank which are contacting with water or oil to consider added mass effect for anti-resonance design at design stage. In this study, a case of structure damage on the fresh water tank for 2600 TEU container vessel is introduced. In addition, natural frequency analysis and vibration measurement have been performed to investigate vibration characteristics for excessive vibration control.

This study was conducted to investigate physicochemical and functional properties of turnip. The concentrations of antocyanin in the rind of root was 3.24mg%, which was about 3.5 times higher than those in the flesh. Among free amino acids in each part of turnip, glutamic acid showed the highest concentrations(132.5mg%) in the root followed by alanine(25.0mg%), valine (23.3mg%), and serine (20.7mg%). Contents of minerals in the root of turnip were 395.7mg% for potassium, 187mg% for calcium, 53.6mg% for phosphate, and 40.7mg% for magnesium. According to dynamic heasdspace analysis, dimethyl disulfide was the most abundant flavor components from the juice of fresh turnip and other volatile components such as dimethyl trisulfide, 1 hexanal, 2 methyl 1 butamine, and 1 penten 3 ol were also identified. From the blanched turnip, however, 3 isothiocyanato 1 propene and 4 isothiocyanato 1 butene were mainly detected. Fresh and blanched turnips were extracted with water or 70% acetone to investigate percent yield. The concentrations of total polyphenols in the extracts of fresh turnip were higher than those of blanched turnip. The nitrite scavenging effects of water and 70% acetone extracts from fresh or blanched turnip were decreased as pH was increased. Between two water extracts, the 30oC water extracts showed the higher values of electron donating ability than 95$^{\circ}C$ water extracts.
