Embedded capacitor technology is one of the effective packing technologies for further miniaturization and higher performance of electric packaging system. In this paper, the embedded capacitors were simulated and fabricated in 8-layered printed circuit board employing standard PCB processes. The composites of barium titanante($BaTiO_3$) powder and epoxy resin were employed for the dielectric materials in embedded capacitors. Theoretical considerations regarding the embedded capacitors have been paid to understand the frequency dependent impedance behavior. Frequency dependent impedance of simulated and fabricated embedded capacitors was investigated. Fabricated embedded capacitors have lower self resonance frequency values than that of the simulated embedded capacitors due to the increased parasitic inductance values. Frequency dependent capacitances of fabricated embedded capacitors were well matched with those of simulated embedded capacitors from the 100MHz to 10GHz range. Quality factor of 20 was observed and simulated at 2GHz range in the 10 pF embedded capacitors. Temperature dependent capacitance of fabricated embedded capacitors was presented.
Impedance spectroscopy informs electrical properties of materials as accumulated charges, contact status between electrode and organic materials. We carried out impedance spectroscopy of organic light-emitting diodes as ITO/Alq3(60 nm)/Al on temperatures from 10 K to 300 K. The result described Z'-Z" plot, cole-cole plot and dielectric relaxation time τ. Z'-Z" plot means that real and imaginary part of materials in organic and electrode by frequencies and temperature. Z' as real part of impedance by applied frequency depending on temperature shows the plateau in low frequency region as Rs+ Rp and over 100 kHz in high frequency region as Rs. Cole-cole plot shows resistance of materials in equivalent circuit of the device by temperatures. And equivalent circuit and dielectric relaxation could be accomplished by using the complex impedance analysis.

This paper proposes a new modeling method for estimating the impedance of an on-chip power/ground meshed plane. Frequency dependent R, L, and C parameters are extracted based on the proposed method so that the model can be applied from DC to high frequencies. The meshed plane model is composed of two parts: coplanar multi strip (CMS) and conductor-backed CMS. The conformal mapping technique and the scaled conductivity concept are used for accurate modeling of the CMS. The developed microstrip approach is applied to model the conductor-backed CMS. The proposed modeling method has been successfully verified by comparing the impedance of RLC circuit based on extracted parameters and the simulated impedance using a 3D-field solver.
An empirical formula proposed by Petersson and Plunt(PP's formula) and finite element analysis for impedance calculation of ship equipment foundations are investigated by comparing the analysis results with those of experimental results. The PP's formula well estimates resonant frequency of the foundations and impedance level except around the resonant region although the impedance level around the resonant frequency is heavily dependent upon the assumed loss factor. The results show that the PP's formula and finite element models can be complementarily used to estimate the impedance characteristics of various types of foundation of ships in design stage.
This paper deals with the numerical method of calculating the frequency-dependent impedances of grounding electrodes. The proposed electromagnetic field approach is based on the solutions to Maxwell's equations obtained from the method of moment in the frequency domain. In order to evaluate the quality of the proposed simulation method, the frequency-dependent impedances of horizontally-buried ground electrodes were presented. The program for calculating the current distributions and impedances of grounding electrodes was implemented in MATLAB. The grounding impedances of two 10m and 50m long horizontal ground electrodes were measured and simulated in the frequency range from 100Hz to 10MHz for easy analysis and comparison. Also the simulated results were compared with those calculated from a sophisticated computer program CDEGS (HIFREQ module). As a result, the resultant results of frequency-dependent impedances obtained by using the numerical simulation method proposed in this work are in good agreement with experimental data. The validity of the approach techniques was confirmed.
We have investigated equivalent-circuit analysis of organic light-emitting diodes using frequency-dependent response of $ITO/Alq_3(60nm)/Al$ device at two different bias voltages. Complex impedance Z of the device was measured in the frequency range of 40Hz~1MHz. A Cole-Cole plot shows that there are two dielectric relaxations at the bias below turn-on voltage, and one relaxation at the bias above turn-on voltage. We are able to interpret the frequency-dependent response in terms of equivalent-circuit model of contact resistance $R_s$ in series with parallel combination of resistance $R_p$ and capacitance $C_p$. We have obtained contact resistance $R_s$ around $90{\Omega}$, mainly from the ITO anode.
The most important object of grounding systems is to protect human being from electric shock. Touch and step voltages are measured to evaluate the performances of grounding systems. Dangerous voltages have been largely studied by the power frequency fault currents, on the other hand, the ground current containing the high frequency components and surge currents haven't been considered. Many attempts about the grounding impedances reported in these days show that the performance of the grounding systems in high frequency range is very different with the ground resistance. It is necessary to analyze the dangerous voltages formed by the ground currents containing high frequency components. In this paper, the ground surface potential rises near the vertical and horizontal grounding electrodes are measured at the frequency of 100[Hz], 30[kHz], and 100[kHz]. Dangerous voltages are investigated with the frequency-dependent grounding impedance. As a result, the ground surface potential rise is increased as the grounding impedance increases. Touch and step voltages near the grounding electrode whose impedance increases with the frequency are sharply raised.

Bioelectrical impedance (BI) at popliteal regions was measured using a bioelectrical impedance measurement system (BIMS), which employs the multi-frequency and the two-electrode method. Experiments were performed as follows. First, a constant AC current of $800{\mu}A$ was applied to the popliteal regions (left and right) and the BI was measured at eight different frequencies from 10 to 500 kHz. When the applied frequency greater than 50 kHz was applied to human's popliteal regions, the BI was decreased significantly. Logarithmic plot of impedance vs. frequency indicated two different mechanisms in the impedance phenomena before and after 50 kHz. Second, the relationship between resistance and reactance was obtained with respect to the applied frequency using BI (resistance and reactance) acquired from the popliteal regions. The phase angle (PA) was found to be strongly dependent on frequency. At 50 kHz, the PA at the right popliteal region was $7.8^{\circ}$ slightly larger than $7.6^{\circ}$ at the left popliteal region. Third, BI values of extracellular fluid (ECF) and intracellular fluid (ICF) were calculated using BIMS. At 10 kHz, the BI values of ECF at the left and right popliteal regions were $1664.14{\Omega}$ and $1614.08{\Omega}$, respectively. The BI values of ECF and ICF decreased sharply in the frequency range of 10 to 50 kHz, and gradually decreased up to 500 kHz. Logarithmic plot of BI vs. frequency shows that the BI of ICF decreased noticeably at high frequency above 300 kHz because of a large decrease in the capacitance of the cell membrane.
This paper investigates the dynamic response of structures during earthquakes and provides a clear understanding of soil-structure interaction phenomena. It analyses various parameters, comprising ground shear wave velocity and structure properties. The effect of soil impedance function form on the structural response of the system through the use of springs and dashpots with two frequency cases: independent and dependent frequencies. The superstructure and the ground were modeled linearly. Using the substructure method, two different approaches are used in this study. The first is an analytical formulation based on the dynamic equilibrium of the soil-structure system modeled by an analog model with three degrees of freedom. The second is a numerical analysis generated with 2D finite element modeling using ABAQUS software. The superstructure is represented as a SDOF system in all the SSI models assessed. This analysis establishes the key parameters affecting the soil-structure interaction and their effects. The different results obtained from the analysis are compared for each studied case (frequency-independent and frequency-dependent impedance functions). The achieved results confirm the sensitivity of buildings to soil-structure interaction and highlight the various factors and effects, such as soil and structure properties, specifically the shear wave velocity, the height and mass of the structure. Excitation frequency, and the foundation anchoring height, also has a significant impact on the fundamental parameters and the response of the coupled system at the same time. On the other hand, it have been demonstrated that the impedance function forms play a critical role in the accurate evaluation of structural behavior during seismic excitation. As a result, the evaluation of SSI effects on structural response must take into account the dynamic properties of the structure and soil accordingly.
A systematic approach of measurement, modeling and analysis of grounding system impedance is presented. The measurement and analysis system of ground impedance is based on a computer aided technique. The ground impedances of the ground rod are considerably dependent on the frequency. The ground impedance is mainly resistive in the frequency range of 3-20 kHz. At higher frequencies, the reactive components of the ground impedances are no longer negligible and the inductance of the ground rod was found to be the core factor deciding the ground impedance. As a consequence, the equivalent circuit model based on the measured data was proposed, and the calculated results were in approximately agreement with the measured data.
