This paper presents a vibration-rejection control design for a magnetic suspension system which has strong non-linearity, open-loop unstable characteristics, high-order flexible modes, and parameter variations. The target plant to be controlled consists of a U-core electromagnet and a flexible rail. We describe the test rig and formulate the mathematical model and then we set up a control problem as the mixed sensitivity problem where the augmented plant is constructed with frequency weighting functions and the feedback controller is designed by using the H$\infty$ controller. The effectiveness of the designed controller for the magnetic suspension system with high-order flexible modes is validated and justified using several simulations. These results show that the magnetic suspension system is robustly stable against disturbance and gives the well-damped tracking performance ...
In this paper, the condensation method which is based on the Rayleigh-Ritz method, is described for the free vibration analysis of axially loaded slightly curved beams subject to partial axial restraints. If the longitudinal inertia is neglected, some of the Rayleigh-Ritz minimization equations are independent of the frequency. These equations can be used to formulate a relationship between the weighting coefficients associated with the lateral and longitudinal displacements, which leads to "connection coefficient matrix". Once this matrix is formed, it is then substituted into the remaining Rayleigh-Ritz equations to obtain an eigenvalue equation with a reduced matrix size. This method has been applied to simply supported and partially clamped beams with three different shapes of imperfection. The results indicate that for small imperfections resembling the fundamental vibration mode, the sum of the square of the fundamental natural and a non-dimensional axial load ratio normalized with respect to the fundamental critical load is approximately proportional to the square of the central displacement.
The present study examines how a cognitive attention affects Korean learners of English (L2) in perceiving the English stop voicing distinction (/d/-/t/). This study tested the effect of attentional distractor on primary and non-primary acoustic cues, focusing on the role of Voice Onset Time (VOT) and fundamental frequency (F0). Using the dual-task paradigm, 28 Korean adult learners of English participated in the stop identification task carried with (distractor) and without (no-distractor) arithmetic calculation. Results showed that when distracted, Korean learners' sensitivity to VOT decreased as priorly reported with native English speakers. Furthermore, as F0 is a primary cue for a L1 Korean stop laryngeal contrast, its role in L2 English voicing distinction was also affected by a distractor, without compensating for the reduced VOT sensitivity. These findings suggest that flexible use of multiple cues in L1 is not necessarily beneficial for L2 phonological processing when coping with a adverse listening condition.
We proposed a method for visual place recognition that represents images using objects as visual words. Visual words represent the various objects present in urban environments. To detect various objects within the images, we implemented and used a zero-shot detector based on a large-scale image language model. This zero-shot detector enables the detection of various objects in urban environments without additional training. In the process of creating histograms using the proposed method, frequency-based weighting was applied to consider the importance of each object. Through experiments with open datasets, the potential of the proposed method was demonstrated by comparing it with another method, even in situations involving environmental or viewpoint changes.

The size of urban areas is currently growing and the functions of cities are becoming increasingly complicated. Furthermore, more people are living in cities. The life of urban is getting closer and linked with neighboring people in many parts. In particular, people are making artificial noise, even though it might not consciously be noticed, in their daily live. Seoul is the most crowded place in Korea and the noise levels are 73dB or higher. People living in cities are exposed to noise pollution. In particular, loudspeakers used during demonstrations or to generate publicity, cause considerable noise, which in turn can be related to stress. Moreover, the noise restrictions defined by law are not adhered to. If enhanced noise regulations, no matter how residents are not forced to be a great stress field close to the noise and reduces the loudness -5dB do not feel well if the difference. Limiting the duration of noise rather than reducing the volume thus is a much more plausible way of reducing the damage caused by noise pollution. If the stress caused by the noise, you will see people or vehicles holding a megaphone at the roadside is not good for health if it may be a wise way to live that is getting rid of the noise pollution so quickly out of the area.

The Potential Flood Damage (PFD) is widely used for representing the degree of potential of flood damage. However, this cannot be related with the design frequency of river basin and so we have difficulty in the use of water resources field. Therefore, in this study, the concept of Potential Risk for Flood Damage Occurrence (PRFD) was introduced and estimated, which can be related to the design frequency. The PRFD has three important elements of hazard, exposure, and vulnerability. The hazard means a probability of occurrence of flood event, the exposure represents the degree that the property is exposed in the flood hazard, and the vulnerability represents the degree of weakness of the measures for flood prevention. Those elements were devided into some sub-elements. The hazard is explained by the frequency based rainfall, the exposure has two sub-elements which are population density and official land price, and the vulnerability has two sub-elements which are undevelopedness index and ability of flood defence. Each sub-elements are estimated and the estimated values are rearranged in the range of 0 to 100. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is also applied to determine weighting coefficients in the equation of PRFD. The PRFD for the Anyang river basin and the design frequency are estimated by using the maximum rainfall. The existing design frequency for Anyang river basin is in the range of 50 to 200. And the design frequency estimation result of PRFD of this study is in the range of 110 to 130. Therefore, the developed method for the estimation of PRFD and the design frequency for the administrative districts are used and the method for the watershed and the river channel are to be applied in the future study.
In this paper, we compared speaker verification performance of the speech data collected in clean environment and in channel environment. For the improvement of the performance of speaker verification gathered in channel, we have studied on the efficient feature parameters in channel environment and on the preprocessing. Speech DB for experiment is consisted of Korean doublet of numbers, considering the text-prompted system. Speech features including LPCC(Linear Predictive Cepstral Coefficient), MFCC(Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficient), PLP(Perceptually Linear Prediction), LSP(Line Spectrum Pair) are analyzed. Also, the preprocessing of filtering to remove channel noise is studied. To remove or compensate for the channel effect from the extracted features, cepstral weighting, CMS(Cepstral Mean Subtraction), RASTA(RelAtive SpecTrAl) are applied. Also by presenting the speech recognition performance on each features and the processing, we compared speech recognition performance and speaker verification performance. For the evaluation of the applied speech features and processing methods, HTK(HMM Tool Kit) 2.0 is used. Giving different threshold according to male or female speaker, we compare EER(Equal Error Rate) on the clean speech data and channel data. Our simulation results show that, removing low band and high band channel noise by applying band pass filter(150~3800Hz) in preprocessing procedure, and extracting MFCC from the filtered speech, the best speaker verification performance was achieved from the view point of EER measurement.
It is well known that the MDVR beamforming outperforms the conventional delay-sum beamformer in the sense of noise rejection and bearing resolution. However, the MDVR method requires long observation time to achieve high frequency resolution. The STMV method uses the steered covariance matrix of sensor data, so it has an ability to form an adaptive weight vector from a single time-series snapshot. But it uses the same weight vector across all frequencies. In this paper, we propose an SSMV method. The basic idea of the SSMV method is to decompose a full frequency band into several subbands to acquire a weight vector for each subband, individually. Also the wrap may be divided into several subarrays in order to reduce a computational load and the bandwidth of each subband. Simulations using real sea trial data show that the proposed SSMV method has good performance with short observation time.

In order to extend cell coverage and to cope with shadow areas, a relay-assisted wireless communications system has been widely studied. In this paper, we propose new equalization method for single carrier (SC) frequency domain equalizer (FDE) in amplify-and-forward (AF) relaying multi-path networks to improve the performance at shadow areas. The performance of SC-FDE system in 3-slot based multi-path networks can be improved considerably with the diversity gain which we obtain by equalizing the combined signal from relays by means of the minimum mean square error (MMSE) criteria. We find the weighting coefficients of maximum ratio combining (MRC) and the tap coefficients of MMSE equalizer for SC-FDE in AF relaying multi-path networks. Simulation results show that the proposed system considerably outperforms the conventional SC-FDE system.

In this paper, peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) with respect to the subchannel coding schemes for interchannel interference (ICI) self-cancellation is analyzed. It is shown theoretically and experimentally that a shaping component is generated in the transmitted sequence in the conventional correlative coding where a pair of antipodal signals is assigned in adjacent subchannels. Due to the shaping component, the signal powers in the mid and edges of a symbol are scaled by different weighting coefficients, resulting in increased PAPR. To overcome this problem a simple adjacent subchannel coding scheme is presented in this paper. In the new scheme, the shaping component caused by partial repetition of signals is eliminated by assigning a pair of signals in which phase difference varies signal-to-signal. As results, the new scheme has 2-3 dB smaller PAPR than the conventional ICI self-cancellation OFDM while maintaining much higher carrier-to-interference ratio than a normal OFDM system.
