  • The room modes were showed as the peaks and dips on the low frequency response of the loudspeaker, and were one of the biggest obstacles to reproduce the sound. In order to reduce the occurrence of resonance, equalizing is performed at one position, and the frequency response to be equalized is valid only at that position. Performing the equalization would improve the flatness of the frequency response a little, but it cannot eliminate the ringing. Another method is that it is located the speaker at the specific position where the room resonances were not frequently happened. However, there may be the practical limitation that you may not be able to install the speaker at the position to be wanted. One of the practical solutions to decrease the production of resonance in room is the use of bass trap. In this paper, the practical limit for the room tuning using an equalizer and the room optimization will be discussed. The use of bass traps to solve the resonance problem that is always happened in the room is also proposed.

  • The parallel inverter is popularly used because of its fault-tolerance capability, high-current outputs at constant voltages and system modularity. The conventional parallel inverter usually employes active and reactive power control or frequency and voltage droop control. However, these approaches have the disadvantages that the response time of parallel inverter control is slow against load and system parameter variation to calculate active, reactive power, frequency and voltage. This paper describes a novel control scheme for power equalization in parallel connected inverter. The proposed scheme has a fast power balance control response, a simplicity of implementation, and inherent peak current limiting capability since it employes a instantaneous current/voltage control with output voltage and current balance and output voltage regulation. A design procedure for the proposed parallel inverter controller is presented. Futhermore, the proposed control scheme is verified through the simulation in various cases such as the system parameter variation, the control parameter variation and the nonlinear load condition.

  • Recently, as demands for super-high speed broad band wireless multimedia service increase, variable researches to develop wireless LAN have been carried out. In this paper, we propose and analyze LS(Least Squares)-PSA(Pilot Symbol Assisted) equalizer which compensates for each subcarrier of different attenuations and phase response for OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing)-based indoor wireless LAN systems. The proposed equalizer enhances the $E_{b}$ $N_{o}$ performance of 3dB and 4dB at BER=10$^{-2}$ as compared with LS equalizer in AWGN channel and indoor wireless channel respectively..

  • It is widely accepted that single carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) is an excellent candidate for broadband wireless systems. Channel estimation is one of the key challenges in SC-FDMA, since accurate channel estimation can significantly improve equalization at the receiver and, consequently, enhance the communication performances. In this paper, we study the application of compressive sensing for sparse channel estimation in a SC-FDMA system. By skillfully designing pilots, their patterns, and taking advantages of the sparsity of the channel impulse response, the proposed system realizes channel estimation at a low cost. Simulation results show that it can achieve significantly improved performance in a frequency selective fading sparse channel with fewer pilots.

  • A 6-Gbps feed-forward equalizer having a 6.2-dB gain at 3GHz is designed in 0.13-um CMOS technology and the equalizer helps error-free data recovery over a 7-m SATA cable with 14.7dB loss. Based on a differentially-connected varactor, the proposed equalizer uses only a one-fourth varactor size of a conventional equalizer, which enables the equalizer's integration in a pad-frame, high operating frequency, and low power dissipation of 3.6mW.

  • To remove unnecessary background from tooth X-ray images and enhance the sharpness of tooth and gum images, image processing techniques including contrast adjustment and histogram equalization are used. The introduction of two methods for detecting the boundary of the tooth and gum region and separating the tooth and gum from the background. In both cases, the background of the tooth X-ray images could be removed as a result, improving the quality of the images. The proposed method improves MTF (Modulation Transfer Function), an image performance indicator, as a result of measuring MTF. The original image's spatial frequency ranged from 4.73 to 11.40 lp/mm at the 10% response, whereas the proposed image's spatial frequency ranged from 10.90 to 11.85 lp/mm, giving uniformly enhanced results. In contrast, tooth and gums could not be completely separated from the background using Apple's Lift subject from background function.

  • For data transmission over strictly band-limited non-ideal channels, different types of filters with arbitrary responses are needed. In this paper. we proposed two efficient techniques for the design of such FIR filters whose response is specified in either the time or the frequency domain. In particular when a fractionally-spaced structure is used for the transceiver, these filters can be efficiently designed by making use of characteristics of oversampling. By using a minimum mean-squared error criterion, we design a fractionally-spaced FIR filter whose frequency response can be controlled without affecting the output error. With proper specification of the shape of the additive noise signals, for example, the design results in a receiver filter that can perform compromise equalization as well as phase splitting filtering for QAM demodulation. The second method ad-dresses the design of an FIR filter whose desired response can be arbitrarily specified in the frequency domain. For optimum design, we use an iterative optimization technique based on a weighted least mean square algorithm. A new adaptation algorithm for updating the weighting function is proposed for fast and stable convergence. It is shown that these two independent methods can be efficiently combined together for more complex applications.
