Estimating Value of Time for Freight Transportation in Freight Items using Logit Model (로짓모형을 이용한 화물 품목별 화물운송 시간가치 산정 연구)

  • Travel time reduction is a benefit in economic analysis. Freight transportation time reduction benefits influence the logistics industry. The objectives of this paper are to estimate the Value of Time (VOT) for transportation time reduction with logit methodology. The data of Gyeonggi-do's domestic road freight transport in 2007 are used. VOT was estimated for five commodities. An average VOT of 19,946 won/vehicle-hr was calculated; transport of electronic parts had the highest VOT. This study will help provide direction for improving Korea's road infrastructure for freight.

  • Increased cumulative running times of railroad vehicle brings out such degradation as wear and fatigue. It don't adapt corrective maintenance which repairs a poor pan after a trouble but use preventive maintenance which fixes a bad part before a trouble. There were a few researches for preventive maintenance such as inspect affairs and facilities management. They couldn't estimate the operation reliability on railroad vehicle. Therefore, this study proposes the preventive maintenance procedure that predict repair period of end beam for uncovered freight car using reliability function and instantaneous failure rate on the basis of fatigue test and load history data.

  • This paper addresses a fleet operation planning problem for a static freight container transportation system in which all the transportation requirements are predetermined at the beginning of a planning horizon. In the transportation system under consideration, a number of loaded containers are to be moved between container storage yards. An optimal fleet planning model is used to determine the minimum number of vehicles required. Based on the results from the optimal model, a tabu-search based algorithm is presented to perform a given transportation requirements with the least number of vehicles. The performance of the new procedure is evaluated through some experiments in comparison with two existing methods, and the it is found that our procedure produces good-quality solutions.

  • Running tests on roads were conducted to clarify the influences of road infrastructure, traffic condition and vehicle's emission level to the amount of emission at local roadsides, and to reveal the operation patterns which can reduce the emission peaks. NOx emission peaks of two light duty freight diesel vehicles which have different emission levels were evaluated by using an on-board measurement system. Tests were carried out with various payload conditions and road conditions. As a result many NOx emission peaks were observed when the vehicles were starting or accelerating at intersections. The test vehicle which has higher emission level caused higher frequency and level of NOx emission peaks. Shifting up at lower engine speed in combination with lower acceleration brought out not only reduction of NOx emission peaks level but also of $CO_2$ mass emission.

  • This paper presents the results of vehicle dynamics simulation for development of single axle bogie for freight vehicle. Those results consists of hunting stability, ride comfort and curving performance such as derailment ratio, unloading ratio. Dynamic behaviors of vehicle having single axle bogie is carried out using the multi-body dynamics simulation program(VAMPIRE). The results of analysis meet the criteria proposed by Korean National Railroad(KNR) and Korea Railroad Research Institute(KRRI).

  • The most important problem in logistic activities may be to decrease the transportation efficiency due to the traffic congestion in urban areas. The traffic congestion reduces the average travel speed of freight vehicles, and then increases the travel time. These problems can lead the logistic system to be inefficient. As a result, it causes an increase of transportation costs. In addition, the increased cost is a main barrier for the transition to an advanced logistic system. This study focuses on the analysis of key factors choosing commercial freight vehicles using Logistic regression-analysis with RP (Revealed Preference) data to solve the increase of private freight cars and transportation costs. Additionally, this paper presents policies to promote good use of commercial freight vehicles based on the results of this study.

  • Road freight transport industry in Korea contains many and complicate problems such as over supply of the vehicle caused by rapid policy changes, illegal multilevel transactions, poor truck drivers working environment, lack of road freight transport related statistics and so on. Korean government has developed various logistics industrial policy trying to solve these problems in various ways. However the relationship among the problems and action plans has been more and more entangled since the part of suggested policies have made another perverted problems. These complex structure of the toad freight transport industry in Korea makes difficult to identify and to solve the problems. Causal map method helps to give a clean picture to understand the complex industry at a fiance. This study contributes for visualization of the causal relationships among the existing problems and related policy issues in the road freight transport industry in Korea by causal map. This study could be helpful to develop the actual road freight transport industrial policies including the illogical multilevel and unfair transaction in Korea.

  • Recently, the number of consumers using digital online distribution platforms is increasing. This caused the rapid growth of the e-commerce market and increased delivery volume in urban areas. The logistics system, designed ar006Fund the city center to handle the delivery volume, operates a delivery system from the outskirts of the city to the urban area using cargo trucks. This maintains an ecosystem of high-cost and inefficient structures that increase social costs such as road traffic congestion and environmental problems. To solve this problem, research is being conducted worldwide to establish a high-efficiency urban joint logistics system using urban railway facilities and underground space infrastructure existing in existing cities. The joint logistics system begins with linking unmanned delivery automation services that link terminal delivery such as cargo classification and stacking, infrastructure construction that performs cargo transfer function by separating from passengers such as using cargo platform. To this end, it is necessary to apply the device to the vertical and horizontal transportation machine supporting the vertical transfer in the flat space of the joint logistics terminal, which is the base technology for transporting cargo using the transfer robot to the destination designated as a freight-only urban railway vehicle. Therefore, this paper aims to derive holistic viewpoints needs for design requirements for vertical and vertical transportation machines and freight transportation standard containers, which are underground railway logistics transport devices to be constructed by urban logistics ecosystem changes.
