The damage of the tunnel lining on the cold regions can be represented by cracks and leaks caused by freezing of ground water. However, domestically, the relevant construction guidelines are not provided so far. Thus, in this research, the mechanical behavior and thermal conductivity of designated tunnel area are measured using instrumentation system installed in the lining concrete inside tunnels in order to analysis their behavior with regard to temperature variations. Previous research mainly focused on the effect of temperature on the tunnel lining based on the air and initial ground temperature at urban regions. Thus, this study analyzes effects of air temperature and initial ground temperature of designated tunnel area at the cold regions. The temperature of the groundwater at the backfill of the tunnel lining are analyzed to evaluate the heating element. Numerical analyses are performed to evaluate the heating element with regard to the various initial ground temperatures.
Producing consistent, accurate soil moisture data to be utilized as a reference dataset for researches related to hydrological cycle and natural disaster is being critical, but such techniques (e.g. quality control) are still limited to improve reliability of soil moisture data. In this study, analyses of soil moisture's behavior and quality control based on International Soil Moisture Network's (ISMN's) criteria were carried out in Yongdam study watershed, which is UNESCO-IHP' representative examination area in South Korea, to suggest a direction to improve the quality of soil moisture data. The results of the behavior analysis showed normal increasing/decreasing patterns following precipitation events in all stations except two (i.e. Bugui, Ancheon). As a result of applying quality flagging technique, there were no observation recordings in abnormal range, and freezing of soil moisture occurred within general range (~20%). Soil moisture rise without prior rainfall appeared about 4% and there were less than 0.01% for spike and 5% for plateau. Producing more reliable reference data will be possible if site-specific criteria for quality control are considered enough in the future.
The crystal structure and magnetic properties of magnetic oxide system (F $e_2$$O_3$)$_{5}$(A $l_2$$O_3$)$_{4-x}$(G $a_2$$O_3$)$_{x}$)SiO has been studied using X-ray diffraction and Mossbauer spectroscopy The changes of magnetic structure by the Ga ion substitution and the temperature variation have been investigated using Mossbauer spectroscopy, and the results are compared with those of the SQUIB measurements. Results of X-ray diffraction indicated that the crystal structures of the system change from a cubic spinel type to an orthorhombic via the intermediate region. This magnetic oxide system seems to be new kind of spinel type ferrites containing high concentration of cation vacancies. Various and complicated Mossbauer spectra were observed in the samples (x>0.2) at temperatures lower than room temperature. This result could be explained by freezing of the superparamagnetic dusters. On cooling and substitution, magnetic states of the system show various and multicritical properties. Unexpected dip in magnetization curves below 50K was observed in SQUID measurements. It was interpreted as an effect of spin canting including spin freezing or collective spin behavior.ior.r.

Pyroligneous liquid(PL) is produced by carbonizing Oak in 350-40$0^{\circ}C$. It is traditionally used for treating stress-related disorder, hepatic disease, immune disorder, G-I disorder and inflammatory disease. The aim of this study is to investigate anti-stress effects of PL. The experiments were performed with the use of young(9 weeks of age) male rats of SD strain and the male ICR mice (20-25 g). Animals of the normal group were not exposed to any stress and the control group were exposed to stress. The rats of the Ginseng, diazepam(BZ) and PL supplementary group were orally administered once a day 100 g of Ginseng extract-kg body weight, 5 mg of BZ/kg body weight and 1 ml of PL100 g body weight and then exposed to stress. The mice of the Ginseng, BZ and PL supplementary group were given water containing 100 g of Ginseng extract/100 ml potable water, 5 mg of BZ/kg 100 ml of drinking water and 10 ml of PL/100 ml of drinking water and exposed to stress. Animals were given materials for 7 days after stabilizing them, and then were given supplementary materials for 5 days with stress. They were stressed by immobilization for 30 minutes and then the animals were exposed to electroshocks for 5 minutes. We recorded stress-related behavioral changes of experimental animals by stressing them using the Etho-vision system and measured the levels of corticosterone in blood While stress suppressed locomotor activity of animals, PL-supplementation partially blocked the stress effect of locomotion in rats and mice, and also partially blocked stress-induced behavioral changes such as freezing, burrowing, smelling and rearing activity in rats and freezing, grooming, tailing and rearing in mice. The staying time of stressed rats and mice in open area decreased and in closed area it increased relatively in elevated plus maze test. However, these changes also partially were blocked by PL-supplementation. PL-supplementation decreased levels of blood corticosterone increased by stress in rats. These results suggest that PL protects partially the living organism from stress attack in some cases.
PURPOSES: It is theoretically well known all over the world, that porous hot mixed asphalt (HMA) with hydrated Lime improves moisture and rutting resistance, and reduces pothole occurrence frequency, as well as the life cycle cost (LCC). METHODS : Addictive in the two different formations of the liquid anti-stripping Agent and powder Hydrated-Lime was applied in this investigation in order to obtain relatively clear results according to their types and conditions. Firstly, the moisture conditions were set, and applied to the porous HMA mixtures with hydrated lime (anti-stripping agent). Next, it was followed by a non-destructive test with the application of three freeze-thaw cycles, which were individually carried out thrice to compare the results of the dynamic moduli. Lastly, the hydrated lime effect related to moisture sensibility to porous HMA has been verified through the analysis of the modulus results regarding the change rate of dynamic modulus per n-cycle. RESULTS: It is clear from this investigation, that the dynamic modulus is inversely proportional to the change in temperature, as the graph representing the rigidity of the thermorheologically simple (TRS) material showed gradual decline of the dynamic modulus with the increase in temperature. CONCLUSIONS: The porous HMA mixture with the anti-stripping agent (hydrated Lime) has been found to be more moisture resistant to freezing and thawing than the normal porous HMA mixture. It is clear that the hydrated lime helps the HMA mixture to improve its fatigue resistance.
The main aim of this study was to investigate stress related activities of Sun-ginseng extract as a candidate for anti-stress-related functional supplement by comparing its effect to those of red ginseng, which is also known to alleviate stress. Normal group was not exposed to stress while the control group was exposed to stress. Rats were orally administered once a day with 200 mg red ginseng (RG) extract, 100 or 200 mg Sun-ginseng (SG) extract/kg body weight. Mice were given water containing 400 mg red ginseng extract, 200 or 400 mg SG/100 mL potable water. Rats were given supplements for 5 days without stress, and 5 days with restraint and electroshock stress. After final stress, stress-related behavioral changes of experimental animals were recorded and levels of blood corticosterone were measured. Mice were given supplements for 5 days through drinking water, and then fatigue related motor activity were recorded. SG-supplementation partially blocked stress effect on locomotion and elevated plus maze test in rats, and also partially blocked stress-induced behavioral changes such as freezing, burrowing, smelling, facewashing, grooming and rearing behavior in rats. SG-supplementation decreased blood corticosterone level which is increased by stress in rats. Effects of SG may not be modulated by GABAnergic nervous system. SG-supplementation prolonged swimming time and staying time on the wire and rotarod wheel in mice. These results suggest that SG partially protects living organisms from stress attack in some cases and thus has the potential to be used as a functional food to alleviate stress response.

The main aim of this study was to investigate stress related activities of ginsenosides and their action mechanism. Control group and ginsenoside supplemented groups were exposed to stress while no-stress group was not done. Animals of each group (n=$8\~10$) were orally administerd 100 mg red ginseng extract (R-G), or 10 mg ginsenosides/kg body weight once a day. Animals were given materials for 5 days without stress, and then were given supplements for 5 days with restraint and electroshock stress. Mice were given materials for 5 days for experiments on anti-fatigue effect. After loading final stress, stress-related behavioral changes of experimental animals were examined and plasma corticosterone levels were measured. R-G and ginsenoside $Rb_{1}$ supplementation partially blocked the stress effects on locomotion and elevated plus-maze test in rats and mice. They also partially blocked stress induced behavioral changes such as freezing, smelling, face-washing, rearing behavior in rats. R-G and $Rb_{1}$ decrease adrenal gland size and plasma corticosterone level, which were increased by stress in rats. R-G increased enduring time on the Rota rod, cold water and horizontal wire, but $Rb_{1}$ didn't. Effects of $Rb_{1}$ on plusmaze test were inhibited by administration of flumazenil. These results suggest that $Rb_{1}$ is the main antistress principle in ginseng and it's effect is modulated by GABAnergic nervous system.

Urea-SCR system, which converts nitrogen oxides to nitrogen and water in the presence of a reducing agent, usually AdBlue urea solution, is known as one of the powerful NOx reduction systems for mobile as well as stationary applications. For its consistent and reliable operation in mobile applications, such various problems as transient injection, ammonia slip, and freezing in cold weather have to be resolved. In this work, therefore, numerical study on three-dimensional unsteady heating problems were analyzed to understand the melting and heat transfer characteristics such as urea liquid volume fraction, temperature profiles and generated natural convection behavior in urea solution by using the commercial software Fluent 6.3. After validating by comparing numerical and experimental data with pure gallium melting phenomena, numerical experiment for urea melting is conducted with three different coolant heating models named CH1, 2, and 3, respectively. Finally, it can be found that the CH3 model, in which more coolant is concentrated on the lower part of the urea tank, has relatively better melting capability than others in terms of urea quantity of $1{\ell}$ for start-up schedule.
Concrete is cost-benefit and high-durable construction material, however durability problem can be caused due to steel corrosion under chloride attack. Recently deicing salt has been widely spread in snowing season, which accelerates micro-cracks and scaling in surface concrete and the melted deicing salt causes corrosion in embedded steel. The previous governing equation of Fick's 2nd Law cannot evaluate the deteriorated surface concrete so that another technique is needed for the surface effect. This paper presents chloride penetration analysis technique for concrete subjected to deicing salt utilizing multi-layer diffusion model and time-dependent diffusion behavior. For the work, field investigation results of concrete pavement exposed deicing salt for 18 years are adopted. Through reverse analysis, deteriorated depth and increased diffusion coefficient in the depth are evaluated, which shows 12.5~15.0mm of deteriorated depth and increased diffusion coefficient by 2.0 times. The proposed technique can be effectively applied to concrete with two different diffusion coefficients considering enhanced or deteriorated surface conditions.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the basic performance of cement mortar for repair using alumina cement and nitrite can be cured in low temperature environment. For this purpose, the repair mortar used in the domestic construction site was selected and the experimental evaluation was carried out by adjusting the mixing amount by substituting alumina cement and nitrite for the blending ratio. The experimental test results confirmed that alumina cement and nitrite were replaced with the repair mortar, the initial strength was improved. Also, the chemical resistance was improved, the shrinkage behavior was decreased, and the resistance to freezing and thawing was increased. As a result, applying alumina cement and nitrite at a ratio of 2:1 at 7.5%, the surface condition was maintained for 5 months or longer and it was judged to be excellent in practical use for external structures.
