  • In the process of optical parts machining, polishing has been applied. Traditional polishing process is suitable for spherical optical parts. But it is very difficult to apply traditional process for aspheric optical parts. Nowadays, as growing needs for aspherical optic parts, many researches have been conducted. In this study, we developed computer controlled polishing system which consists of three major parts of active pressure control for correcting polishing process, mechanical on-machine measurement for rough polishing, and optical on-machine measurement for finish polishing, respectively. In this paper, a systematic stretegy for correcting polishing process, pressure control scheme for polishing tool, and on-machine measurement methods for automated and precise polishing are suggested. The information about developed machine is also included.

  • In this paper, the polishing force monitoring and the control method were implemented for the polishing machine with the airbag tool. Airbag tool has been known to be adaptable to the curvature variation such as the aspherical and the free-form surface. However, it was necessary to control the tool movement of vertical axis also because of the table rotational wobble and vibration. To solve it by the polishing force control, we installed another stepping motor to the z-axis. And the polishing force was measured with the load cell and controlled by the PID Labview controller. A few hundreds gram of the polishing force were well controlled under 0.8 second of the response time and 5% variation. An experiment was done to clean the edge burrs of the micro channel structure of width $87{\mu}m$ using the polishing force control.

  • In this article, the problem of a two-dimensional thermoelastic half-space are studied using mathematical methods under the purview of the generalized thermoelastic theory with one relaxation time is studied. The surface of the half-space is taken to be thermally insulated and traction free. Accordingly, the variations of physical quantities due to by laser pulse given by the heat input. The nonhomogeneous governing equations have been written in the form of a vector-matrix differential equation, which is then solved by the eigenvalue approach. The analytical solutions are obtained for the temperature, the components of displacement and stresses. The resulting quantities are depicted graphically for different values of thermal relaxation time. The result provides a motivation to investigate the effect of the thermal relaxation time on the physical quantities.

  • When machining of a free-form surface with a ball endmill it is very important to select proper cutting conditions considering the geometrical shape of a workpiece to make the production more effective and reduce the machining time. Even though the same cutting conditions and materials are used, the cutting system of different geometry part machining shows the different static/dynamic characteristics. In this study, through various cutting experiments, we can construct the data base of stable cutting conditions for the machining of a Zine Alloy. We can get some relational plots between the optimal feedrates and classified shape features and parameters. On the basis of these results, we can develop the feedrate optimization program OptiCode. The developed program make it possible to reduce the cutting time and increase the machining accuracies.

  • High quality $Y_1Ba_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$ thin films have been fabricated by pulsed Nd:YAG laser deposition using an unusual 'off-axis' target-substrate geometry. Various properties of superconducting $Y_1Ba_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$ thin films have been studied systematically as a function of oxygen pressure during the deposition, in both 'on-axis' and the unusual 'off-axis' target substrate geometry. In the 'off-axis' geometry, one can completely eliminate the so-called 'laser droplets' form the thin surface and thus obtain smooth high qualify films. It is found that films with optimum structural and electrical properties are obtained at a lower oxygen pressure range during the 'off-axis' deposition when compared with that required in the 'on-axis' deposition geometry.

  • This paper presents a procedure within the framework of linear potential theory for predicting the lateral drifting forces on a cylinder floating on the free surface of a finite depth water. The disturbance of a regular incident wave caused by the presence of the floating body is represented by the sum of the diffracted and radiated wave potentials, which are determined by using Green's theorem. The lateral drifting forces are calculated by use of momentum theorem, and the scattered waves are expressed in their asymptotic forms. The computed lateral drifting forces on a Lewis form cylinder(b/T=1.25, $\sigma$=0.95) for water depth to draft ratio of 5.0 are compared with the Kyozuka's experimental results for a deep water, and found to be in good agreement. The water depth effects on drifting forces of the same model are also calculated.

  • Alkali-soluble random copolymer (ASR) was used as a functional resin in the emulsion polymerization of styrene to prepare structured nanoparticles. The calorimetric technique was applied to study the kinetics of emulsion polymerization of styrene using ASR and conventional ionic emulsifier, sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS). ASR could form aggregates like micelles and the solubilization ability of the aggregates was dependent on the neutralization degree of ASR. The rate of polymerization in ASR system was lower than that in SDBS system. This result can be explained by the creation of a hairy ASR layer around the particle surface, which decreases the diffusion rate of free radicals through this region. Although a decrease in particle size was observed, the rate of polymerization decreased with increasing ASR concentration. The higher the concentration of ASR is, the thicker and denser ASR layer may be, and the more difficult it would therefore be for radicals to reach the particle through this layer of ASR. The rate of polymerization decreased with increasing the neutralization degree of ASR. The aggregates with high neutralization of ASR are less efficient in solubilizing the monomer and capturing initiator radicals than that of the lower neutralization degree, which leads to decrease in rate of polymerization.

  • A modeling of a hydraulic-gun-aerator is proposed to set up a design procedure for such devices. The aerators are used to destroy any thermal stratification that are responsible for the degradation of water qualify of lakes. The aerator produces ascending flow by using air bubbies released instantly near the bottom of the lake into a cylindrical pipe installed vertically. Differently form the diffuser-aerators, they can pull up the cold, oxygen depleted water directly to the region of the free surface, and they are believed to work effectively especially for relatively deeper lakes. Their design procedure has not been established yet though, and we propose a model focusing on the exit flow velocity at the top of the aerator through the examination of presently operating devices.

  • Visualization of 2D and 3D data, which arises from some scientific phenomena, physical model or mathematical formula, in the form of curve or surface view is one of the important topics in Computer Graphics. The problem gets critically important when data possesses some inherent shape feature. For example, it may have positive feature in one instance and monotone in the other. This paper is concerned with the solution of similar problems when data has convex shape and its visualization is required to have similar inherent features to that of data. A rational cubic function [5] has been used for the review of visualization of 2D data. After that it has been generalized for the visualization of 3D data. Moreover, simple sufficient constraints are made on the free parameters in the description of rational bicubic functions to visualize the 3D convex data in the view of convex surfaces.
