In this paper an efficient and simple refined shear deformation theory is presented for the free vibration of Functionally Graded Plates Under Various Boundary Conditions. The theory accounts for a quadratic variation of the transverse shear strains across the thickness, and satisfies the zero traction boundary conditions on the top and bottom surfaces of the plate without using shear correction factors. The number of independent unknowns of present theory is four, as against five in other shear deformation theories. The plates are considered of the type having two opposite sides simply-supported, and the two other sides having combinations of simply-supported, clamped, and free boundary conditions. The mechanical properties of functionally graded material are assumed to vary according to power law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituents. Equations of motion are derived using Hamilton's principle. The results of this theory are compared with those of other shear deformation theories. Various numerical results including the effect of boundary conditions, power-law index, plate aspect ratio, and side-to-thickness ratio on the free vibration of FGM plates are presented.

For free vibration of monosymmetric thin-walled circular arches including restrained warping effect, the elastic strain and kinetic energy is derived by introducing displacement fields of circular arches in which all displacement parameters are defined at the centroid axis. The cubic Hermitian polynomials are utilized as shape functions for development of the curved thin-walled beam element having eight degrees of freedom. Analytical solution for free vibration behaviors of simply supported thin-walled curved beam element is presented by evaluating elastic stiffness and mass matrices. In order to illustrate the accuracy and practical usefulness of this study, analytical and numerical solutions for free vibration of circular arches are presented and compared with solutions analyzed by the FEM using straight beam element.

A new meshless method for obtaining natural frequencies of arbitrarily shaped plates with the free boundary condition is introduced in the paper. In order to improve the characteristics of convergence and accuracy of the method, a special local polar coordinates system is devised and located for each of nodes distributed along the boundary of the plate of interest. In addition, a new way of decreasing the size of the system matrix that gives natural frequencies of the plate is employed to reduce the amount of numerical calculations, which is needed for computing the determinant of the system matrix. Finally the excellence of the characteristics of convergence and accuracy of the method is shown in several case studies, which indicate that natural frequencies by the proposed method are very accurate and converged swiftly to exact values as the number of boundary nodes increases.
The object of this paper is to investigate the free vibration behavior under the effect of carbon nanotube distribution in functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composite (FG-CNTRC) by using higher-order shear deformation theories. In this work, we present a novel distribution method for carbon nanotubes in the polymer matrix by using a new exponential power law distribution of carbon nanotube volume fraction. It is assumed that the SWCNTs are aligned along the beam axial direction and the distribution of the SWCNTs may vary through the thickness of the beam with different patterns of reinforcement. The rule of mixtures is used in order to obtain material properties of the CNTRC beams. Hamilton's principle is used in deriving the equations of motion. The validity of the free Vibration results is examined by comparing them with those of the known data in the literature. The results that obtained indicate that the carbon nanotube volume fraction distribution play a very important role on the free vibrations characteristics of the CNTRC beam.

When constructing highly precise production plants, for example, super LSI plants or semiconductor plants, it is important to take the necessary control countermeasures into consideration to obtain the working microvibration environment, which is directly related to product precision. Working environment of a clean room means vibration-free and there are only ultra-miro vibration which human cannot sense. In order to provide an place having a vibration-free working environment with only ultra-micro vibration it is necessary to posses a great number of vibration isolation technlogies, wide-ranging and abundant survey and teat data, and a high level of knowledge enabling comprehensive judgments to be made. In this study, experimental modal analysis is used to analyze the dynamic characteristics of double floor for vibration-proofing near apparatus which generate vibration. It is concluded that the double floor system with rubber pad inserted between floor panel and pedestal is good for vibration proof.
Free Vibration Analysis using Non-dimensional Dynamic Influence Function (NDIF) is extended to arbitrarily shaped plates including polygonal plates. Since the corners of polygonal plates have indefinite normal directions and additional boundary conditions related to a twisting moment at a corner along with moment and shear force zero conditions, it is not easy to apply the NDIF method to polygonal plates wi th the free boundary condition. Moreover, owing to the fact that the local polar coordinate system, which has been introduced for free plates with smoothly varying edges, cannot be employed for the straight edges of the polygonal plates, a new coordinate system is required for the polygonal plates. These problems are solved by developing the new method of modifying a corner into a circular arc and setting the normal direction at the corner to an average value of normal direct ions of two edges adjacent to the corner. Some case studies for plates with various shapes show that the proposed method gives credible natural frequencies and mode shapes for various polygons that agree well with those by an exact method or FEM (ANSYS).
A coupled method, that combines the Ritz method and the finite element (FE) method, is proposed to solve the vibration problem of rectangular thin and thick plates with general boundary conditions. The eigenvalue partial differential equation(s) of the plate is (are) first reduced to a set of eigenvalue ordinary differential equations by the application of the Ritz method. The resulting eigenvalue differential equations are then reduced to an eigenvalue algebraic equation system using the finite element method. The natural boundary conditions of the plate problem including the free edge and free corner boundary conditions are also implemented in a simple and accurate manner. Various boundary conditions including simply supported, clamped and free boundary conditions are considered. Comparisons with existing numerical and analytical solutions show that the proposed mixed method can produce highly accurate results for the problems considered using a small number of Ritz terms and finite elements. The proposed mixed Ritz-FE formulation is also compared with the mixed FE-Ritz formulation which has been recently proposed by the present author and his co-author. It is found that the proposed mixed Ritz-FE formulation is more efficient than the mixed FE-Ritz formulation for free vibration analysis of rectangular plates with Levy-type boundary conditions.
In this present paper, a semi-analytical mesh-free method is employed for the three-dimensional free vibration analysis of a bi-directional functionally graded piezoelectric circular structure. The dependent variables have been expanded by Fourier series with respect to the circumferential direction and have been discretized through radial and axial directions based on the mesh-free shape function. The current approach has a distinct advantage. The nonlinear Green-Lagrange strain is employed as the relationship between strain and displacement fields to observe thermal impacts in stiffness matrices. Nevertheless, high order terms have been neglected at the final steps of equations driving. The material properties are assumed to vary continuously in both radial and axial directions simultaneously in accordance with a power law distribution. The convergence and validation studies are conducted by comparing our proposed solution with available published results to investigate the accuracy and efficiency of our approach. After the validation study, a parametric study is undertaken to investigate the temperature effects, different types of polarization, mechanical and electric boundary conditions and geometry parameters of structures on the natural frequencies of functionally graded piezoelectric circular structures.
Elastic constraints are usually simplified as "spring forces" exerted on beam ends without considering the "spring deformation". The partial differential equation governing the free vibrations of a cantilever Bernoulli-Euler beam considering the deformation of elastic constraints is firstly established, and is nondimensionalized to obtain two dimensionless factors, $k_v$ and $k_r$, describing the effects of elastically vertical and rotational end constraints, respectively. Then the frequency equation for the above Bernoulli-Euler beam model is derived using the method of separation of variables. A numerical analysis method is proposed to solve the transcendental frequency equation for the continuous change of the frequency with $k_v$ and $k_r$. Then the mode shape functions are given. Finally, effects of $k_v$ and $k_r$ on free vibration characteristics of the beam with different slenderness ratios are calculated and analyzed. The results indicate that the effects of $k_v$ are larger on higher-order free vibration characteristics than on lower-order ones, and the impact strength decreases with slenderness ratio. Under a relatively larger slenderness ratio, the effects of $k_v$ can be neglected for the fundamental frequency characteristics, while cannot for higher-order ones. However, the effects of $k_r$ are large on both higher- and lower-order free vibration characteristics, and cannot be neglected no matter the slenderness ratio is large or small.
In this study, the authors investigate the free vibration behavior of three-phases functionally graded sandwich plates using a novel nth-order shear deformation theory. These plates are composed of a homogeneous core and two face-sheet layers made of different functionally graded materials. This is the novel type of the sandwich structures that can be applied in many fields of mechanical engineering and industrial. The proposed theory only requires four unknown displacement functions, and the transverse displacement does not need to be separated into bending and shear parts, simplifying the theory. One noteworthy feature of the proposed theory is its ability to capture the parabolic distribution of transverse shear strains and stresses throughout the plate's thickness while ensuring zero values on the two free surfaces. By eliminating the need for shear correction factors, the theory further enhances computational efficiency. Equations of motion are established using Hamilton's principle and solved via Navier's solution. The accuracy and efficiency of the proposed theory are verified by comparing results with available solutions. The authors then use the proposed theory to investigate the free vibration characteristics of three-phases functionally graded sandwich plates, considering the effects of parameters such as aspect ratio, side-to-thickness ratio, skin-core-skin thicknesses, and power-law indexes. Through careful analysis of the free vibration behavior of three-phases functionally graded sandwich plates, the work highlighted the significant roles played by individual material ingredients in influencing their frequencies.
