드라이쿨러를 적용한 외기냉수냉방 시스템 설계에 관한 연구 (A study on design for free cooling system using dry cooler)

  • 외기냉수냉방 시스템은 공조나 산업공정에 사용되는 냉수를 저온의 외기를 이용하여 냉각하는 시스템으로 에너지를 절감하기위해 사용되며, 냉각시스템과 외기와 냉수가 열교환을 하는 드라이쿨러로 구성되어있다. 외기냉수냉방 시스템은 지속적인 냉방이 필요한 곳에 에너지절감효과가 뛰어나나 국내의 경우, 외기냉수냉방 시스템에 설계 기준과 자료가 미비하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 상용프로그램 HYSYS를 이용하여, 드라이쿨러를 이용한 외기냉수냉방 시스템의 요소변화에 따른 성능을 비교 분석했으며 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 드라이쿨러의 냉각능력은 외기온도, 요구냉수온도, 열교환기의 LMTD (Logarithmic Mean Temperature Difference, 대수평균온도차)에 따라 변한다. 드라이쿨러는 외기온도가 낮을 수록 그 냉각능력이 증가하며, LMTD가 낮은 드라이쿨러가 LMTD가 높은 것에 비하여 고온의 외기온도에서 사용이 가능하였다. 외기온도가 극히 낮은 지역에서는 글리콜이 함유된 부동액을 사용해야하며 국내의 외기온도를 고려하였을 때, 글리콜농도 34%의 부동액이 적절한 것으로 판단된다. 냉동기에 적용될 작동유체의 경우, R22, R134a, R407C의 압축일을 비교했으며, R134a가 환경관련 규제와 에너지 사용측면에서 우수한 냉매로 사료된다.

Vibration analysis of free-fixed hyperbolic cooling tower shells

  • A three-dimensional (3-D) method of analysis is presented for determining the free vibration frequencies of hyperboloidal shells free at the top edge and clamped at the bottom edge like a hyperboloidal cooling tower by the Ritz method based upon the circular cylindrical coordinate system instead of related 3-D shell coordinates which are normal and tangent to the shell midsurface. The Legendre polynomials are used as admissible displacements. Convergence to four-digit exactitude is demonstrated. Natural frequencies from the present 3-D analysis are also compared with those of straight beams with circular cross section, complete (not truncated) conical shells, and circular cylindrical shells as special cases of hyperboloidal shells from the classical beam theory, 2-D thin shell theory, and other 3-D methods.

LED 조명용 히트싱크 방열기 설계를 위한 냉각성능 평가 (Evaluation on the Cooling Performance to Design Heat sinks for LED lightings)

  • In comparison with some other light sources, LED has merits such as increased life expectancy, fast response, pollution free, and high energy efficiency. Lately, due to development of LED with high brightness and capacity, LED has widely used in many industrial fields such as automotive, aviation, display, transportation and special lighting applications. Since the high heat generation of LED chips can cause a reduction in lifetime, degradation of luminous efficiency, and variation of color temperature, studies have been carried out on the optimization of LED packaging and heat sinks. In this study, experiments on measuring the heat generation rate of LED and the cooling performance of a heat sink were carried for analyzing the thermal characteristics of LED lighting system in free convection. From the results, dimensionless correlation on the cooling performance of heat sink in natural convection was proposed with Nusselt number and Rayleigh number as a guideline for designing cooling device of LED lightings.

자유유동 난류강도와 분사비가 터빈 블레이드 선단 막냉각 특성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Free-Stream Turbulence Intensity and Blowing Ratio on Film Cooling of Turbine Blade Leading Edge)

  • We used a cylindrical model which simulates turbine blade leading edge to investigate the effects of free-stream turbulence intensity and blowing ratio on film cooling of turbine blade leading edge. Tests are carried out in a low-speed wind tunnel on a cylindrical model with three rows of injection holes. Mainstream Reynolds number based on the cylinder diameter was $7.1\times10^4$. Two types of turbulence grid are used to increase a free-stream turbulence intensity. The effect of coolant blowing ratio was studied for various blowing ratios. For each blowing ratios, wall temperatures around the surface of the test model are measured by thermocouples installed inside the model. Results show that blowing ratios have small effect on spanwise-averaged film effectiveness at high free-stream turbulence intensity. However, an increase in free-stream turbulence intensity enhances significantly spanwise-averaged film effectiveness at low blowing ratio.

  • A free piston and free displacer(FPFD) Stirling cryocooler for cooling infrared and cryo-sensors is currently under development at KIMM(Korea Institute of Machinery & Materials). Our coolers are specifically designed to work in the thermal imaging device and to meet requirements such as cooling capacity, COP and high reliability. In this work, Stirling cryocooler is designed, manufactured and fabricated, and performance characteristics are investigated. This cooler delivers approximately 0.5W cooling at 77K for 30W ∼ 40W of input power from AC power supply. And, after the climate performance and reliability for the cryocooler is discussed, operating test without cooling load at the cold end is performed.

  • Trouble-free operation of cooling water systems is essential for efficient pro¬duction in most industrial facilities. Improper water treatments frequently cause such problems as corrosion, scaling, fouling and slime formation. Water quality, methods of cooling and materials of construction in the cooling circuit should be carefully studied before making selection of the water treatment programs. This paper reviewed cooling water problems encountered frequently in the open recirculating cooling systems and discussed the counter measures how to cope with them.

주유동의 난류강도가 막냉각홀 주위의 열/물질전달 특성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Free Stream Turbulence Intensity on Heat/Mass Transfer Characteristics Around a Film Cooling Hole)

  • 본 논문에서는 주유동의 난류강도 변화에 따른 복합각도로 분사되는 단일 막냉각홀 주위에서의 국소 열/물질전달계수 특성을 살펴보기 위하여 실험을 수행하였다. 단일 막냉각홀 시편은 평면에 대하여 $30^{\cire}$의 경사각을 가지고 있으며, 횡방향으로는 주유동에 대해 $45^{\cire}$의 각도로 분사하여 복합각도 분사시 주유동의 난류강도 변화에 따른 효과를 살펴보았다. 또한 막냉각제트의 분사율을 0.5에서 2.0까지 변화시켜가며, 주유동의 높은 난류강도조건에서 분사율 변화시 막냉각홀 주위의 열/물질전달특성에 미치는 효과를 살펴보았다. 주유동의 난류강도를 변화시키기 위하여 막냉각홀 상류에 난류발생격자를 설치하였다. 격자를 설치하지 않은 경우, 주유동의 난류강도는 0.5%이며, 난류발생격자의 종류 및 설치위치를 달리하여 난류강도를 3%에서 10%까지 변화시켜가며 실험하였다. 막냉각홀 주위에서 국소적인 열/물질전달계수 값을 얻기 위하여 물질전달 실험방법인 나프탈렌 승화법을 사용하였다. 주유동의 난류강도가 낮은 경우 분사홀 주변에서 막냉각제트 혹은 주유동에 의한 열/물질전달 촉진영역이 뚜렷한 경계를 갖지만, 난류강도가 증가하면서 전 영역에 걸쳐 열/물질전달이 촉진되었으며 주유동과 막냉각제트의 활발한 혼합작용으로 인해 영역의 구분이 점차 소멸되었다. 또한 주유동의 높은 난류강도 효과는 막냉각제트의 분사율이 높은 경우 뚜렷이 나타났다.

  • A Stirling cryocooler is relatively compact, reliable, commercially available, and uses helium as a working fluid. The FPFD stirling cryocooler consists of two compressor pistons driven by linear motors which makes pressure waves and a pneumatically driven displacer piston with regenerator. A free piston and free displacer(FPFD) Stirling cryocooler for cooling infrared and cryo-sensors is currently under development at KIMM(Korea Institute of Machinery & Materials). In order to evaluate the feasibility of using a linear motor driving cryocooler, prototype Stirling cryocooler with a nominal cooling capacity of 0.5W at 80K was designed, fabricated and tested. The prototype has achieved no load temperature of 51K and cooling power of 0.33W.

  • In this study, we analyzed the three dimensional unsteady flow field around the motor cooling fan using the unsteady lifting surface theory. We obtained the flow rate for various geometries of fan from the calculated results of velocity field. For the data of design parameter and rotating speed(rpm) of the fan, we can predict the flow rate of the motor cooling fan with thin thickness through numerical analysis without the experimental data of the free stream velocity which is a boundary condition of flow field. the numerical results showed the flow rate within 10% of error in comparison with experimental results. The radial fans, which are often used as internal motor fan were also investigated with the same procedure.

  • This paper presents the results of a series of performance tests for the Stilting cryocooler. A free piston and free displacer(FPFD) Stilting cryocooler for cooling infrared and cryo-sensors is currently under development at KIMM. Our coolers are specifically designed to work in the thermal imaging device and to meet requirements such as cooling capacity, COP and high reliability. In this work, Stilting cryocooler is designed, manufactured and fabricated, and performance characteristics for the cooling capacity / applied input power and cool down time are investigated. This cooler delivers approximately 0.9W cooling at 80K for 30W ~ 40W of input power. And, It takes approximately 2 minutes to cool down to 80K at the ambient temperature of 23$^{\circ}C$.
