  • Today's architectural design trend based on the recognition of pluralism has led to multiple design directions for all building types including tall buildings. This contemporary design trend has produced many complex-shaped tall buildings, such as twisted, tilted, tapered and freeform towers. Among many different structural systems developed for tall buildings, the diagrid system, with its powerful structural rationale and distinguished aesthetic potential, is one of the most widely used systems for today's tall buildings. This paper studies structural performance of diagrid systems employed for complex-shaped tall buildings. Twisted, tilted, tapered and freeform tall buildings are designed with diagrid structures, and their structural performances are investigated. For the twisted diagrid study, the buildings are twisted up to 3 degrees per floor. In the tilted diagrid study, the angles of tilting range from 0 to 13 degrees. The impact of eccentricity is investigated for gravity as well as lateral loads in tilted towers. In the study of tapered diagrid structures, the angles of tapering range from 0 to 3 degrees. In the study of freeform diagrid structures, lateral stiffness of freeform diagrids is evaluated depending on the degree of fluctuation of free form. The freeform floor plans fluctuate from plus/minus 1.5 meter to plus/minus 4.5 meter boundaries of the original square floor plan. Parametric structural models are generated using appropriate computer programs and the models are exported to structural engineering software for design, analyses and comparative studies.

  • It requires more close cooperation process and mediator for smooth communication in this industry structure where design and engineers are separated. The database of design integrates separate system and helps connection between organizations. The application category is utilized variously from formation to operation. Architectures addressed in this content as Frank Gehry and Nox are making differentiated design on the base of 3d digital methodology and using it widely from generation to fabrication. Especially they got to be free from the generative limit as it became available to analyse, digital surface organization, and realize the complex system form. Now more integrated and delicate works got to be affordable owing to various kinds of improved CNC, RP(rapid-prototype) machines, and architecture hardwares. With a linkage of software now at their disposal, architects can create a digital model of a building and all of its design elements, and in turn use this 3d information to construct actual building components using machines driven by CNC and other advanced manufacturing techniques. Digital technologies are enabling a direct correlation between what design and construction, thus bringing to the forefront the issue of the significance of information, the production, communication, application, and control of digital information in the industrial system. The central requirement is the clear, reliable, and consistent exchange of information among all parties involved in creating a given project.

  • In this paper, cantilevered tall structures are treated as cantilever bars with varying cross-section for the analysis of their free longitudinal (or axial) vibrations. Using appropriate transformations, exact analytical solutions to determine the longitudinal natural frequencies and mode shapes for a one step non-uniform bar are derived by selecting suitable expressions, such as exponential functions, for the distributions of mass and axial stiffness. The frequency equation of a multi-step bar is established using the approach that combines the transfer matrix procedure or the recurrence formula and the closed-form solutions of one step bars, leading to a single frequency equation for any number of steps. The Ritz method is also applied to determine the natural frequencies and mode shapes in the vertical direction for cantilevered tall structures with variably distributed stiffness and mass. The formulae proposed in this paper are simple and convenient for engineering applications. Numerical example shows that the fundamental longitudinal natural frequency and mode shape of a 27-storey building determined by the proposed methods are in good agreement with the corresponding measured data. It is also shown that the selected expressions are suitable for describing the distributions of axial stiffness and mass of typical tall buildings.

  • Recently, Free-Form and Irregular Shape high-rise buildings are constructed by IT technology development. Tilted shaped high-rise building which is one of Irregular shape high-rise buildings can cause lateral displacement by gravity load and lateral load due to tilted elevation shape. Therefore, it is necessary to review the behavior and structural aspects of the Tilted shape high-rise building by gravity load. In this paper, the dynamic characteristics of a tilted structure with a dual-core were analyzed with the core location as a design variable, and response behavior, vulnerable members, and vulnerable layers to earthquake loads were analyzed. As a result of the analysis, as the location of the core moved in an tilted direction, the eccentric distance and eccentric load decreased, reducing the axial force of the vertical members. However, the location of the core had little effect on the response.

  • As Large Language Models (LLM) like OpenAI's ChatGPT[1] continue to grow in popularity, new applications and services are expected to emerge. This paper introduces an experimental study on a smart web-builder application assistance system that combines Computer Vision with GUI object recognition and the ChatGPT (LLM). First of all, the research strategy employed computer vision technology in conjunction with Microsoft's "ChatGPT for Robotics: Design Principles and Model Abilities"[2] design strategy. Additionally, this research explores the capabilities of Large Language Model like ChatGPT in various application design tasks, specifically in assisting with web-builder tasks. The study examines the ability of ChatGPT to synthesize code through both directed prompts and free-form conversation strategies. The researchers also explored ChatGPT's ability to perform various tasks within the builder domain, including functions and closure loop inferences, basic logical and mathematical reasoning. Overall, this research proposes an efficient way to perform various application system tasks by combining natural language commands with computer vision technology and LLM (ChatGPT). This approach allows for user interaction through natural language commands while building applications.

  • A formula to approximate the fundamental period of a fixed-free mass-spring system with varying mass and varying stiffness is formulated. The formula is derived mainly by taking the dominant parts from the general form of the characteristic polynomial, and adjusting the initial approximation by a coefficient derived from the exact solution of a uniform case. The formula is tested for a large number of randomly generated structures, and the results show that the approximated fundamental periods are within the error range of 4% with 90% of confidence. Also, the error is shown to be normally distributed with zero mean, and the width of the distribution (as measured by the standard deviation) tends to decrease as the total number of discretized elements in the system increases. Other possible extensions of the formula are discussed, including an extension to a continuous cantilever structure with distributed mass and stiffness. The suggested formula provides an efficient way to estimate the fundamental period of building structures and other systems that can be modeled as mass-spring systems.

  • Most of Rapid Prototyping (RP) process adopt a solid Computer Aided Design (CAD) model, slicing into thin layers of uniform, but not necessarily constant, thickness in the building direction. Each cross-sectional layer is successive1y deposited and at the same time, bonded onto the previous layers; the stacked layers form a physical part of the model. The objective of this study is to develop a method for calculating the rotation angle ($$\theta$_x, $\theta$_y$) of hotwire of the cutting system in the three-dimensional space for the Variable Lamination Manufacturing process using expandable polystyrene foam sheet (VLM-S). In order to examine the applicability of the developed method to VLM-S, various three-dimensional shapes. such as a screw, an extruded cross, and free surface bodies such as miniatures of the monkey(a figure of Sonokong), were made using the data obtained form the method.

  • In the production of semiconductor wafer, optical and electron microscopes, ion-beam, laser device must maintain their alignments within a sub-micrometer. This equipment requires a vibration free environment to provide its proper function. Especially, lithography and inspection devices, which have sub-nanometer class high accuracy and resolution, have come to necessity for producing more improved giga and tera class semiconductor wafers. This high technology equipments require very strict environmental vibration standard, vibration criteria, in proportion to the accuracy of the manufacturing, inspecting devices. The vibration criteria of high sensitive equipment should be represented in the form of exactness and accuracy, because this is used as basic data for the design of building structure and structural dynamics of equipment. The study on the evaluation of the factors affecting the permissible vibration criteria is required to design the efficient isolation system of the semiconductor manufacturing of equipment. This paper deals with the properties of the effected factor for vibration criteria of high sensitive equipment.

  • The diagrid structural system is considered to be not only the best structural system for constructing free form structures, but also a very effective system in resisting lateral load. As a newly investigated structural system, its complicated node has not yet been completely investigated and minimal experimentation of manufacturing and constructing the system have been conducted. Therefore, the constructing cost of the diagrid structural system is still comparatively high. In this paper, the cyclic performance of a diagrid node with an H-section brace will be discussed. Design details that consider productivity were proposed and their structural performances were assessed through experimental and analytical investigation.
