  • To clarify the cause of backfire occurrence and realize a hydrogen fueled engine linear alternator system, dynamic characteristics of a free-piston hydrogen engine were analyzed and compared with those of conventional reciprocating engines. It was found that the mean velocity and acceleration of a free-piston engine were higher than those of reciprocating engines. Piston displacement and compression ratio were varied with the change of the fuel mass flow rate. Therefore, the operational stability and controllability were the most important thinks of the development of a free-piston hydrogen engine.

  • Any mechanical system has a natural oscillation which can be excited, and the earth is no exception. The earth can oscillate in an indefinite number of normal modes of oscillation, rather like a giant bell. The various free modes are generally sparated into two categoridal modes and toroidal modes. Clearly the toroidal modes will produce no perturvation of the gravity field and no vertical acceleration on the surface of the earth. Hence only spheroidal modes can be detected with a gravimeter. EarthTide gravimeter was installed at AIMST in order to observe free modes of the earth. Eight major earthquakes including chinese earthquake (magnitude 7.3) with free oscillations of the earth are observed during one year (1998. 8. 1∼1999.7.31). And then the earth tides components were eilminated from earthquake records using a numerical Butterworth highpass filter. Spectral analysis of gravity readings repersent that 48 observations of shheroidal modes. The relationships between instrumental observations and theoretical predictions based on the Gutenberg earth model agree well those resulting from free oscillation in Korea.

  • Nonthermal radiation from supernova remnants (SNRs) provides observational evidence and constraints on the diffusive shock acceleration (DSA) hypothesis for the origins of Galactic cosmic rays (CRs). Recently it has been recognized that a variety of plasma wave-particle interactions operate at astrophysical shocks and the detailed outcomes of DSA are governed by their complex and nonlinear interrelationships. Here we calculate the energy spectra of CR protons and electrons accelerated at Type Ia SNRs, using time-dependent, DSA simulations with phenomenological models for magnetic field amplification due to CR streaming instabilities, Alf$\acute{e}$enic drift, and free escape boundary. We show that, if scattering centers drift with the Alf$\acute{e}$en speed in the amplified magnetic fields, the CR energy spectrum is steepened and the acceleration efficiency is significantly reduced at strong CR modified SNR shocks. Even with fast Afv$\acute{e}$nic drift, DSA can still be efficient enough to develop a substantial shock precursor due to CR pressure feedback and convert about 20-30% of the SN explosion energy into CRs. Since the high energy end of the CR proton spectrum is composed of the particles that are injected in the early stages, in order to predict nonthermal emissions, especially in X-ray and ${\gamma}-ray$ bands, it is important to follow the time dependent evolution of the shock dynamics, CR injection process, magnetic field amplification, and particle escape. Thus it is crucial to understand the details of these plasma interactions associated with collisionless shocks in successful modeling of nonlinear DSA.

  • The structures of concern in this study are subject to two types of forces: dead loads from the acceleration imposed on the structures as well as the installed operation machines and the additional adjustable forces. We wish to determine the critical values of the adjustable forces when buckling of the structures occurs. The mathematical statement of such a problem gives rise to a constrained eigenvalue problem (CEVP) in which the dominant eigenvalue is subject to an equality constraint. A numerical algorithm for solving the CEVP is proposed in which an iterative method is employed to identify an interval embracing the target eigenvalue. The algorithm is applied to four engineering application examples finding the critical loads of a fixed-free beam subject to its own body force, two plane structures and one wide-flange beam using shell elements when acceleration force is present. The accuracy is demonstrated using the first example whose classical solution exists. The significance of the equality constraint in the EVP is shown by comparing the solutions without the constraint on the eigenvalue. Effectiveness and accuracy of the numerical algorithm are presented.

  • Generally, interlayer noise is measured in decibels (A) in terms of free field. In this paper, we propose a measurement method of interlayer vibration acceleration in the diffusion field perspective. The proposed method can represent a vibration-embodied formula similar to the sensitivity of earthquake intensity when the natural vibration of apartment house is measured by acceleration with its average value of $20mm/s^2$ represented by an the geometric progression of radix. Based on this theory, this paper proposes a method to show the optimal user experience (UX) by applying the interlayer vibration acceleration of the epicenter to the system of human - computer interaction (HCI).

  • This paper describes a numerical modeling for deflection calculation using the natural frequency response that is measured acceleration response for concrete bridges. In the formulation of the dynamic deflection, the change amounts and the transformed responses about six kinds of free vibration responses are defined totally. The predicted response can be obtained from the measured acceleration data without requiring the knowledge of the initial velocity and displacement information. The relationship between the predicted response and the actual deflection is derived using the mathematical modeling that is induced by the process of a acceleration test data. In this study, in order to apply the proposed response predicted model to the integration scheme of the natural frequency domain, the Fourier Fast Transform of the deflection response is separated into the frequency component of the measured data. The feasibility for field application of the proposed calculation method is tested by the mode superposition method using the PSC-I bridges superstructures under several cases of moving load and results are compared with the actually measured deflections using transducers. It has been observed that the proposed method can asses the deflection responses successfully when the measured acceleration signals include the vehicle loading state and the free vibration behavior.

  • It is a research that free floating larva of Ruditapes philippinarum in compliance with infiltration flow of tidal accumulation and bottom-clinging system in high density also, It is a precondition this for the continuous augmentation of Ruditapes philippinarum resources. So in flow field of tidal the free floating larva produced the infiltration water tank that can possibly bottom-clinging and experiment the water tank which uses free floating larva, It evaluates that the acceleration effect of free floating larva by infiltration in objective. As a result, 1) The experiment on free floating larva's bottom sediment grain diameter came to be high recording as bottom-clinging rate at the static water field and even biologically it selects bottom-clinging substrate it will be able to confirm. 2) About occurrence of infiltration flow field is in case of that: the drift of a current 10cm/s, bottom sediment grain 1.21mm infiltration flow 0.3cm/s increase of 3~5 times was confirmed. 3) From free floating larva of Ruditapes philippinarum the choice of bottom sediment grain diameter depends in the biological factor and form the flow field the bottom-clinging acceleration effect was controled over physical stable condition. 4) In case of density of Ruditapes philippinarum free floating larva of sea area, bottom sediment grain diameter, flow condition which are very cleanly in the research that possibly could conjecture the free floating larva's bottom-clinging rate.

  • ELT(Emergency Locator Transmitter) is used to send distress signal in the event of an aircraft crash. It is very useful but the ELT may transmit wrong signal caused by misjudging between crash and hard-landing. The reason of this problem is the low accuracy of the mechanical G-switch currently in use. To improve the ELT, we developed an ELT system using the MEMS(Micro Electro-Mechanical Sensor) accelerometer. The ELT system consists of acceleration data acquisition/analysis system, program of crash recognition, and GPS receiving system for the position information of an aircraft crash site. A free-drop table was developed for verification of the ELT system. The free-drop table was designed to replicate the acceleration and the pulse duration of the hard landing and the crash. By using the free-drop table, we showed that the ELT system performed well.

  • The present study describes a numerical analysis for simulation of the sloshing of flows with free-surface which contained in a rectangular tank moving in harmonic or pitching motion. The VOF function, representing the volume fraction of a cell occupied by the fluid, is calculated for each cells, which gives the location of the free-surface filling any some fraction of cells with fluid. The time-dependent changes of free-surface height are used for visualization subject to several conditions such as fluid height, horizontal acceleration, sinusoidal motion, and viscosity. The free-surface heights were used for comparing wall-force, which is caused by sloshing of flows. Damping effects by baffles were extensively investigated for various conditions in terms of baffle shape and position.
