  • The relationship of mind and body has stimulated extensive discussion for a long time. However, answers are ambigous and not forthcoming yet. Meanwhile, after the western medicine had embraced materialistic paradigm, conditions which cannot be substantiated by organic change were pushed out to periphery under the banner of "Medically Unexplained Symptoms". Medical experts endeavored to understand these mysterious illnesses based on the mind-body relationship and provided a frame of interpretation called Psychosomatic Medicine. This frame of interpretation had influenced not only the communication practice but also the health-seeking behavior and even the subjective experience of patients regarding their illnesses. The frame of interpretation had been drastically changed many times keeping pace with the socio-economic situation and the new scientific discoveries. Accordingly, body or mind was given differential importance by medical experts. For instance, when treatment modalities were lacking, mind was given excessive importance and patients were blamed for their unconscious motives, characterological weaknesses and for their lack of responsibility. In contrast, after the discovery of effective drug, mind was given no more attention and patients were no longer blamed for their contribution to suffering. In this paper, the historical change of the frame of interpretation for understanding migraine and headache was presented as an example. By this, it can be demonstrated how the frame of interpretation has modified the subjective experience of patients, and how the patients' responsibilities were viewed differently. This observation can help to realize the enormous influence of the frame of interpretation provided by medical experts.

  • A kart is a vehicle without the suspension system and the differential gear. The kart frame as an elastic body plays the role of a spring. By the cornering of a kart, rolling, pitching and twisting motions are induced in the kart frame. Also the slip or noncontact of the wheel and a permanent deformation of the kart frame can be induced. In order to examine closely this phenomenon, measurement on height-displacements with various sensors and tracking system and analysis on the kart frame twisting characteristics with the rolling and pitching angle are needed. According to the measurement result, while driving in a curve at high speed the kart frame is quite twisted. Analysis on the measurement results shows that a kart used primarily in high speed requires a frame with low torsional stiffness and a frame material with high tensile strength and large elongation.

  • In this paper we propose a human body tracking method for application of smartphones. The conventional human body tracking method is divided into a sensor-based method and a vision-based method. The sensor-based methods have a weakness in that tracking accuracy is low due to cumulative error of position information. The vision-based method has no cumulative error, but it requires reduction of the computational complexity for application of smartphone. In this paper we use the improved HOG algorithm as a human body tracking method for application of smartphone. The improved HOG algorithm is implemented through downsampling and frame sampling. Gaussian pyramid is applied for downsampling, and uniform sampling is applied for frame sampling. We measured the proposed algorithm on two devices, four resolutions, and four frame sampling intervals. We derive the best detection rate among downsampling and frame sampling parameters that can be applied in realtime.

  • This study aims to improve the dynamic stiffness of an inspection robot frame to prevent derailment from transmission lines. Finite element models for the transmission lines and robot frame are developed for the multi-body dynamic simulation. Natural frequency analysis was conducted using the FE models. Three types of spacer damper clamps installed on 4-conductor transmission lines are used to evaluate the derailment of the robot. Multi-body dynamic simulations with FE models are demonstrated for sub-span oscillation. When the robot operates, derailment of inspection robot from the transmission lines is determined because of resonance. To prevent the resonance, body position was changed and thickness optimization was conducted. The results show that derailment was not occurred because of the natural frequency improvement.

  • The purpose of this study is to know the change of somatic characteristics according to the time. To find out the change of body type of the early twenties who were in 1990 and 1999, the anthropometric and the photographic measurements of the two periods were compared respectively. T-test was applied and the figure of body frame and lateral body type were analyzed. By comparing the anthropomentric measurements of 1999 with 1990, it was known that the proportion of lower half of body increased and the legs and arms became longer. The shape of bust was slightly centered and the angle of shoulder decreased. From the analysis of the photographic measurements and the comparison the body type of 1999 with that of 1990, the tendency of change in upper body was to bend backward and the ratio of straight type increased in 1999.

  • In this paper, we applied composite material of high specific stiffness and strength to the fabrication of a folding wheelchair frame for the replacement of conventional metal wheelchair frames. A one-body composite frame was designed and the finite element analysis was performed on this design. Some specimens of joint parts were manufactured and strength test was done. With the results of analysis and test, some modification was done and a prototype was produced.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the general process from textile design till fashion design and to understand the relation between the body structure by using the x-ray technique. The research method was to see background of the anatomic feature and human skeletal X-ray projection through historical aspect of publications, the Internet, and paper. In terms of production, in order to present a design that takes into account the unique silhouette of the human body without distorting the shape of the human skeleton, X-ray images that were reconstituted using a computer graphic tool (Photoshop CS) were reproduced into the fabric as intense images through the digital Textile Printing technique that is capable of expressing fine and delicate details, and applied into the design. An original design was developed that emphasized the impression of the human body being projected and the shape of the human skeleton realistically expressed in terms of silhouette and detail. The results are as follows: First, Body has a anatomic formative characteristic and its formativeness becomes as a great motive for the artistic expression and thereby it becomes more unique and available for new design expression. Second, Using the 'body frame' as the motive of the research, there's mainly tried to make an unique expression. Third, according to reconstructing human skeletal X-ray projection by using Adobe Photoshop CS2, it can be expressed strong and unique design. Forth, DTP which is being used as an essential technique, expresses the body frame realistically and being used the special type of functional product and silk. Likewise by discovering the diverse formativeness of our body frame and reflecting the sense of humanity into the pieces there's been able to make and develop an unique fashion design. I sincerely hope there is a hug progress in this research in this area.

  • This paper develops a computer model for estimating the bump characterisitcs of a cat)over type large-sized truck. The truck is composed of front and rear suspension systems, a frame, a cab, and ten tires. The computer model is developed using MSC.ADAMS. A shock absorber, a rubber bush, and a leaf spring affect a lot on the dynamic characteristic of the vehicle. Their stiffness and damping coefficient are measured and used as input data of the computer model. Leaf springs in the front and rear suspension systems are modeled by dividing them three links and joining them with joints. To improve the reliability of the developed computer model, the frame is considered as a flexible body. Thus, the frame is modeled by finite elements using MSC.PATRAN. A mode analysis is performed with the frame model using MSC.NASTRAN in order to link the frame model to the computer model. To verify the reliability of the developed computer model, a double wheel bump test is performed with an actual vehicle. In the double wheel bump, vortical displacement, velocity, acceleration are measured. Those test results are compared with the simulation results.

  • We propose a novel framework for markerless camera-based games. By using a visual camera, our method may yield robust human body segmentation with high performance comparable to the segmentation using depth cameras. The edges of human bodies are detected by subtracting gradient backgrounds, and human body regions are segmented by the operations based on mathematical morphology. Collisions between detected regions and virtual objects are determined by finding the colliding time using intra-frame positions of virtual objects. Experimental results show that the proposed method may produce robust segmentation of human bodies, thereby and the collision responses are more accurate than previous methods. Therefore, the proposed framework can be widely used in camera-based games requiring high performance.

  • This paper presents the vibration characteristics of a motorcycle body frame. In order to study the excitation mechanism. for example, of handle vibration, discrete models and finite element model are developed for the calculation of natural frequencies and mode shapes of the driveline and body. which can lead to the resonances. Experiments are also conducted to compare with the analytical results From the various kinds of vibration reduction methods, the technical realizable one is presented to reduce the handle vibration responses at the start of driving.
