파이프라인의 건전성 평가 시스템 개발 (Development of Integrity Assessment System for the Pipeline)

  • The object of this work is to develop an assessment system for pipeline integrity. the system consists of four module applications for internal algorithm; the effect of corrosion in pipeline, crack, stress corrosion crack (SCC) and fatigue modules. Presently, the module of the external corrosion has been developed and the internal algorithm for the effect of corrosion in pipeline and the database of the system are described in this paper. The database of the system is separated to mainly four parts; geometry of pipeline, material properties, boundary conditions and general properties. Each components of the system are designed by user-friendly concept. This system may give a guideline for maintenance and modifications for the pipeline at the industrial sight. Furthermore, a procedure to evaluate an inspection interval is also provided.

  • A new end-effector has been devised and the problems resulted from using it with SCARA robots are discussed. The end effector has two modules: one composed of two ultrasonic motors and two encoders for controlling each finger, and the other module composed of two ultrasonic motors and two encoders for controlling the wrist. The wrist module adds two degrees of freedom to the SCARA type robot, which generally has four degrees of freedom. With independent finger actuation and touch sensors, the gripper under computer control can feedback information about part size and part presence. Ultrasonic motors with high torque and slow motion characteristics are used. The principle of ultrasonic motors is explained and the servo characteristics of ultrasonic motors are studied. They are controlled by the general motion controller (Hewlett Packard HCTL-1000) which is linked to an IBM-PC AT.

  • This paper describes inference architecture of an intelligent CAD system that is to be used for design tasks in which complex and large amount of knowledge is used. In order to investigate the issue of handling huge and complex knowledge, design knowledge is categorized into four types and inference methods for them are identified respectively: original design problems are decomposed into several modules of design processes and finally into sub-problems with the four types of knowledge as basic elements in a top-down manner. We demonstrate the implementation of the architecture with the result of the machining center - a sort of machine tools - design.

  • This paper presents a task teaching method for off-line programming of a multi-robot system. Teaching commands were developed in order to simplify a complex teaching process, to shorten the setup time for new working environment and to have flexibility for changes in working environment. Four teaching commands can be used to automatically generate trajectories of an end-effector of the robot in electronics assembly line. The robots used in the work cell are a four-axis SCARA robot and six-axis articulated robot. Each robot is controlled in a independent way while objects, working environment and robots are modeled in corresponding modules, respectively. The off- line programming system developed uses OpenGL for a smooth graphic effect in Window s where three dimensional CAD data can be leaded for graphical modeling.

고해상도 컬러 영상 워핑의 실시간 구현을 위한 영상 캐시 알고리즘 (Image Cache Algorithm for Real-time Implementation of High-resolution Color Image Warping)

  • This paper presents a new image cache algorithm for real-time implementation of high-resolution color image warping. The cache memory is divided into four cache memory modules for simultaneous readout of four input image pixels in consideration of the color filter array (CFA) pattern of an image sensor and CFA image warping. In addition, a pipeline structure from the cache memory to an interpolator is shown to guarantee the generation of an output image pixel at each system clock cycle. The proposed image cache algorithm is applied to an FPGA-based real-time color image warping, and experimental results are presented to show the validity of the proposed method.

  • An autonomous stair robot recognizing the stair, and climbing up and down the stair by utilizing a robot vision, photo sensors, and appropriate climbing algorithm is introduced. Four arms associated with four wheels make the robot climb up and down more safely and faster than a simple track typed robot. The robot can adjust wheel base according to the stair width, hence it can adopt to a variable width stair with different algorithms in climbing up and down. The command and image data acquired from the robot are transferred to the main computer through RF wireless modules, and the data are delivered to a remote computer via a network communication through a proper data compression, thus, the real time image monitoring is implemented effectively.

  • In same cases of grid connected system using photovoltaic modules, high boosting ratio is required for the converters. Four topologies based on conventional boost converters are implemented according to the voltage doubler and cascade methods. The topologies are analyzed and compared according to its boosting ratio and configurations. Consequently, the suitability of four topologies for MIC application is considered by simulation results.

과학자를 소재로 한 초등과학영재 프로그램 개발 (The Development of a Science Education Program for Gifted Elementary Students Based on the Biographies of Scientists)

  • The purposes of this study were to develop a science program using scientists as the material and to examine the effects of this in teaching science to gifted elementary students. The program included low modules, each of which was devised based on the literature examination of the lives, scientific achievements and contributions of four scientists: Ju-Myeong Seok, Jang-Chun Woo, L. Pasteur, and M. Curie. In this study, the four modules were applied and taught to fifteen gifted children in the 6th grade. After the program was taught to the children, post-questionnaires, examination of the subjects' output, in-depth interviews and classroom investigations were carried out and analyzed by the researchers. The results of the study were as follows. The majority of the subjects showed a considerable amount of interest in the program, participated actively and enthusiastically in the given tasks until they solved the problems, and their output produced a number of novel ideas. The results of the post-questionnaires indicated that the program was appropriate fer the subjects and effective in teaching scientifically-gifted children. Moreover, the analysis of the in-depth interviews conducted with the subjects showed that the subjects had opportunities to think about scientific attitudes, the relationships between science, society and nations, the contributions that scientists can possibly make to society, and the identity of scientists, despite the existence of differences between individual children.
