  • A real-time face tracking is a broad topic, covering a large spectrum of technologies and applications. Briefly face tracking is a kind of tracing technique which follows human face in any directions. It needs some algorithms such as human face detection and motion controller to track face. Moreover, both processing time and calculation time are the most important factors that influence to drive tracking system. In this paper, two algorithms are used to find human face: earn-shift algorithm and face detection algorithm using OpenCV. Fuzzy controller is utilized to move pan-tilt camera system which can move four directions along to x-y axis.

Development of parked vehicles searching system

  • In this research, we developed a system, which can find the location of vehicle when people park their cars in a big parking lot or large area. People can find their cars readily through this simple device and they can save their time and effort. This is the purpose of this research. Performing this, detection of electromagnetic wave's direction is needed and we used shielding effectiveness of electromagnetic waves for the method of it. An absolute coordinate indicates four directions (E, W, S, N) by using an electronic compass module, and it is needed for the localization. The device can check the received count of the electromagnetic waves coming from all other directions through the system, which is installed in the vehicle. The direction recorded the least received count would be the location of the parked vehicles. We can add on the function of this research by using the same frequency of cars alarm goods. Also, it is useful in the huge indoor parking lot.

  • Hangul is expressed by the basic elements, twenty-four characters. Because these characters are composed of a circle and lines, Hough transform(HT), which has a powerful performance on the noise in extracting lines, is introduced. Many difficulties often occur when the original HT is used to extract strokes and it's direction, position and length from handwritten Hangul characters. Original HT has eight direction selected as samples in the transformed image should be calculated for these eight directions. In this paper, the generalized sampling rule is suggested. According to the rule, those directions which are possible to a line are the only thing to be calculated. The experoment result turned out to be higher than the method that Chen suggested in sampling rate. Anogher experiment result is done on the 1800 handwritten Hangul characters that 10 persons wrote. By feature extracting the oritinal HT and sampling HT. And as a result of six type classification, the suggested method came out higher than original HT.

Frequency analysis of eccentric hemispherical shells with variable thickness

  • A three-dimensional (3-D) method of analysis is presented for determining the free vibration frequencies of eccentric hemi-spherical shells of revolution with variable thickness. Unlike conventional shell theories, which are mathematically two-dimensional (2-D), the present method is based upon the 3-D dynamic equations of elasticity. Displacement components $u_r$, $u_{\Theta}$, and $u_z$ in the radial, circumferential, and axial directions, respectively, are taken to be periodic in ${\theta}$ and in time, and algebraic polynomials in the r and z directions. Potential and kinetic energies of eccentric hemi-spherical shells with variable thickness are formulated, and the Ritz method is used to solve the eigenvalue problem, thus yielding upper bound values of the frequencies by minimizing the frequencies. As the degree of the polynomials is increased, frequencies converge to the exact values. Convergence to three or four-digit exactitude is demonstrated for the first five frequencies of the shells. Numerical results are presented for a variety of eccentric hemi-spherical shells with variable thickness.

  • By using the electrochemical method, the relation between the deformation and the geometrical shape, and the effect of cold work on hydrogen absorption-desorption cycling in palladium were investigated, In order to study this problem, four kinds of the Pd specimens used were plates and bars as cold worked and annealed states. As results, it is found that the deformation of thickness direction in the palladium plates increased whereas other lateral directions decreased. But the palladium bars showed the same deformation ratio in all directions because of uniform distribution of the $\beta$ phase. Grains in the plate specimens were greatly deformed after hydrogenation cycling whereas grains in the bar specimens were pulverized. Also, deterioration of the hydrogen absorption rate of the bar specimen was larger than the plate specimen. And the effect of cold work on hydrogen absorption capacity was relatively small.

  • The design fundamentals of the shaking tables are briefly discussed. In order to understand the recent trends in development of the shaking tables, the characteristics and performances of the major seismic testing facilities are investigated. The international standards related to the vibration tests using shaking table are also overviewed. The newly designed multipurpose biaxial shaking table of Hyundai Heavy Industries, Co., Ltd. is introduced. It has the capabilities to perform the vibration, shock and seismic qualification tests in two simultaneous and independent directions (vertical and horizontal directions). Since the shaking table adapts four extremely stiff torque instead of much more expensive hydraulic actuators, these tubes can restrain two undesired rotational motions. Regarding the manufacturing and maintenance costs, two system is more economical since it has only two hydraulic actuators unlike others.

Unlike conventional shell theories, which are mathematically two-dimensional (2-D), the present method is based upon the 3-D dynamic equations of elasticity. Displacement components $u_r$, $u_{\theta}$, and $u_z$ in the radial, circumferential, and axial directions, respectively, are taken to be periodic in ${\theta}$ and in time, and algebraic polynomials in the r and z directions. Strain and kinetic energies of the truncated conical shell with variable thickness are formulated, and the Ritz method is used to solve the eigenvalue problem, thus yielding upper bound values of the frequencies by minimizing the frequencies.   • By discriminating the wave propagation paths in cylindrical vessels, a technique for AE source location has been proposed. This method is based on the path difference between several propagating directions from a source to a sensor. One sensor can receive multiple waveforms sequentially including a direct arrival and several others propagated through the circumferential direction. An wave front normally propagates in all directions and as many waveforms can reach the sensor until the signal faded out by attenuation. Only the first four arrivals suffice the condition for calculating the source location. The proposed method was examined for an actual cylindrical vessel by the source location experiment using simulated AE sources. The test showed very promising results and the method can be utilized for a simple AE source location without multi-channel instruments.

  • This paper describes a design of a tactile sensor, which can measure three components force and temperature due to thermal conductive. The bio-mimetic tactile sensor, alternative to human's finger, is comprised of four micro force sensors and four thermal sensors, and its size being 10mm$\times$10mm. Each micro force sensor has a square membrane, and its force range is 0.1N - 5N in the three-axis directions. On the other hand, the thermal sensor for temperature measurement has a heater and four temperature sensor elements. The thermal sensor is designed to keep the temperature. $36.5^{\circ}C$, constant, like human skin, and measure the temperature $0^{\circ}C$ to $50^{\circ}C$. The MEMS technology is applied to fabricate the sensing element of the tactile sensor.

  • This paper describes an active laser sensing device using laser diodes and optic devices. It is able to detect near targets existed in $360^{\circ}$ directions simultaneously with effectiveness and reliability. This sensing device consists of four laser transmitters and four receivers. Only four transmitter/receiver channels of this near range sensing device are capable of $360^{\circ}$ coverage. The usefulness of this sensing device is confirmed through some experiments for the mock-up targets.
