The purpose of this study is to clarify the relationship between the fashion sensibility and the formative properties in clothing. 91 kinds of costume samples have been selected from photographs in fashion magazines under color combination, inside form, texture, pattern type in clothing. I have measured fashion sensibility by using Semantic Differential method. The obtained data were analyzed by GLM, discriminant analysis. The results of analysis are as follow; 1. The discriminative images were significant difference in formative properties - color combination was related to attractiveness, inner form to decorativeness, pattern to harmony and texture to surface of soft and hard in clothing. 2. fashion sensibility was significant relationship with formative properties especially inner form in clothing. And the trimming was identified as gorgeous and feminine. 3. • The purpose of this study was to provide effective design strategy and distinguish productions for the consumer's emotion satisfaction by analyzing formative properties of fashion sensibility and emotion. 54 photos of contemporary costume have been selected which represented the Izard' DES. The questionnaire consisted of bi-polar 25 pairs adjective scale of fashion sensibility and the 18 noun scale of emotion was distributed to 970 male and female living in Pusan area. The data were analyzed by GLM using the statistic SPSS package. The major findings of this research were as follows. 1. In the clothing formative properties following fashion sensibilities, aestheticism shows significant differences in the silhouette and texture, maturity in the silhouette and color, character in the texture and decoration and feminity in the pattern and color. 2. In the clothing formative properties following emotions, negative emotion shows significant differences in the pattern and silhouette, distressㆍfear in the silhouette and pattern, arousal in the texture and color, shame in the color and texture and enjoyment in the silhouette and pattern. 3. In the fashion sensibility and emotion following clothing formative properties, each formative property shows differences in fashion sensibility and emotion. This study result will be utilized in the clothing design development in special usage like theatrical costume, discriminated display and advertisement stratge.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the image according to formative properties of hat and garment in the fashion collection. For the study, the 96 stimuli found frequently in fashion collection from the S/S season of 1998 to the F/W season of 2004 were selected. Sets of stimulus and response scales (7 point semantic) were used as experimental materials. The stimuli were 96 pictures with the types of hat(4), the lengths of hair(3), the types of garment(3), the relations between the color of garment and hat(4), and the materials(4) and patterns of garment(2). The subjects were 415 women college students majoring fashion design related fields and living in Seoul and Gyeongsangnam-do. As statistical methods for data analysis, Factor Analysis, ANOVA test, and LSD test were used. The items of the adjectives were classified into 5 image dimensions; attractiveness, gracefulness, concentration, cuteness, and hardness and softness. Among these factors, each dimensional image was affected by formative properties of hat and garment. The image of a hat-wearer was perceived differently according to the hair style and the formative properties of hat and garment even if the type of hat was same.

  • This study classifies short front long back skirts from the Joseon Dynasty by style type, identifies their formative characteristics based on their external morphological properties and internal composition, and examines their correlation with Korean thought. A literature review and empirical research were conducted for this study. The style of short front long back skirts is classified as inverted "b"-shaped, lower lip, wavy, trapezoid with a raised center hem, or half-circle. As such, this skirt possesses the formative properties of imbalance, variability of shape, intentional three-dimensionality, and confluence. In other words, with an imbalance resulting from the difference in length between the front and back, these skirts are characterized by variability in shape created by intentional three-dimensionality expressed as intentional three-dimensional beauty, the confluence of planes and dimensions, as well as of materials and colors. These properties are correlated with Korean ways of viewing the world. This study contributes to the development of Korean designs.

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify the relationship between the visual sensibility and the decorative design of clothing. 41 kinds of costume samples have been selected from photographs in fashion magazines under detail and trimming, and divided into three types according to line, shape, and form. I have measured these images by using Semantic Differential method. The obtained data were analyzed by factor analysis ANOVA, discriminant analysis, regression analysis and MDS. The results of analysis are as follow; 1. Factor analysis has extracted five factors which consist of decorative design sensibility. These factors are Attractiveness, Hardness and Softness, Rhythm, Decorativeness, Cuteness. 2. There were significant differences in visual evaluation of decorative design and demographics 3. The discrimination among formative designs was closely related to decorative image, especially between line and form. 4. The Image effect on Preference, Buying needs, Riches and Pleasant was consist of complicated sensibility. 5. Evaluative dimensions of decorative design were identified by Simple-Complicated, Cubic -Plane perceptive image differed in degree of similarity in spite of same formative design.

  • This study's basic intention is to analyze property of combination relations of formative element composing robot' s face based on a result of preference response on robot's design. Also, in order to improve preference from the analysis result, the study intended to inquire into possibilities of suggesting design guideline. For the above, photographs of 27 robots' faces were selected as a experimental stimuli, and experiments on preference response and association response were performed. As a result, various properties such as robots' form of eyes having greater influences than facial structure, etc. Based on the result, each formative element's property that could have positive influence preference response on robot's face could be drawn and basic design guideline could also be suggested.

  • The purpose of this study is to set a characteristic design by analyzing formative properties for the hat and fashion image shown in fashion collections from the S/S season of 1998 to the F/W season of 2004 in recent seven years. For the study, the 96 stimuli which found frequently in fashion collection were selected. The examines for the image evaluation were women college students majoring fashion design related fields and living in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, and Gyeongsangnam-do. Data collection was performed in August 2004. As statistical methods for data analysis, internal consistency method, Factor Analysis, MANOVA were used. Based on the analysis of 31 pairs of adjectives for elucidating the total 96 stimuli which were devised by altering the types of garment, the relation between a garment and a color of hat, the types of hat, the length of hair, and the material and design of garment, five factors or attractiveness, gracefulness, concentration, cuteness, and hardness and softness were deduced. And it showed much difference in the types of garment, the relations between a garment and a color of hat, the types of hat, the length of hair, and the material and design of a garment.

  • This study provides references that can be applied to future suit design by analyzing the formative characteristics of modern men's and women's suits. Research on related literature and case studies were carried out simultaneously. A criterion for analyzing formative characteristics of suits was drawn up through an examination of past research. A total of 1,410 suit photographs that appeared in the U.S. edition of Vogue Magazine from 1985 to 2008 were analyzed in order to observe the formative characteristics of men's and women's suits. Research results showed that in the 1980s suits pursued a more comfortable and natural fit based on the original properties of simplicity, modernity, and practicality; in addition, women's suits had a tendency to use excessive shoulder pads due to the power-look influence. In the early 1990s exaggerated shoulders and boxy straight silhouettes were in fashion but towards the later years suit designs gradually started to fit the body and established a skinny versus slouch conflict. Women's suits gradually began to show more curvy body lines, and men's suits became more feminine on the surface in terms of color and material. In the 2000s suits have become more feminine and sensual than the 1990s, design focuses of both men's and women's suits moved to the waistline. Skinny and long styles became the ideal silhouette and differences between formative characteristics of the two genders decreased. Fashion elements of men's and women's suits are seen to have changed with a mutual intimate connection under the influence of a similar societal environment.
