Containment Evaluation of the KN-12 Transport Cask

  • The KN-12 transport cask has been designed to transport 12 PWR spent nuclear fuel assemblies and to comply with the regulatory requirements for a Type B(U) package. The containment boundary of the cask is defined by a cask body, a cask lid, lid bolts with nuts, O-ring seals and a bolted closure lid. The containment vessel for the cask consists of a forged thick-walled carbon steel cylindrical body with an integrally-welded carbon steel bottom and is closed by a lid made of stainless steel, which is fastened to the cask body by lid bolts with nuts and sealed by double elastomer O-rings. In the cask lid an opening is closed by a plug with an O-ring seal and covered by the bolted closure lid sealed with an O-ring. The cask must maintain a radioactivity release rate of not more than the regulatory limit for normal transport conditions and for hypothetical accident conditions, as required by the related regulations. The containment requirements of the cask are satisfied by maintaining a maximum air reference leak rate of $2.7{\times}10^{-4}ref.cm^3s^{-1}$ or a helium leak rate of $3.3{\times}10^{-4}cm^3s^{-1}$ for normal transport conditions and for hypothetical accident conditions.

딜라토미터를 이용한 STD11 공구강의 오스테나이징 및 템퍼링 열처리에 따른 치수 변화 이방성 연구 (Study on the Anisotropic Size Change by Austenitizing and Tempering Heat Treatment of STD11 Tool Steel Using Dilatometry)

  • Heat treatment is an important step for tool manufacture, but unavoidably generates dimensional distortion. This study investigated the continuous dimensional change and the anisotropic behavior of STD11 tool steel during austenitizing and tempering heat treatment especially using quenching dilatometer. Dilatometric results represented that the dimensional change along longitudinal direction was larger than that along transverse direction. Anisotropic phase transformation strain was produced in forged STD11 tool steel during heat treatment. Anisotropic dimensional change increased with increasing austenitizing temperature. After tempering, anisotropic distortion was partially reduced. FactSage thermodynamic equilibrium phase simulation and microstructural observation (FE-SEM, TEM) showed that large ($7{\sim}80{\mu}m$) elongated $M_7C_3$ carbides could be formed along rolling direction. The resolution of elongated carbides during austenitizing was found to be related with the change of martensite transformation temperature after heat treatment. Anisotropic size change of STD11 tool steel was mainly attributed to large elongated carbides produced during rolling process. Using dilatometric and metallographic examination, the possible mechanism of the anisotropic size change was also discussed.

용접재료별 단강 피스톤 크라운 용접부위의 부식특성에 대한 평가 (Evaluation of the corrosion property on the welded zone of forged steel piston crown with types of filler metals)

  • 최근 수년 동안 유가의 현저한 상승으로 인하여 상선의 디젤 기관은 저질 중유를 주로 사용하게 되었다. 따라서 저질 중유의 사용 증가에 따른 디젤 기관의 연소실 배기가스 온도는 점차 상승하여 가혹한 부식 환경에 직면하게 되었다. 그 결과 연소실 주변의 모든 기관 부품들의 부식과 마모는 다른 기관 부품들에 비해서 심각하다. 그러므로 이들 부품들의 적절한 덧살 용접은 수명 연장을 위하여 경제적인 측면에서 매우 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 피스톤 크라운 재질로 통상 사용되는 단강에 4종류의 용접재료로 SMAW와 GTAW로 용접하였다. 실험은 모재, 열영향부 및 용접금속의 부식 특성을 35% 황산용액에서 부식전위, 양극분극 곡선, 사이클릭볼타모그램 및 임피던스 등의 전기화학적인 방법으로 하여 고찰하였다. Inconel 625, 718 용접재료의 경우 용접금속의 내식성이 가장 우수하였고, 모재의 내식성이 가장 좋지 않았으며, 반면에 1.25Cr-0.5Mo와 0.5Mo는 모재가 용접금속에 비해서 더 좋은 내식성을 나타내었다. 또한, 용접금속 중 Inconel 625가 가장 내식성이 우수하였으며, 그 다음으로 Inconel 718 용접재료로 나타났다. 경도 역시 용접금속이 상대적으로 모재, 열영향부에 비해서 높은 값을 나타내었다. 특히 Inconel 718 용접재료의 경우 다른 용접재료에 비하여 가장 높은 경도값을 나타내었다.

1.5wt%C 초고탄소 워크롤 제조를 위한 단조 공정 설계: 기공압착 및 접합강도 분석 (Process Design for Manufacturing 1.5wt%C Ultrahigh Carbon Workroll: Void Closure Behavior and Bonding Strength)

  • Experiments and numerical simulations of the incremental upsetting test were carried out to investigate void closure behavior and mechanical characteristic of a 1.5wt%C ultra-high carbon steel. The experimental results showed that the voids become quickly smaller as the reduction ratio increases. The simulation results confirmed this behavior and indicated that the voids were completely closed at a reduction ratio of about 40~45% during incremental upsetting. After the completion of the incremental upsetting tests, the process of diffusion bonding was employed to heal the closed voids in the deformed specimens. To check the appropriate temperature for diffusion bonding, deformed specimens were kept at 800, 900, 1000 and $1100^{\circ}C$ for an hour. In order to investigate the effect of holding time for diffusion bonding at $1100^{\circ}C$, specimens were kept at 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60minutes in the furnace. A distinction between closed and healed voids was clearly established using microstructural observations. In addition, subsequent tensile tests demonstrated that complete healing of a closed void was achieved for diffusion bonding temperatures in the range $900{\sim}1100^{\circ}C$ with a holding time larger than 1 hour.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of through thickness on the mechanical properties and microstructural features in Mod. 9Cr-1Mo steels for RPVs. The microstructures at all locations were typically tempered martensite, but small amount of delta ferrite was observed at the center region. The prior austenite grain size increased with the depth from the surface. The yield strengths of center and 1/4T location were higher than that of surface by 30MPa. The impact toughness of center was low compared to those of other specimens. Also, upper shelf energy was low at the center. The toughness deterioration in center might be caused by larger size of the prior austenite grains and existence of the delta ferrite.

  • Process design of hot forging, asymmetric to symmetric rib-web shape steel, which is used for the turnout of railway express has been investigated. Owing to the big difference in shape between the initial billet and the final forged product, it is impossible to hot forge the rail in a single step. Therefore, multi step forging as well as die design for each step are necessary for the production. The deformation behavior during hot forging has been analyzed by the numerical simulation through commercial FEA software, $DEFORM^{TM}$-2D. Modification of the design and repeated simulation have been carried out on the basis of the simulation result. For comparison with the simulation results. flow analysis experiment using plasticine has been also carried out. The results of the flow analysis experiment showed good agreement with those of the simulation. Therefore, the developed process design could be applied to the actual production.

강교 도장용 블라스트 처리가 면외거셋 용접이음의 피로거동에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Blast Cleaning for Steel Bridge Painting on Fatigue Behavior of Out-of-Plane Gusset Welded Joints)

  • 강구조물의 제작에는 흑피 등의 이물질 제거 및 도장의 부착성 증대를 위해 블라스트 표면처리가 실시되고 있지만, 이러한 도장용 블라스트 처리가 용접이음의 피로거동에 미치는 영향에 대해서는 검토되어 있지 않은 실정이다. 이에 본 논문에서는 강교 도장용 블라스트 처리가 용접이음부의 피로거동에 미치는 영향을 검토하기 위하여, 용접한 그대로 및 용접 후 블라스트 처리한 면외거셋 용접이음을 대상으로 피로실험을 실시하였다. 그 결과, 강교 도장용 블라스트 처리에 의해 면외거셋 용접이음의 용접지단부 비드접선각도 및 곡률반경이 증가되고 압축잔류 응력이 도입됨을 확인하였다. 그리고 면외거셋 용접이음의 피로수명은 고응력범위에서는 블라스트 처리의 유무와 상관없이 거의 동일하였지만, 저응력범위(150MPa이하)에서는 피로수명이 증가하였으며, 피로한계는 약 160%정도로 크게 증가함을 확인하였다.

1.9wt%C 초고탄소 워크롤 단조 공정 : Part II - 기공압착 및 확산접합 (Forging of 1.9wt%C Ultrahigh Carbon Workroll : Part II - Void Closure and Diffusion Bonding)

  • In the previous work, a new forging process design, which included incremental upsetting, diffusion bonding and cogging, was suggested as a method to manufacture 1.9wt%C ultrahigh carbon workrolls. The previous study showed that incremental upsetting and diffusion bonding are effective in closing voids and healing of the closed void. In addition, compression tests of the 1.9wt%C ultrahigh carbon steel revealed that new microvoids form within the blocky cementite at temperatures of less than $900^{\circ}C$ and that local melting can occur at temperatures over $1120^{\circ}C$. Thus, the forging temperature should be controlled between 900 and $1120^{\circ}C$. Based on these results, incremental upsetting and diffusion bonding were used to check whether they are effective in closing and healing voids in a 1.9wt%C ultrahigh carbon steel. The incremental upsetting and diffusion bonding were performed using sub-sized specimens of 1.9wt%C ultrahigh carbon steel. The specimen was deformed only in the radial direction during the incremental upsetting until the reduction ratio reached about 45~50%. After deformation the specimens were kept at $1100^{\circ}C$ for the 1 hour in order to obtain a high bonding strength for the closed void. Finally, microstructural observations and tensile tests were conducted to investigate void closure behavior and bonding strength.

블라스트 표면처리가 하중비전달형 십자필렛 용접이음의 피로거동에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Blast Cleaning on Fatigue Behavior of Non-load-carrying Fillet Welded Cruciform Joints)

  • 강교 제작에는 강재 표면의 이물질 제거와 피복방식재료의 부착성 증대를 위하여 블라스트 표면처리가 실시되고 있다. 블라스트 표면처리는 쇼트나 그릿 등의 연마재를 압축공기로 분사하여 강재 표면에 충격을 가하는 표면처리법으로, 블라스트 처리에 의해 표면형상이 개선되고 압축잔류응력이 도입되어 용접이음의 피로수명이 향상될 것으로 예상된다. 본 연구에서는 하중비전달형 십자필렛 용접이음의 피로실험을 실시하여, 블라스트 표면처리가 용접이음의 피로거동에 미치는 영향을 실험적으로 검토하였다. 피로실험에는 용접 후 무처리 시험편(용접 그대로), 용접 후 블라스트 표면처리 한 시험편과 블라스트 처리 후 열처리에 의해 잔류응력을 제거한 시험편의 합계 3종류의 용접시험편을 대상으로 하였다. 그 결과 블라스트 표면처리에 의해 용접지단부의 곡률반경은 약 29% 증가하였으며, 용접지단부의 인장잔류응력이 제거되고 압축잔류응력이 도입되었다. 그리고 블라스트 처리에 의해 피로수명과 피로한계가 증가하였다. 피로수명은 응력범위가 낮을수록 더 크게 증가하였고, 피로한계는 약 1.5배 증가하였다.

  • The characteristics of the tool system give many effects into the costs and qualities for the finished components. Therefore, a tool life is one of the important issues on cold forging industry. However, since variables related with tool life are many complicated, the studies for solution should be investigated by the systematic research approach. The shape and process changes of die, the hardness changes of material and the tolerance of dies to decrease the die stress are analyzed by the FEM software. The heat-treatment of tool material is investigated to improve the tool life. Deep cryogenic treatment of tool steel is very efficient to improve the wear resistance due to the fine carbide. And, it is investigated that the shape and dimension of tool give effect into both tool life and quality of forged product..
