o What is the flux \ulcorner Flux is the transfer of a quantity per unit area per unit time. The quantities are mass, heat, moisture, momentum and pollutant in micrometeorology. Kinematic flux (Fluid). The reduction in wind speed due to frictional drag transfers momentum from the atmosphere to the surface, creating turbulence that mixes the air and transports heat and water from the surface into the lower atmosphere. The present study aimed to investigate the diurnal variations in air concentrations and exchange fluxes of ammoniacal nitrogen ($NH_x$: ammonia ($NH_3$) and particulate ammonium) in a subalpine deciduous forest in central Japan during a week in summer. The $NH_3$ concentrations ($0.50\;{\mu}g\;N\;m^{-3}$ on average) showed a clear circadian variation, i.e., high and low in the daytime and nighttime, respectively. The concentration of particulate ammonium in the coarse fractions was extremely low, whereas that for the PM2.5 fraction was relatively high $0.55\;{\mu}g\;N\;m^{-3}$ on average). The main inorganic ion components of PM2.5 at the study site were ammonium and sulfate. The exchange fluxes of $NH_x$ were bidirectional. Both the maximum and minimum values occurred in the daytime, i.e., $0.39\;mg\;N\;m^{-2}\;hr^{-1}$ of downward flux and $0.11\;mg\;N\;m^{-2}\;hr^{-1}$ of upward flux for $NH_3$ and $0.25\;mg\;N\;m^{-2}\;hr^{-1}$ of downward flux and $0.13\;mg\;N\;m^{-2}\;hr^{-1}$ of upward flux for PM2.5 ammonium. The exchange fluxes of $NH_x$ at night could be considered as zero. The mean deposition velocity during the research period was almost zero for both $NH_3$ and PM2.5 ammonium. The atmosphere-forest exchange of $NH_x$ in the forest during the study period was balanced. The remarkably large deposition of $NH_x$ was attributable to meteorological events such as showers the night before that thoroughly washed the forest canopy and subsequent clear skies in the morning, which enhanced convection. The cleaning effect of rainfall and the rapid change in convection in the early morning should be monitored to evaluate and generalize the gas and particle exchange in a forest.
The purpose of this paper is to examine the differences of user´s satisfaction of development elements of natural recreation forest(NFR) developed by public and private bodies in order to answer the research question: What is the differences of user´s satisfaction of development elements of NFR\ulcorner After reviewing the literature, mechanism of outdoor recreation, and development elements in NRF, we constructed the conceptual framework and have formulated the hypothesis of this research. We had obtained data through a questionnaire, which surveyed 584 visitors at 10 of the 72 natural recreation forests in Korea in 1999. We have analyzed the data using he descriptive statistical method, the mean difference test, and logistic regression method. We have found that 1) all the development elements have turned out to be significantly different from the mean difference test, 2) the two elements of atmosphere and activity have turned out to be statistically significant in determining the difference of NFR developed by public and private body in logistic regression analysis while user´s satisfaction in recreational resources, facilities and service make no differences between public and private NRF, 3) the higher the degree of user´s satisfaction in atmosphere and activity at NFR, the more the NFR developed by private body, and 4) their relative contribution of atmosphere and activities on whether the NFR is developed by public or private body have been turned out to have 0.258 and 0.242 respectively, which have a similar importance. The research results suggest that a guideline for the creation of marketable NFR by public and private developer, and development of use-programs and recreational atmosphere be recommended in the planning and development process of NRF. The approach and anlaysis method adopted by this research is highly useful for an evaluation of NRF developed by the tow bodies and development of devices for increasing user´s satisfaction and marketing positioning of NRF by the tow developers. It is recommended that more empirical study on individual development elements affecting user´s satisfaction be performed in the future.
A land surface parameterization has been used to simulate influences of the terrestrial surface on the atmosphere. A simple biosphere model (SiB2), one of land surface parameterization, calculates exchange of radiation, sensible heat, latent heat, and momentum between the surface and the atmosphere (Sellers, et al., 1996).(omitted)
The micrometeorological tower flux network is the cornerstone of the global terrestrial vegetation monitoring. The eddy covariance technique used for tower fluxes is derived from the conservation of mass and is most applicable for steady-state conditions over flat, extended, and uniform vegetation. This technique allows us to obtain surface fluxes of energy budget components, greenhouse and trace gases, and other pollutants. The quality-controlled flux data are invaluable to validate various models with temporal scales ranging from minutes to years and spatial scales ranging from a few meters to hundreds of kilometers. In this paper, we review the theoretical background of this important eddy covariance technique, examine the measurement criteria and corrections, and finally suggest some measurement strategies that may facilitate coordinated flux measurements among different disciplines and provide a strong infrastructure for the global flux network.
Forest healing is an activity that enhances immunity and human health using various elements of nature, such as fragrance and scenery. Particularly, phytoncide composed of terpene, a natural volatile substance emitted by forest plants, activates the immune function and is an important raw material in health-related products, such as antibacterial and insect repellents. Moreover, phytoncide is used as a measure to evaluate the impact of the forest atmosphere on the human body. This study aims to implement a highly sensitive gas sensor system that can measure phytoncide in real-time, which is an essential element for realizing a forest healing environment. A gas generation apparatus was implemented by using an adsorption tube in consideration of filed applicability in a laboratory atmosphere to enable the measurement of α-pinene and limonene, which are among the main components of phytoncide. Throughout the experimental trials, the sensitivity of gas sensor arrays to α-pinene and limonene was confirmed. In addition, the classification results demonstrated the AVOCs and NVOCs can be well discriminated using PCA. The primary results confirmed the possibility of developing a high-sensitivity gas sensor system for phytoncide sensing in real time.
To improve the performance of climate and numerical models, concerns on the land-atmosphere schemes are steadily increased in recent years. For the realistic calculation of land-atmosphere interaction, a land surface information of high quality is strongly required. In this study, a new land cover map over the Korean peninsula was developed using MODIS (MODerate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) data. The seven phenological data set (maximum, minimum, amplitude, average, growing period, growing and shedding rate) derived from 15-day normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) were used as a basic input data. The ISOData (Iterative Self-Organizing Data Analysis), a kind of unsupervised non-hierarchical clustering method, was applied to the seven phenological data set. After the clustering, assignment of land cover type to the each cluster was performed according to the phenological characteristics of each land cover defined by USGS (US. Geological Survey). Most of the Korean peninsula are occupied by deciduous broadleaf forest (46.5%), mixed forest (15.6%), and dryland crop (13%). Whereas, the dominant land cover types are very diverse in South-Korea: evergreen needleleaf forest (29.9%), mixed forest (26.6%), deciduous broadleaf forest (16.2%), irrigated crop (12.6%), and dryland crop (10.7%). The 38 in-situ observation data-base over South-Korea, Environment Geographic Information System and Google-earth are used in the validation of the new land cover map. In general, the new land cover map over the Korean peninsula seems to be better classified compared to the USGS land cover map, especially for the Savanna in the USGS land cover map.
