Purpose: It is crucial that 119 emergency medical technician (EMT) have adequate knowledge regarding forensic science. This study aimed to assess the forensic knowledge of EMTs in the Republic of Korea. Methods: This study was conducted on EMTs of five fire stations in D metropolitan city between August 6 and August 13, 2018. A questionnaire consisting of items on crime-related incident recognition (i.e., mechanical asphyxiation, trauma, sex crimes, and child abuse), forensic evidence management (i.e., evidence collection, preservation, and recording) was administered to the participants. Finally, 119 questionnaires were analyzed. Results: The ratio of correct answers for crime-related incidents recognition was 55.82%, which was lower than that for forensic evidence management(84.5%). In particular, the scores for the type of neck compression(16.5%) and wound assessment(44.0%) were low. The percentage of correct answers for forensic evidence management was 78.4% for evidence collection, 84.4% for evidence preservation, and 90.6% for evidence recording. Previous forensic education experience was not a significant variable. Conclusion: Specific and practical forensic science education on perception of crime-related incident, including asphyxia and wound identification, and forensic evidence collection is needed.

The increase in the number of fatal electric accidents over the years has escalated the demand for specialized forensic engineers to determine their relevant technical causes. Likewise, the complexities associated with identifying the causes of electrocution accidents have prompted the General Department of Forensic Science and Criminology at Dubai Police to adopt a new methodology to diagnose electrocution accidents, consisting of an approach that involves medico-legal examination, electrical diagnosis of the evidence, and trace evidence analysis. This paper will discuss the application of the adopted method in further detail by unfolding two case reports. The first report outlines a case in which a worker got electrocuted at a construction site while attempting to turn on a lamp. The second case report involves the death of a technician in a workshop after trying to disconnect a washing machine from its plug. The methodology was utilized during the investigation of both cases, which were attended by the appointed forensic engineers and showed promising results.

스마트폰에 대한 소송이 이루어지고 있고, 최근, 법정에서의 스마트폰 증거데이터에 대한 증거자료 채택이 많아지고 있다. 따라서 불법적인 스마트폰 사용에 대한 증거데이터 추출을 위한 포렌식 절차와 증거물 수집에 대한 연구가 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 스마트폰의 증거데이터 주출에 대한 포렌식 절차를 제시하고, 스마트폰 포렌식 증거를 수집함으로써 디지털 증거의 무결성을 확보하고 사건을 진실을 발견하기 위한 방법에 대해 연구하였다. 본 연구를 통해 스마트폰 포렌식의 발전에 기여할 수 있을 것이다.

최근 발달된 디지털기기들은 사이버로 연결되어 사용되고 있다. 디지털기기 사용자들은 사이버에 연결된 단말기들을 활용하여 금융결제, 전자상거래 등 활동을 하고 있다. 사이버거래의 활성화와 함께 사용자에 대한 사이버범죄가 증가하고 있다. 사이버범죄의 수사에서 Forensic 증거자료를 확보하여야 한다. 하지만, 디지털 포렌식 증거자료를 분석하기에는 많은 정보가 함유되어 있다. 이러한 많은 디지털정보에서, 사이버범죄에 증거를 확보하기 위한 Script가 효율적인 방안이다. 본 논문 연구에서는 Script를 활용하여, Forensic 증거자료를 확보하는 방안을 연구한다. EnCase를 통한 증거자료 추출과 Script를 활용한 증거자료 확보 방안을 연구한다. 본 연구는 안전한 국민생활을 위한 사이버 보안의 기초자료로 활용될 것이다.

DNA methylation is emerging as an attractive marker providing investigative leads to solve crimes in forensic genetics. The identification of body fluids that utilizes tissue-specific DNA methylation can contribute to solving crimes by predicting activity related to the evidence material. The age estimation based on DNA methylation is expected to reduce the number of potential suspects, when the DNA profile from the evidence does not match with any known person, including those stored in the forensic database. Moreover, the variation in DNA implicates environmental exposure, such as cigarette smoking and alcohol consumption, thereby suggesting the possibility to be used as a marker for predicting the lifestyle of potential suspect. In this review, we describe recent advances in our understanding of DNA methylation variations and the utility of DNA methylation as a forensic marker for advanced investigative leads from evidence materials.

본 연구는 재해현장에서 발생한 다양한 형태의 디지털 증거물을 채집 분석하는데 있어 디지털 포렌식 기법에 입각하여 효율적으로 재해 현장 디지털 데이터를 채증할 수 있는 e-Forensic 툴 개발에 관한 것이다. 현장에서 채집한 다양한 디지털 증거물이 법적 증거물로 채택되기 위해서는 디지털 증거물이 위변조가 없는 원본과 동일한 상태임을 입증해야만 하는데 이를 본 e-Forensic툴을 이용하여 검증하였다. 이 툴을 활용하면, 현장 수사 중 디지털 파일을 증거로 수집하는 경우에 현장에서 바로 해시값을 생성, 암호화된 디지털 파일에 부가함으로써 디지털 파일의 원본과 사본의 동일성을 보장하고 현장 증거의 무결성을 향상시킬 수 있는 효과가 있음을 증명하였다.

When a crime occurs, the information necessary for solving the case, and various pieces of the evidence needed to prove the crime are collected from the crime scene. The tangible residues collected through scientific methods at the crime scene become evidence at trial and a clue to prove the facts directly against the offense of the suspect. Therefore, the scientific investigation and forensic handling for securing objective forensic in crime investigation is increasingly important. Today, digital systems, such as smartphones, CCTVs, black boxes, etc. are increasingly used as criminal information investigation clues, and digital forensic is becoming a decisive factor in investigation and trial. However, the systems have the risk that digital forensic may be damaged or manipulated by malicious insiders in the existing centralized management systems based on client/server structure. In this paper, we design and implement a blockchain based digital forensic management model using Hyperledger Fabric and Docker to guarantee the reliability and integrity of digital forensic. The proposed digital evidence management model allows only authorized participants in a distributed environment without a central management agency access the network to share and manage potential crime data. Therefore, it could be relatively safe from malicious internal attackers compared to the existing client/server model.

급격히 증가하는 사이버 침해사고의 수사에 디지털 포렌식 기술과 도구들이 많이 사용되고있다. 하지만 대부분의 디지털 포렌식 증거의 식별 및 수집 도구는 매우 어려운 통합도구이거나 간단하지만 기능이 미흡한 도구들이 주로 사용되고 있다. 이로 인해 공공기관이나 민간 기업의 침해사고 수사시 중요한 디지털 증거들이 누락되거나 훼손될 수 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 윈도우 시스템을 기반으로 'Log Parser'을 이용한 '사이버 침해사고 유형별 디지털 포렌식 증거 식별 및 수집 도구'를 제안하고 이를 이용한 사이버 침해사고 유형별 디지털 포렌식 증거의 식별 및 수집에 관한 방법론에 대해 논하고자 한다.

스마트폰(Smartphone)의 발전과 함께 스마트폰을 이용한 범죄도 증거하고 있다. 스마트폰의 내부 저장매체에는 사건에 증거자료로 활용될 수 있는 이미지, 동영상, 통화내역, GPS정보, 인터넷 사용기록 등의 데이터들이 존재한다. 따라서 이러한 데이터들을 수집하기 위한 체계적인 증거수집 및 증거분석에 대한 절차가 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 스마트폰을 대상으로 모바일 포렌식의 포렌식 증거수집, 증거분석, 결과보고서 작성까지의 절차 및 방법에 대해서 도출한다. 본 논문을 통해 스마트폰 포렌식 조사 및 수사에 대한 기초자료로 활용될 것이다.
