  • Technology associated with power plant control system has been heavily rely on foreign technology. The main reason is that the system has tomaintain stringent reliability and stability. Localization of this system can be started from localization of modules necessary for maintenance and repair in hydraulic and thermal power plant. Gradually and eventually system engineering capability can be built up to design and develop nuclear power plant control system through technology accumulation. Methods are presented to achieve this goal.

고등식물 형질전환용 유전자 운반체 pKCHI의 개발 (Development of a Plant Transformation Vector, pKCHI)

  • We have developed a plasmid vector, pKCH1, for the purpose of higher plant transformation. It contains the promoter region of cauliflower mosaic virus 35S transcript (P35s) and the terminator region of nopaline synthase gene (Tnos) with unique cloning sites, Bam HI and Xba I, between them. After inserting a foreing gene at the cloning sites, P35s-foreign gene-Tnos cassette can be recovered by using a restriction enzyme Hind III.

  • Higher plant transformation vector systems are mainly developed based on the natural biosystems which infecting higher plants. Two major groups attracting much of the research are Cauliflower mosaic virus and Agrobacterium tumefaciens. Cauliflower mosaic virus has a double stranded genome, and a portion of the genome can be substituted for a foreign DNA segment without loosing the ability of infection. A. tumefaciens carries a large plasmid. Ti plasmid whose portion can be substitute and trasferred into the plant chromosome.

  • 2019년도의 세계기상기구(WMO)의 자료에 따르면, 2015~2019년의 전 지구 평균기온은 산업화 이전 시기(1850~1900년)보다 1.1℃ 상승하였다. 평균기온이 1.5℃가 상승할 경우 극한 고온, 호우 및 가뭄 등 자연재해의 발생이 증가할 것이며 이러한 변화가 온난화 속도와 규모에 따라 더욱 심화할 것으로 전망하였다. 이러한 지구온난화의 영향으로 인해 지구 지표면 기온이 점차 상승하게 되면서 열대지방에서나 재배할 수 있었던 과일을 우리나라에서도 열대과일이 재배되어 수확하는 현상을 볼 수 있게 되었다. 유엔 산하 기후변화에 관한 정부 간 협의체 IPCC가 발표한 5차 보고서에 따르면 지금 추세대로라면 21세기 말(2081~2100년) 세계 평균기온 현재보다 3.7도가 상승할 것으로 전망했다. 점진적으로 기온이 상승하면 우리나라의 현재 좋은 품질의 과일을 생산할 수 있는 재배지역이 미래에는 불리한 지역으로 바뀔 수 있다는 위기에 직면하게 되었다고 판단된다. 본 논문에서는 아두이노를 활용하여 재배자가 원하는 식물의 성장을 위해 맞춤 환경을 제공하는 식물재배 시스템을 개발한다.

최근 5년간 국내원전 운전경험보고서 분석 (An Analysis of Operating Experience Reports Published in the Domestic Nuclear Power Plants for Resent 5 Years)

  • The Operating Experience Report(OER) has written about the event and accident happened at a Nuclear Power Plant(NPP). The purpose of publishing the OER is to prevent the similar event or accident repeatedly by spreading the experience of a single plant to other plants personnel. Before initiating the analysis mentioned in this paper, 2,298 review reports for the same number of OER published from 2007 to June 2012 have been written to achieve the correct and objective statistics. The analysis introduced in this paper is performed with the various factors such as year, plant type, equipment, type of work, root-cause. The root-cause analysis is showed that the equipment problem is the major factor in domestic NPPs, but on the other hand human-error is the main part of the foreign NPPs. Moreover, while the number of the man-made event is decreasing, the equipment-made event is rapidly increasing in domestic NPPs.

  • Korea has exerted her efforts to assimilate nuclear power technology, and reportedly localized 95 percent of nuclear power technology by 1995. This paper investigates the evolution of nuclear power program in Korea to exploit the development process of the nuclear power industry and key factors for the technological localization of nuclear power plant. In developing countries, an imitative catching-up process can be shown as a course for developing the absorptive capacity of foreign technology, which depends on prior knowledge base and the intensity of effort. The process of technological learning consists of five stages including preparation, implementation of foreign technology, acquisition of peripheral technology, acquisition of core technology, and improvement f foreign technology. Moreover, this paper discusses six essential factors that have influenced the successful achievement of technological localization of nuclear power plants in Korea. They include the role and strategies of the government, the leading role of utility firm, the development and cooperation of the related organizations, the development of human resources and their efforts, market conditions and the assistance of foreign donors, and social conditions. Finally, this paper discusses about implications offered by the Korean experience for other developing countries.

NON-DESTRUCTIVE DETECTION FOR FOREIGN MATERIALS IN FOOD AND AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS USING X-RAY SYSTEM

  • Quality evaluation for food and agricultural products have always been one of the most elusive problems associated with the handling , processing and marketing in a food plant production. In order to detect physical foreign materials in food and agricultural products, non-destructive techniques have been developed for many years. Application of X-ray system to detect physical foreign materials in food and agricultural products could be considered to be a high potential method. Especially , it is impossible to detect internal physical foreign materials by visual inspections. In this study, it was tried to be applied for two different X-ray devices. Soft X-ray system with CdTe sensor and X-ray CT scanner were evaluated for advantage of the detection of non-meltallic foreign materials in food and agricultural products . Though the soft X-ray is not a high energy radiation, it is possible to detect small different density in a material. The CdTe sensor has a high resolution for t e soft X-ray energy region. The density characteristics of foods and foreign material were expressed region. The density characteristics of foods and foreign materials were expressed as a soft X-ray energy spectrum. The energy spectrum was analyzed by a personal computer with a multi-channel analyzer. X-ray CT scanner can provide visual image and analyze by three dimensional information inside food and agricultural products. The X-ray CT scanner using as a medical equipment was used to detect a foreign material. The density characteristics of food and foreign materials in food were tried to be detected by the threshold value on the basis of the CT numbers. The soft X-ray absorption characteristics for acrylin plates and distilled water were obtained and could be found the possibility of detecting a small physical foreign materials such as a plastic wrapping film , a stone and grasshopper in food and agricultural products.

해외 자생식물추출물이 Streptococcus mutans의 세포 성장 및 생물막 형성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Foreign Plant Extracts on Cell Growth and Biofilm Formation of Streptococcus Mutans)

  • 화학적으로 합성된 물질들이 주로 구강 위생 제품에 사용된다. 그러나 이러한 화학 물질을 장기간 사용 시, 내성 발생이나 알레르기, 치아변색과 같은 부작용이 발생할 수 있다. 이런 문제를 해결하기 위해 식물로부터 유래된 항균 물질의 사용과 이러한 항균 물질들의 탐색을 위한 노력이 계속 진행되고 있다. 본 연구를 통해 Streptococcus mutans의 성장과 생물막 형성을 저해하는 해외 자생식물을 탐색하고자 하였다. 본 실험에는 총 300종의 해외 자생식물 추출물이 사용되었으며, 그 중 Chesneya nubigena (D. Don) Ali 추출물이 S. mutans에 대한 비교적 높은 항균활성을 나타내는 것으로 확인되었다(clear zone, 9 mm; MBC, 1.5 mg/ml). 또한, 19종의 식물추출물이 농도에 비례적으로 S. mutans의 생물막 형성량을 최소 6배 이상 감소시키는 것을 확인하였다. 특히, C. nubigena (D. Don) Ali 추출물은 1.25 mg/ml의 낮은 농도에서부터 효과적으로 생물막 형성을 억제하는 것으로 관찰하였다. 본 연구를 통하여 C. nubigena (D. Don) Ali 추출물이 S. mutans의 생육 성장과 생물막 형성 저해 효과를 나타내었으며, 이를 통해 본 식물추출물이 충치 예방과 치료에 효과가 있는 항균 대체재 개발의 후보 소재로써 평가된다.

An Unsafe Practice Analysis considering Potential Risk to Foreign Construction Laborers in Korea

  • Recently, the number of accidents reported involving foreign laborers has risen, and the need to prevent accidents at construction sites has become more urgent. It has been found that 90 percent of construction accidents are caused by unsafe work practices, and various studies have been conducted on these practices with the aim of preventing accidents at construction sites. However, the tendency with previous studies was to average the results of survey responses, and as a result it is impossible to consider the potential risk of how many foreign laborers feel unsafe in relation with the unsafe practices. Therefore, in this study, importance-performance analysis (IPA) was improved in order to assess the potential risk of the unsafe practices of foreign laborers at construction sites in Korea. To verify the applicability of the improved IPA, a survey was carried out, and then the results were compared with those of the IPA. Through the use of the improved IPA, unsafe practices that were not found in the previous IPA but have potential risk were identified. The method proposed in this study is expected to contribute to the prevention of construction accidents of foreign workers by enabling a more efficient management.
