In this paper, the short-term load forecasting of transformers is performed by artificial neural networks. Input parameters of the proposed algorithm are peak loads of pole-transformer of previous days and their maximum and minimum temperatures. The proposed algorithm is tested for one of transformers in Seoul, Korea. Test results show that the proposed algorithm improves the accuracy of the load forecasting of transformer compared with the conventional algorithm. The reposed algorithm can help to prevent some damages by over-loads of transformers.
Considering pollution source is transferred by discharge, it is very important to analyze the correlation between discharge and water quality. And temperature also influent to the water quality. In this paper, it is used water quality data that was measured DO (Dissolved Oxygen), TOC (Total Organic Carbon), TN (Total Nitrogen), TP (Total Phosphorus) at Dalchun real time monitoring stations in Namhan river. These characteristics were analyzed with the water quality of rainy and nonrainy periods. Input data of the water quality forecasting models that they were constructed by neural network and neuro-fuzzy was chosen as the reasonable data, and water quality forecasting models were applied. LMNN (Levenberg-Marquardt Neural Network), MDNN (MoDular Neural Network), and ANFIS (Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System) models have achieved the highest overall accuracy of TOC data. LMNN and MDNN model which are applied for DO, TN, TP forecasting shows better results than ANFIS. MDNN model shows the lowest estimation error when using daily time, which is qualitative data trained with quantitative data. If some data has periodical properties, it seems effective using qualitative data to forecast.

Electric load forecasting is essential for effective power system planning and operation. Complex and nonlinear relationships exist between the electric loads and their exogenous factors. In addition, time-series load data has non-stationary characteristics, such as trend, seasonality and anomalous day effects, making it difficult to predict the future loads. This paper proposes a locally-weighted polynomial neural network (LWPNN), which is a combination of a polynomial neural network (PNN) and locally-weighted regression (LWR) for daily shortterm peak load forecasting. Model over-fitting problems can be prevented effectively because PNN has an automatic structure identification mechanism for nonlinear system modeling. LWR applied to optimize the regression coefficients of LWPNN only uses the locally-weighted learning data points located in the neighborhood of the current query point instead of using all data points. LWPNN is very effective and suitable for predicting an electric load series with nonlinear and non-stationary characteristics. To confirm the effectiveness, the proposed LWPNN, standard PNN, support vector regression and artificial neural network are applied to a real world daily peak load dataset in Korea. The proposed LWPNN shows significantly good prediction accuracy compared to the other methods.

In this study the validities of runoff prediction methods are reviewed around ESP (Ensemble Streamflow Prediction) techniques. The improvements of runoff predictions on Yongdam river basin are evaluated by the comparison of different prediction methods including ESP incorporated with qualitative meteorological outlooks provided by meteorological agency as well as the runoff forecasting based on the analysis of the historical rainfall scenarios. As a result it is assessed that runoff predictions with ESP may give rise to more accurate results than the ordinary historical average runoffs. In deed the latter gave the mean of yearly absolute error as to be 60.86 MCM while the errors of the former ones amounted to 44.12 MCM (ESP) and 42.83 MCM (ESP incorporated with qualitative meteorological outlooks) respectively. In addition it is confirmed that ESP incorporated with qualitative meteorological outlooks could improve the accuracy of the results more and more. Especially the degree of improvement of ESP with meteorological outlooks shows rising by 10.8% in flood season and 8% in drought season. Therefore the methods of runoff predictions with ESP can be further used as the basic forecasting information tool for the purpose of the effective watershed management.
It is important to improve the forecasting accuracy of one-year-ahead seasonal factors in order to produce seasonally adjusted series of the following year. In this paper, seasonal factors of 8 monthly Korean economic time series are examined and forecast based on the functional principal component regression. One-year-ahead forecasts of seasonal factors from the functional principal component regression are compared with other forecasting methods based on mean absolute error (MAE) and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE). Forecasting seasonal factors via the functional principal component regression performs better than other comparable methods.
In this paper, the importance of input factors of a DNN (Deep Neural Network) PM2.5 forecasting model using LRP(Layer-wise Relevance Propagation) is analyzed, and forecasting performance is improved. Input factor importance analysis is performed by dividing the learning data into time and PM2.5 concentration. As a result, in the low concentration patterns, the importance of weather factors such as temperature, atmospheric pressure, and solar radiation is high, and in the high concentration patterns, the importance of air quality factors such as PM2.5, CO, and NO2 is high. As a result of analysis by time, the importance of the measurement factors is high in the case of the forecast for the day, and the importance of the forecast factors increases in the forecast for tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. In addition, date, temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure all show high importance regardless of time and concentration. Based on the importance of these factors, the LRP_DNN prediction model is developed. As a result, the ACC(accuracy) and POD(probability of detection) are improved by up to 5%, and the FAR(false alarm rate) is improved by up to 9% compared to the previous DNN model.
With the development of renewable energy sector, the importance of solar energy is continuously increasing. Solar radiation forecasting is essential to accurately solar power generation forecasting. In this paper, we used time series models (ARIMA, ARIMAX, seasonal ARIMA, seasonal ARIMAX, ARIMA GARCH, ARIMAX-GARCH, seasonal ARIMA-GARCH, seasonal ARIMAX-GARCH). We compared the performance of the models using mean absolute error and root mean square error. According to the performance of the models without exogenous variables, the Seasonal ARIMA-GARCH model showed better performance model considering the problem of heteroscedasticity. However, when the exogenous variables were considered, the ARIMAX model showed the best forecasting accuracy.

In this study, a novel improved second order Radial Basis Function Neural Network based method with excellent scheduling capabilities is used for the dynamic prediction of short and long-term energy required applications. The effectiveness and the reliability of the algorithm are evaluated using training operations with New England-ISO database. The dynamic prediction algorithm is implemented in Matlab and the computation of mean absolute error and mean absolute percent error, and training time for the forecasted load, are determined. The results show the impact of temperature and other input parameters on the accuracy of solar Photovoltaic load forecasting. The mean absolute percent error is found to be between 1% to 3% and the training time is evaluated from 3s to 10s. The results are also compared with the previous studies, which show that this new method predicts short and long-term load better than sigmoidal neural network and bagged regression trees. The forecasted energy is found to be the nearest to the correct values as given by England ISO database, which shows that the method can be used reliably for short and long-term load forecasting of any electrical system.
The number of patent application filing for a specific technology has a good relation with the technology's life cycle and future industry development on that area. So industry and governments are highly interested in forecasting the number of patent application filing in order to take appropriate preparations in advance. In this paper, a new method based on the bidirectional long short-term memory(LSTM), a kind of recurrent neural network(RNN), is proposed to improve the forecasting accuracy compared to related methods. Compared with the Bass model which is one of conventional diffusion modeling methods, the proposed method shows the 16% higher performance with the Korean patent filing data on the five selected technology areas.

Streamflow forecasting plays a crucial role in water resource control, especially in highly urbanized areas that are very vulnerable to flooding during heavy rainfall event. In addition to providing the accurate prediction, the evaluation of effects and importance of the input predictors can contribute to water manager. Recently, machine learning techniques have applied their advantages for modeling complex and nonlinear hydrological processes. However, the techniques have not considered properly the importance and uncertainty of the predictor variables. To address these concerns, we applied the GA-BART, that integrates a genetic algorithm (GA) with the Bayesian additive regression tree (BART) model for hourly streamflow forecasting and analyzing input predictors. The Jungrang urban basin was selected as a case study and a database was established based on 39 heavy rainfall events during 2003 and 2020 from the rain gauges and monitoring stations. For the goal of this study, we used a combination of inputs that included the areal rainfall of the subbasins at current time step and previous time steps and water level and streamflow of the stations at time step for multistep-ahead streamflow predictions. An analysis of multiple datasets including different input predictors was performed to define the optimal set for streamflow forecasting. In addition, the GA-BART model could reasonably determine the relative importance of the input variables. The assessment might help water resource managers improve the accuracy of forecasts and early flood warnings in the basin.
