Corrosion of metallic structures arises when an electric current flows from the metal into the electrolyte such as soil and water. The potential difference across the metal-electrolyte interface, the driving force for the corrosion current, can emerge due to a variety of temperature, pH, humidity and resistivity etc.. With respect to a given structure, a stray current is to be defined as a current flowing on a structure that is not part of the intended electrical circuit. Stray currents are caused by other cathodic protection installations, grounding systems and welding posts, referred to as steady state stray currents. But most often traction systems like railroads and tramlines are responsible for large dynamic stray currents. This type of stray current is generally results from the leakage of return currents from large DC traction systems that are grounded or have a bad earth-insulated return path. This paper investigates the reports, which is made for protecting the electrical corrosion by the DC traction stray current before the construction period.

The submarine cable for Yongsu wave power plant was cut in 2014 winter. This study investigated the probability of high-wave occurrence exceeding the 50-year return period and the underestimation of armor unit weight used to protect the cable. The observation data from KMA buoy and the hindcast wave data were reviewed to determine the return period of wave height during the winter. In order to investigate the armor unit weight of cable-protection, we calculated the required weight of armor unit using not only Design Standard for Harbor and Fishery Port, but also the previous researches for the wave with large incident angle. As a result, it appeared that the high wave exceeding the 50-year return period did not occur during the winter of 2014 and the armor unit weight of the cable protection was not sufficient to sustain the obliquely incident wave, which induced the cable protection failure.
Purpose: This review article was written to determine the effects of parameters characterizing a hard contact lens (RGP included), such as BCs, diameters, edge angles, on the time interval for tight fitted lens to return to the equilibrium when it was decentered from blinking. Methods: A mathematical formulation was established to relate or calculate the restoring forces and thickness of lacrimal layer beneath the cornea with the various lens parameters when the tight fitted lens was decentered from blinking. Based on this formulation the differential equations and their numerical solution program were set up to describe the time dependence of the lens on the position and to estimate the time for the lens's return to the equilibrium after blink. Results: It is found that the time interval for the tight fitted lens to return to the equilibrium decreases as either the BC decreases or the diameter increases because both the reduction in BC and increase in diameter result in the increase in the lacrimal layer thickness between the lens and cornea increase which yielded the lowering of the viscous friction in the lens motion. As the edge angle of tight fitted lens increases the time for recentering decreases due to the increase in restoring force without change in lacrimal thickness beneath the lens. In the case of flat fitted hard lens (RGP included), the lacrimal layer thickness under the lens increases as either BC or diameter increases which results in reduction in viscous friction so that the time for the lens's return to the equilibrium were to decrease. The edge angle of flat fitted lens does not affect the lens motion. Conclusions: The effect of BCs on the lens motion (time to approach the equilibrium) was concluded to be significant with both tight and flat fitted lens where its results are contrary with each other. The edge angle of lens only affects the motion in tight fitted lenses.
The plunger speed of solenoid actuator is affected by mass of plunger magnetic motive force. inductance, and return spring. These factors are not independent but related with each other according to design characteristics of solenoid actuator So, it is impossible to change the designed value for the purpose of increasing plunger speed. In this paper, we performed the FEM analysis for non-magnetic ring which is used for increasing attraction force and plunger speed by concentration of effective magnetic flux, and also performed simulation for dynamic characteristics of plunger. And, we proved the propriety of these by experiments.
Objective: Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) has been considered the primary treatment for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injured patient. However, there is little biomechanical evidence regarding bilateral knee joint biomechanics during landing and cutting task after ACLR. Method: Eighteen females with ACLR participated in this investigation. Double leg jump landing (DLJL) and single leg jump cut (SLJC) biomechanics were assessed. Results: During DLJL, the healthy knee showed greater knee valgus angle at initial contact ($^{\circ}$) compared to the injured knee (Injured: $2.93{\pm}2.59$, Healthy: $4.20{\pm}2.46$, t=2.957, p=0.009). There was a significant difference in anterior tibial shear force ($N{\times}N^{-1}$) with greater in the injured knee (Injured: $1.41{\pm}0.39$, Healthy: $1.30{\pm}0.35$, t=2.201, p=0.042). During SLJC, injured knee showed greater knee extension moment ($N^*m{\times}[N^*m]^{-1}$) compared to healthy knee (Injured: $0.51{\pm}0.19$, Healthy: $0.47{\pm}0.17$, t=2.761, p=0.013). However, there was no significant differences between the knees in the other variables. Conclusion: ACLRfemales exhibited a greater knee valgus angle at initial contact and lesser anterior tibial shear force on the healthy knee during double leg jump landing. In addition, ACLR females showed a greater knee extension moment on the injured knee during single leg jump cut.

To promote the application of reliability-based design within the Korean coastal engineering community, the author conducted reliability analyses and optimized the design of a vertical-type breakwater, considering multiple limit states in the seas off of Pusan and Gunsan - two representative ports in Korea. In this process, rather than relying on design waves of a specific return period, the author intentionally avoided such constraints. Instead, the author characterized the uncertainties associated with wave force, lift force, and overturning moment - key factors significantly influencing the integrity of a vertical-type breakwater. This characterization was achieved by employing a probabilistic model derived from the frequency analysis results of long-term in-situ wave data. The limit state of the vertical-type breakwater encompassed sliding, overturning, and collapse failure, with the close interrelation between wave force, lift force, and moment described using the Nataf joint probability distribution. Simulation results indicate, as expected, that considering only sliding failure underestimates the failure probability. Furthermore, it was shown that the failure probability of vertical-type breakwaters cannot be consistently secured using design waves with a specific return period. In contrast, breakwaters optimally designed to meet the reliability index requirement of 𝛽-3.5 to 4 consistently achieve a consistent failure probability across all sea areas.

The steering wheel of a vehicle has a typical characteristic of automatically returning to its neutral state when the driver releases it. Steering returnability originated from the tire forces and kingpin moments. It is proportional to the reaction torque that is generated through the rack and column, which are dependent on suspension and steering geometry. It is also important to accurately predict and design it because steering returnability is related to steering performance. In this study, a detailed multibody dynamics model of a vehicle was designed by using ADAMS/Car and simulated for steering returnability. In addition, a tolerance analysis of the chassis system in terms of part dimension and properties has been performed in order to minimize the design parameters. The sensitivity of the selected design parameters was then analyzed via Design of Experiments(DOE). As a result, we were able to obtain the main parameters through a contribution analysis. It can be used to predict steering returnability and improve its performance, which is represented by the angle of restoration and laterality.
This study analyzed the factors influencing the choice of new farming type in order to prepare the countermeasures against structural changes of farm labor force. The analytical model was the multinomial logit model(MNL). The test for Independence and Irrelevance Alternatives(IIA) assumption in MNL shows that the IIA assumption in our data is rejected. Alternatively, we chose the multinomial probit model(MNP) that does not assume IIA. Data were obtained from 2010 census of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Statistics Korea. New farming types are succession(13.9%), return-to-farming(45.0%), part-time-farming(32.5%) and etc(8.6%). Analysis results showed that the characteristics of farms, commodity, management, and region influenced the choice of new farming type. This study is expected to help policy makers to produce support policies by new farming types in order to increase the number of new farmers and to make them easier to settle down in agriculture.

High-temperature superconducting rotors offer advantages in terms of output-to-weight ratio and efficiency compared to conventional phase conduction motors or generators. The rotor can be cooled by conduction cooling, which attaches a cryocooler, and by refrigerant circulation, which uses circulating liquid or gas neon, helium and hydrogen. Recent work has focused on environmental issues and on high-temperature superconducting motors cooled with liquid hydrogen that can be combined with fuel cells. However, to ensure smooth supply and return of the cryogenic cooling fluid, a cryogenic rotational coupling between the rotating and stationary parts is necessary. Additionally, the development of a sealing structure to minimize fluid leakage applicable to the coupling is essential. This study describes the design and performance evaluation of a non-contact sealing method, specifically a labyrinth seal, which avoids power loss and heat load caused by friction in contact sealing structures. The seal design incorporates a spiral flow path to reduce leakage using centrifugal force, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations were conducted to analyze the flow path and rotational speed. A performance evaluation device was configured and employed to evaluate the designed seal. The results of this study will be used to develop a cryogenic rotational coupling with supply and return flow paths for cryogenic applications.
