This experiment was carried out to investigate effect of plant density on yield and quality of corn at the forage experimental field, grassland and forage division, National Livestock Research Institute, RDA, Suwon eom 1996 to 1997. The two corn hybrids, P 3352 and G 4743, were grow at plant density of 67,000; 71,000; 83,000 ; 89,000 and 95,000 plantha in 60,70 and 75-an spaced rows. At the low density, plant and ear height were decreased but ear length and weight were increased. Plant density had little effect on the tasseling date, silking date and ear ratio to total dry matter. The total dry matter yield of two hybrids was increased kom 15,294 to 18,996 in P 3352 hybrid and 15,881 to 21,386kglha in G 4743, respectively, by decreasing plant density. Plant density had little effect on the ADF(acid detergent fiber), NDF (neutral detergent fiber) and CP(crude protein) concentrations, but the quality of late maturity hybrid, G 4743, was higher than that of early maturity hybrid, P 3352. The result of this study indicate that 67,000 plantlha plant density was recommendable for machanization and maximum DM yield of corn.

This experiment was carried out to investigate to adaptability of forage rape(Brassica napus oleifera) and the determine its proper sowing time for a second cropping on the fallow field after sweet corn yield in the Hongchon area The forage rape, Ramon was sown at intervals of about ten days given eight different sowing times as treatments the early August to the middle October 1988. Plant height and DM yield were significantly higher for the early August(P<0.05) than for the other sowing times. Crude protein contents of the early August, mid August, mid September and late September were higher(P<0.05) 26.5, 24.3, 27.1 and 30.9% as much as that of the late August(l4.9%), respectively. Sowing time having high content of crude fiber shown low content of crude protein. Yields of crude protein were 3.52, 2.36, IAltha in the early, mid and late August, respectively. The highest crude protein yield was shown in the early August(P<0.05). Crude fiber yield was higher in early, mid and late August than in the other sowing times. These results indicate that forage rape sown in the early August as a second cmpping on the fallow field after sweet corn yield in Hongchon area, could be used as the high quality forage.

This experiment was conducted in 1992 and 1993 at the forage experimental field, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Seoul National University, Suweon to determine timing of rye(Secde cemde L.) harvest and residue chemical treatment prior to tillage in minimizing the adverse effects of the rye residue on growth and yield of succeeding corn(Zea muys L.). Eight treatments were established in 1993 which included four treatments such as no paraquat (1, l'diiethyl- 4, 4'-bipyridinium dichloride), paraquat treatment at 10, 23, and both 23 and 10 days prior to tillage when rye was harvested on April 14, and another four treatments such as no paraquat, paraquat treatment at 1, 5 and 10 days prior to tillage when rye was harvested on April 26. No paraquat treatment significantly resulted in reductions in corn plant height on June 3 and 10 when rye was harvested on April 14, but differences in the plant height and leaf number of corn among treatments were generally nonsignificant. Corn LA1 and silk emergence were not affected by paraquat treatment times regardless of rye harvested dates, but silk emergence was delayed by 1 to 2 days with no paraquat when rye harvested on April 14. Corn dry matter and TDN yields were significantly increased by paraquat treatment at 10 and 5 days prior to tillage treatment when rye was harvested on April 14 and 26, respectively, but other agronomic characteristics such as dry matter percentage, ear percent to total dry matter, and stover and ear yields of corn at harvest showed little or no response to paraquat treatment times.

The growth characteristics and yield per unit area of two cropping systems, corn monoculture and 'wrnsoybean intercropping, were compared and the obtained results were as follows; 1.The two cultivation systems were not significantly different in leaf length, leaf width and length of internode at harvesting time. 2.The weight of stalk and the leaves of a plant were decreased with maturity, while the weight of ear was markedly increased. The patterns of relative ratio of each components were essentialy same in each cultivation systems. In corn monoculture, the percentages of stalk, leaf, and ear at final harvesting stage were 22.9, 13.7, and 63.4 and in corn-soybean intercropping, they were 21.8, 10.9, and 67.3 respectively. 3.Dry matter yield per unit area (kg/lOa) of intercropped corn at yellow stage was similar to that of monocultured corn (1, 483 kg/ 10a vs 1, 509 kg/ 10a). At ripe stage, however, the dry matter yield of intercropped plant was more than that of monocultured (1, 679 vs 1, 660 kg/ 10a). 4.The same pattern was observed in organic matter yield.
This study was carried out to investigate the nutrient value and yield response of corn, barley, and sudangrass by the application of anaerobic liquid fertilizer in two tidal land soil in order to design the resource recycling agricultural system between livestock and forage crop cultivation in a environment friendly agricultural region. Forage crop yields at reclaimed tidal soil during were at the level of 64~76% comparing with forage crop yields at upland soil in the cropping system of corn, barley, and sudangrass. And yields of forage crops were in the order of barley > corn > sudangrass in the cultivated cropping system for 2 year. Relative feed values (RFVs) of forage crops were 88%~106% for corn, 90%~111% for barley, and 91%~113% for sudangrass, and the carrying capacity of beef cattle (Hanwoo) was 5.8~8.6 head/year/ha for the corn-barley cropping system of one year, and 4.8~6.7 head/year/ha for the barley-sudangrass cropping system of one year. Also, carrying capacity of beef cattle (Hanwoo) was highest in the application level of anaerobic liquid fertilizer 200%.

This experiment was carried out to know adaptability and forage production and quality of corn hybrid for silage at paddy field from 2007 to 2008 at Chungnam province. Growth, forage production and quality of silage corn showed more well drained condition than poorly drained condition at paddy field. Among growth characteristics, 'Kwangpyongok' and 'DK697' hybrids were somewhat strong for waterlogging, then and good at stay green, lodging, disease and insect resistance. Fresh yield of 'DK697' hybrid at poorly drained paddy field was the highest as 32,610 kg per ha among corn hybrids. The dry yield of 'P32P75' hybrid at poorly drained paddy field was the highest as 14,910 kg per ha The result of this study showed that 'P32P75', 'DK697', 'Kangdaok' and 'Kwangpyongok' hybrids had good growth characters and forage productivity at poorly drained paddy field and dry matter yield at poorly drained paddy field was 65.6% level compared with well drained paddy field.

No comprehensive tillage system of corn (Zea mays L.) has been conducted in Korea. Therefore, this experiment was carried to determine soil characteristics, weed and forage production in tillage system of corn. Plot was allotted to one of four treatments in a randomized block design using tillage system. The four treatments were (T1) conventional tillage, plow and rotary till, (T2) rotary till, (T3) disk till, and (T4) no-till system. In soil characteristics before planting and after harvest of corn, pH and organic matter at planting date was higher than at harvest date, however, there were no difference among tillage system. Days from planting to silking of no-till was the longest among tillage system. Lodging resistance of disk and no-till were higher than conventional and rotary till due to its thicken stem diameter. Main weed in corn field are barnyard grass (Echinochloa crusgall), velvetleaf(Abutilon avicennae), crabgrass (Digitatia saguinalis), and redroot pigweed (Amaranthus retroflexus). Weed population was lower in no-till than others tillage system. Dry matter (DM) content and ear percentage of conventional and rotary till were higher than others in corn field. However, DM and total digestible nutrients (TDN) yields of disk and no-till were higher than those of conventional and rotary till. Therefore, disk and no-till are more suitable in corn silage system because of high lodging resistance and forage yield, and low weed population.

Multiple cropping system is an important agricultural system in Korea, which is significant to increase forage yield and promote agricultural economic development. This experiment was carried out to develop triple cropping systems (winter cereals crop for forage - silage corn - summer oats) for maximum year-around forage production at paddy field in southern region. We also to select a winter forage crop to determine corn planting time, and to examine the forage productivity and feed value of summer cultivated oat, which was planted after corn cultivation. When winter cereal crops for forages are harvested in accordance with and corn planter, the fresh yield and dry matter yield of rye were 32.0 ton/ha and 5.8 ton/ha, respectively, showing higher yielding compared to other winter crops. Corn silage as summer crop was showed the fresh yield and dry matter yield of 72.1 ton/ha and 20.2 ton/ha, respectively. In the feed value, crude protein and TDN contents were 7.4% and 69.3%, respectively. They was showed higher productivity and feed value. The heading date of High-speed oat was October 10, and its fresh yield and dry matter yield were 37.6 ton/ha and 8.0 ton/ha, respectively. As a feed value, crude protein and TDN content was 11.4% and 59.1%, respectively. Therefore, triple cropping systems for the production of forage all throughout the year are possible with the introduction of summer oats in the southern region, and rye could be the most suitable winter forage crops for triple cropping systems.

This experiment was conducted to enhance nutritional value of whole crop corn silage and increase mixture levels of broiler excreta by adding of corn meal. Treatments were included non mixture(control), adding 10, 20, 30% of broiler excreta and adding 10, 20, 30% of broiler excreta and corn meal as a fresh matter basis, respectively. One liter laboratory silos were prepared. The characteristics of fermentation and micro-organisms during the silage process were assessed. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. The crude fiber, NDF and ADF contents were high in whole crop corn(P(O.Ol), crude protein and crude ash contents were high in the broiler excreta(P<0.05), and NFE content was high in corn meal (P< 0.05). 2. Crude protein content of silage was increased(I'$NH_3$-N contents of silage were markedly increased with increasing levels of broiler excreta and corn meal, and was the highest in the 30% broiler excreta treatment(P$meal$ <0.05), and Flieg's value gains "very good" by showing organic acids. 5. Numbers of total bacteria and lactobacilli were $10^5$ to $10^7$ and $10^5$ to $10^6$ , respectively, and were similar in all treatment. Colliform was all but annihilated in the treatment with mixture of broiler excreta and corn rneal.orn rneal.

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of winter forage rye and green manure hairy vetch on soil mineral nitrogen and corn nitrogen uptake. Soil nitrate at corn seeding decreased slightly with cultivation of winter rye, but soil nitrate did not decreased by cultivation of winter hairy vetch. Soil nitrate nitrogen increased 60~70 kgN/ha higher by hairy vetch green manure than winter rye and fallow at 6-leaf and harvest stage of corn, respectively, and much soil nitrate nitrogen such as 85, 125 kgN/ha was remained at N fertilizer 100, 200 kgN/ha of hairy vetch green manure at harvesting time, respectively. Corn yield was not different among treatments of winter crop and N rate, but nitrogen concentration of corn stover increased by hairy vetch green manure. Increase of total corn nitrogen uptake by hairy vetch green manure was 50~60 kgN/ha compared with winter rye and fallow. It is thought that basal fertilizer nitrogen 100 kgN/ha could be reduced by hairy vetch green manure in considering soil nitrate and nitrogen uptake at harvesting time.
