Antibacterial Effects of Extracts of Thuja Orientalis cv Aurea Nana Cones against Food-spoilage and Food-borne Pathogens

  • BACKGROUND: Nowadays, Chemical antiseptics have become great problems for health and environmental, so that developing of new substitutes for chemical antiseptics is more and more important. Natural product is a kind of environment-friendly additive that could be used as antiseptic in food industry. Thuja orientalis cv Aurea Nana is a gymnospermous plant of the family Cupressaceae, native to northwestern China and widely naturalised elsewhere in Korea and Japan. This study was aimed to investigate the antibacterial potential of various organic extracts from T. orientalis cones against some food-borne and food-spoilage bacteria. METHODS AND RESULTS: Hexane extract (HE), chloroform extract (CE), ethyl acetate extract (EAE) and methanol extract (ME) were obtained from female cones of T. orientalis. The antibacterial activities of various extracts were tested by standard agar diffusion and minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) against five gram-positive and six gram-negative bacteria. Cell viability and morphology change of L. monocytogenes ATCC 10943 treated with hexane extract were also observed. The various extracts displayed remarkable antibacterial effects against all the gram-positive bacteria but did not show any effect against the gram-negative bacteria. Hexane extract has the highest inhibitory effect on cell viability of L. monocytogenes ATCC 10943. SEM observation also demonstrated the damaging effect of the hexane extract on the morphology of L. monocytogenes ATCC 10943 at the minimum inhibitory concentration. CONCLUSION(s): The tested gram-positive bacteria were significantly inhibited by organic extracts of T. orientalis cone. Hexane extract was the most potent against Listeria monocytogenes ATCC 10943, as evidenced by the lowest MIC level and the complete inhibition of cell viability within shortest exposure time, along with SEM observation.

  • 농림수산식품 산업은 기존의 생산 중심의 1차 산업을 탈피하여 미래 신성장동력 산업으로의 도약을 목표로 농업 R&D 패러다임의 전면적인 전환을 도모하고 있으며, 특히 농생명자원을 활용한 생명산업 등의 육성을 주요 과제로 선정하고 범부처 청 차원에서 R&D 지원을 강화하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 생명산업의 핵심자원인 농생명자원의 확보 관리 및 활용 등 전 단계에 걸친 국가 R&D 정책, 기술개발 전략, 사업 추진현황, 성과 등에 대한 실증분석을 통해 문제점을 도출하고 실용화 조기 달성을 위한 개선방안을 제안하고자 한다. 궁극적으로 제안된 개선방안으로부터 농생명자원 R&D 분야의 정부/민간, 부처(청) 내 역할분담 및 협력방안을 제시함으로써, 정부 R&D 투자의 전략성 효율성을 강화하고 적극적인 민간기업의 참여를 통한 생명산업의 산업화 성공사례 조기 달성에 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

  • The purpose of this study is to show probability of alternate food by using edible insects through the reports (Edible insects: Future prospects for food and feed security) edited by WFO (World Food Organization). We were carried out to develop the functional meat new product using Mealworm (Tenebrio molitor lavare) and Chicken breast. People's interest to the healthy, low-calories food is growing up, the Foodservice industry is developing and making Functional food, which helps to a sale strategy. Insects have played an important role as human food throughout history, especially in Africa, Asia and Latin America. A rapid increase in the human population is expected in the second half of the 21 century, which will lead to lower availability of food, especially animal protein As the problem of food supply and demand has come to the fore with climate change, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has noticed edible insects as future food resources in order to prepare against the shortage of protein source. Recently consumers, especially patients have doubts about safety of raw materials for food. To overcome these limitations, I propose an enteral nutrition formula using edible insects as a raw material.

  • Competitiveness of a nation can be explained by the concept of national innovation systems(NIS). As components of NIS, industry clusters become the issue in analysing innovative activity of an economy. Innovative clusters can be identified by the innovation survey or other economic activity data. Input-output Table was used widely as a tool for quantitative analysis, This paper classifies seven clusters in Korean industry based on inter-industries trade of intermediary goods and services, Maximizing procedure method is used in analysing input-output table. Identified clusters are Textiles/chemicals, Construction/Material, Instrument/Equipment, Automobile, Services, Energy, and Agriculture/Food cluster, Among these clusters, some different characteristics in R&D portfolios are detected. R&D investment characteristics of each cluster give us significant implications in understanding innovative dynamics of Korean industry.

  • 현재 지구는 지구 온난화, 기상이변의 이상신호로 인해 전 세계적으로 자연과 인간의 상생이 중요하며, 인간의 먹거리까지 친환경 웰빙 음식에 관심이 급증한다. 우리나라는 지난 10여 년 동안 유기농업이 발전 되어왔으나 선진국에 비교해 미비하나 향후 전 세계 유기농 시장이 확대될 것이다. 2015년 세계유기농산업엑스포가 충북 괴산군에서 9월 18일부터 10월 11일 까지 개최됨에 따라 우리나라 유기농업이 발전할 것이다. 성공적이며 안전한 엑스포가 되어 안녕강국 대한민국이 되기에 일조하는 방향으로 주요 지표들을 개발하였는바, 5개 부문의 위험성 감쇄가 주안점이며, 녹색보전, 경제성장, 사회발전, 과학기술예술성, 자율자발성부문이다.

  • To evaluate the historical changes and future counterplan of food culture in Korea . the following were surveyed : the scale of foodseivice industry. the consumer attitude on functional health food. the fancy and using frequency of fastfood in the growing generation, the actual state on use of imported food. consumer opinions in selecting factor of functional and organic foods. the actual state and consumer attitude on the imported foods, long-term prospect of food service industry in futures. the production of food rubbishes and their reusing rates. the production scales and toxicity problems of agricultural medicines including the postharvest agricultural medicine. the consumer anxiety such as potential environmental and human health risks associated with GMOs (genetically modified organisms) and the import state of GMOs, long-term prospect of population increase in world, and aged population of over 65 years and their social index in Korea, self-supporting rate and national security of food in Korea. the prospect for demand and supply of grains in Korea and world. decrease of the farming population and the decrease problem of agricultural productivity. the problem on the introduction of direct payment system for a farmhouse, and other social problem etc. In cases of 1996, self-supporting rate of food in Korea was the lowest as $26.4{\%}$ in the world but those countries such as USA, UK France, Canada and Denmark were $134.0{\%}\;122.0{\%}$. $190.0{\%}$. $179.0{\%}\;and\;134.0{\%}$, respectively. in 1997 Therefore. our food security appeared as a very serious problem in a viewpoint of the national security That's why this very important Symposium will be held by agriculture-related three Societies to see the last year of 1999 out and the new millennium in.

The analysis of consumers' satisfaction about the 6th industry antenna shops

  • The 6th industrialization, which is the policy strategy to combine the 1st, 2nd, 3rd agro-food industries in order to create synergy effects, is one of the most important policy strategies for the Korean government. Local governments as well as the central government, especially the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, have introduced various specific programs for the 6th industrialization. Among them, the 6th industry antenna shops located in Cheonan and Daejeon which were introduced by the Chungcheongnam-do Provincial Government to offer a better market place for 6th industry producers. However, few studies have been conducted to evaluate the performance of 6th industry antenna shops. The purpose of this paper is to analyze consumers' satisfaction of 6th industry antenna shops through survey and econometric modeling and to present some implications of the better operation of the 6th industry antenna shops. The results of the studies in this paper present some of the following findings: first, the overall level of satisfaction towards 6th industry antenna shops is high but consumers still claim some problems. Second, products which are sold at 6th industry antenna shops have important problems, including high prices and deficient product variety. Third, if these problems were fixed, the operation of 6th industry antenna shops would be successful and contribute to the development of 6th industrialization in Korea.

감 착즙액 첨가량과 가수량에 따른 감막걸리의 특성 (Characteristics Of Persimmon Makgeolli Based On The Amount Of Water And Persimmon Juice Added)

  • With the steady growth in the scale of the domestic traditional liquor industry, the interest in makgeolli has also been increasing. As the demand for makgeolli increases, interest in manufacturing differentiated makgeolli by adding additional raw materials such as fruits is increasing. In this study, makgeolli with low storage persimmon juice was manufactured, and the sweet taste of persimmon was imparted without adding sweeteners. Unsweetened, high-quality persimmon makgeolli with an alcohol content of 15% or more was manufactured and its quality characteristics were analyzed. Yeast was selected after producing fermented yeast by treating domestic isolated yeast and commercial yeast. Upon producing fermented yeast, persimmon makgeolli was manufactured by varying the amount of persimmon juice added to the fermented yeast. As a result of analyzing the quality characteristics of persimmon makgeolli, the pH was 4.02-4.25, the total acid (citric acid, %) was 0.30-0.43, the amino acidity (glycine, %) range was 0.05-0.15, and the alcohol content (%) was 15.64-18.48.(p<0.05). Reducing sugar (%) was 1.82-12.68 and total sugar (%) was 1.41-10.42, exhibiting a tendency to increase as the amount of reducing sugar and total sugar and the amount of juice added increased (p<0.05). Considering the sensory characteristics, a sample with 50% persimmon juice added showed a significantly higher residual sugar content, and the residual sugar content had a positive effect on the sensory characteristics. Therefore, 50% persimmon juice was added when making persimmon makgeolli. It is suitable for high-quality, non-sweetened persimmon makgeolli that preserves the taste of persimmon, which suits the consumers'taste.

미국의 바이오연료와 연구 동향 (Biofuel Industry and Recent Research in USA)

  • Demand for alternatives to petroleum is increasing the production of biofuels from food crops such as corn, soybeans, sorghum and sugarcane, etc. At least for the next 5 years, ethanol demand will be increased greatly in the United States and in the world. Presently, most ethanol produced in the United States is corn (Zea mays) ethanol. As a result, especially in the Americas and Southeast Asia, agricultural land is diverted to biofuel production. Even though biofuel industry has many advantage including national security, economical, energetical and sustainable impacts, it is driving grain prices up and creating considerable concern about the potential negative impacts on a wide range of food products that depend on gain : chicken, pork, beef, and dairy products such as milk, cheese, yoghurt, cream and ice cream. Feedstock crops are crops such as switchgrass(Panicum virgatum, L.), corn stover and grasses that can be used in industrial processes such as fermentation into alcohol fuels. Feedstock is no compete with food. Furthermore it is friendly environmental bioenergy crops. In Korea, with increasing demand for fossil fuels the exploration of alternative sources of liquid fuel is inevitable. I suggest Korea need to research and to develop actively on feedstock for biofuel production through this review.

한국농수산대학 졸업생 영농정착 성공 사례집의 Text Mining - 주요단어의 빈도 분석 및 word cloud - (Text Mining of Successful Casebook of Agricultural Settlement in Graduates of Korea National College of Agriculture and Fisheries - Frequency Analysis and Word Cloud of Key Words -)

  • 본 연구는 한농대에서 발간하는 청년 농어업인들의 우수한 영어·영농 정착사례에서 의미 있는 정보를 추출하고자 프로그램 R의 Text mining으로 주요단어를 추출하고 시각화를 위하여 word cloud를 작성하였다. 먼저 전체 표본에 대한 text mining 결과에서는 '대표', '이사', '생각', '자신', '시작', '마음', '노력' 등이 상위 50개 핵심 단어 가운데 빈도수가 높게 나타난 단어들이다. 이는 젊은 농부들이 회사의 경영주가 되기 위해서거나 또는 경영주로서 그들 스스로 생각하고 판단하고 추진하는 능력을 갖추고 있음을 표현이며 자기의 꿈을 버리지 않고 스스로 꿈꾸는 일을 헤쳐 나가는 모습의 표현이라 할 수 있다. '아버지', '부친' 및 '부모님' 등의 단어 빈도수가 높은 것은 부모협농과 승계농의 비율이 높은 경영형태의 영향이라 할 수 있으며, '한국농수산대학', '대학', '졸업', '공부' 등의 단어는 이들의 높은 교육의식을 나타낸 결과이며, '유기농'과 '친환경' 의 단어는 우수사례자들의 친환경 농업에 대한 관심도를 나타낸 결과라 할 수 있다. 또한 '판매', '체험' 등의 6차산업 관련어는 농어업·농어촌을 활성화시키기 위한 이들의 노력을 나타내는 결과라 할 수 있다. 한편 '인터넷', '블로그', '온라인', '홈페이지', 'SNS', 'ICT', '융복합' 및 '스마트' 등의 단어들은 비록 상위 50위 안에는 없었으나 이들 단어들이 빠지지 않고 추출된 결과는 영어·영농의 과학화·첨단화에 청년농부들의 관심이 높아지고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 다음으로 품목별 샘플에 대하여 빈도수가 상위 50위 이내인 주요단어를 그룹화 한 결과로서 축산, 채소 및 수산은 '시설', 식량작물은 '장비', '기계' 등의 빈도수가 높게 나타냈다. '친환경'은 채소작물과 식량작물에서 나타났으며, '유기농'은 채소, 식량작물, 과수에서 나타났다. 식량작물에서는 '우렁이'가 추출되었으며, 우수농수산물을 의미하는 '인증'은 수산에서만 나타났다. '6차산업' 관련단어로 '생산'은 모든 계열, '가공', '유통'은 과수, '체험'은 채소, 식량작물 및 과수에서 나타났다. 그리고 텍스트 마이닝으로 추출한 단어를 시각화하기 위하여 전체 샘플과 각 품목별로 word cloud를 작성하여 구조화되지 않은 비정형 텍스트인 우수사례들이 내포하고 있는 의미를 글자의 크기로 알 수 있도록 나타냈다.
