  • Phellinus linteus has been used as anti-tumor and immuno stimulating agents in folk remedies. From precipitate of MeOH ex. by activited guided fractionation. 5.8-epidioxy ergosta-6.22-dien-3ol. palmitic acid. linoleic acid, and methyl linolate. 3.4-dihydroxybenzoic acid methylester and 4-(3'4'-Dihydroxyphenyl)-3-butene-2one were isolated. DPPH method was used to examine of antioxidative activity of the isolated compounds. As the result, 3.4-dihydroxybenzoic acid methylester, and phenolic compound. 4-(3'4'-Dihydroxyphenyl) -3-butene-2one were found to be a scavenger of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrzyl radical. (omitted)

Recent research has been reported the effect of anticancer, antidiabetic, antimutagenic, antilipid peroxidation. We examined the antidiabetic activity of cultivated Cordyceps pruinosa on streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. The blood glucose level was recovered by treatment with Cordyceps pruinosa ethanol extract. The contents of GPT, total cholesterol and xanthine oxidase, glutathione peroxidase, catalase activities of the cytosol were significantly decreased as compared to the diabetic group. (omitted)

In the times of the interest in health improvement and spontaneous, natural healing ability of human body is getting increase, it is very meaningful to search the factors which consist of recognition to folk medicine. So in this study, we developed the questionaries on the basis of previous studies, researched the factors affecting the recognition to folk medicine using factor analysis, and tested statistically the difference of recognition character according to demo-statistical traits. As the result, the twenty-four measurable variables related to folk medicine are sorted to four factors, ie, health improvement factor, safety factor, psycholocial factor, and substitutional factor. And overall, the middle and senior ages, the forties to sixties, and higher-educated peoples have more experiences in folk medicine than the younger ages, below thirties and lower-educated peoples. • Currently, drug-induced liver injury (DILl) has been reported to be common cause of acute hepatitis, and oriental medicine and folk remedies are no exception. However, because many studies about DILl have been reported by western medical society. they has taken the initiative of DILl not only for western drugs but also herbs. So, academia of oriental medicine should make an effort to progress herb-related DILl studies. We describe a patient of acute liver injury which had been caused by comfrey, albizzia julibrissin, ulmus davidiana var. japonica, red ginseng. We hope that this report helps for studying the diagnosis and management of herb-derived DILl. and for establishing a standard of oriental therapy to DILL.

  • The various species of aconitum contain diterpene (C-20) and norditerpene (C-19) forms of the natural alkaloid aconitine that cause neurologic, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular symptoms. In chinese medicine, these plants has been used as drugs to treat pain, dyspepsia, cerebrovascular disease, and so on. Because the therapeutic window is narrow, poisoning may occur from unintentional exposure, with a variety of toxic effects such as arrhythmia, hypotension, paresthesia, paralysis, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Aconitine-containing folk remedies are widely used in Korea. We encountered two cases of ventricular arrhythmia in patients who ingested tablets, known as 'Wha-Pung-Dan' made with aconitine extracts and were subsequently admitted to the ED. A 42 year-old man who took 35 tablets presented with ventricualr tarchycardia, and 40 year-old woman who took 40 tablets showed premature ventricular contractions. Both patients were discharged normally without any complications after three days.

  • "Aheuichaulyo御醫撮要" was known to be published by Choi Jong-jun崔宗峻 in Korea高麗 Dynasty(A.D.1226), however its original copy is not available at the present. It was thought that Korean folk medicine and the remedies were recorded in this book, and these were recorded in "Euibangyoochui醫方類聚" published in Chosun朝鮮 dynasty(1445). "Euibangyoochui" is called a treasure-house of the knowledge of traditional oriental medicine which contains over 50,000 prescriptions and enormous amount of medical information. The restoration of "Aheuichaulyo" was possible during the process of establishment of data base work of "Euibangyoochui". "Aheuichaulyo" was restored as 132 chapters mainly from the related con tents of "Euibangyoochui" and partially from the contents of "Hyangyakjipsungbang鄕藥集成方" and "Boonmoononyukyihaebang分門瘟疫易解方" for the supplement.
