Multi-band Folded Monopole Internal Antenna for Mobile Handset Applications (이동통신 단말기용 다중대역 폴디드 모노폴 내장형 안테나)

  • In this paper, a multi-band folded planar monopole internal antenna for mobile handset applications is proposed. The proposed antenna has multi-resonances, which is different from a conventional folded monopole antenna, and it provides a wide bandwidth at high frequency bands. The measured impedance bandwidth (VSWR < 3) is 180 MHz and 1880 MHz in lower and higher frequency bands, respectively. The proposed antenna can effectively cover most wireless communication bands including CDMA, GSM, GPS, DCS, PCS, and W-CDMA, WiBro and S-DMB.

Folded Monopole Antenna Using the Rectangular Patch for Multi-band Wireless USB Dongle Applications (다중대역 무선 USB 동글 장치를 위한 사각 패치를 이용한 폴디드 모노폴 안테나)

  • We in order to use WLAN communication device planned wireless USB dongle internal antenna of 2.4 GHz/5.8 GHz band. So it uses square patch dual-wideband and quality is satisfactory and it designed print folded monopole antenna of the shape which is simple. The thickness of the antenna was fed by a $50{\Omega}$ coaxial cable feeding 1mm dielectric constant 4.4 FR4 substrate was used. The overall size of the antenna is $20mm{\times}50mm$. So the internal antenna is suitable. Measurement results of the fabricated antenna, the return loss of more than 10 dB in the two bands could be obtained. Radiation pattern has a maximum gain of 3.75 dBi value.

  • This paper presents a printed, wideband folded monopole antenna for laptop and tablet computer applications. The proposed antenna is designed to cover bandwidth(2.3~10.6 GHz) of Bluetooth, WiMAX, and UWB system by using the printed folded monopole antenna having asymmetrical line width coupling with a parasitic inverted- L element. Also, wireless LAN band(5.15~5.85 GHz) which interferes with UWB system is rejected by inserting half-wavelength open stub in the folded monopole antenna. -10 dB bandwidth of the fabricated wideband antenna is 2.27~10.6 GHz (4.7:1) and -10 dB band-rejected bandwidth is measured as 700 MHz(5.15~5.85 GHz, 12.72 %). The gain and efficiency of the antenna except for the rejected band are higher than 3.93 dBi and 91.89 % and are measured as -2 dBi and 14.65 % at 5.5 GHz which is band-rejected frequency. The size of the antenna is suitable to install for small space of tablet and laptop computers as 12.75(1 ${\lambda}$/10)${\times}$12(1 ${\lambda}$/11) $mm^2$(${\lambda}$ is free space wavelength at 2.3 GHz). Therefore, we verified that the designed antenna is appropriate for wideband antenna of tablet and laptop PC applications.

A Compact Folded Patch Antenna for Omni-Directional Radiation Patterns (전방향성 복사 패턴을 갖는 소형 평면 패치 안테나)

  • The design of a compact folded patch antenna with moderately broad bandwidth is presented in this paper. The proposed antenna has radiation characteristics that are similar to the conventional monopole antenna. However, since this antenna is designed in a planar form, it has smaller size than that of a conventional monopole antenna. We have investigated the resonance frequency and bandwidth characteristics of the proposed antenna by changing the antenna design parameters. The proposed planar form of a monopole antenna in this paper has 1.17 GHz bandwidth with a matching circuit at the center frequency of 6.05 GHz.

Closely Spaced Two-Element Folded-Dipole-Driven Quasi-Yagi Array

  • This paper presents a closely spaced two-element folded-dipole-driven quasi-Yagi array with low mutual coupling between adjacent elements. The antenna utilizes a T-junction power divider as the feeding network, with an input impedance of $50{\Omega}$. A microstrip-stub is added to the ground plane in the middle of the two elements to improve the mutual coupling characteristics. The folded dipole driver is connected to a $50{\Omega}$ microstrip line via a broadband microstrip-to-coplanar stripline transition with a quarter radial stub. A mutual coupling of less than -22 dB is measured between two folded-dipole-driven quasi-Yagi antennas with a center-to-center spacing of 30 mm ($0.55{\lambda}_0$ at 5.5 GHz). The proposed quasi-Yagi array yields a measured bandwidth of 4.75~6.43 GHz for the -10 dB reflection coefficient and a gain of 6.14~7.12 dBi within the bandwidth range.

  • A new internal antenna for GSM/DCS/Bluetooth application is proposed by using a folded loop resonator. Both feed leg and shorting leg are symmetrically implemented at the center of the folded loop, thus leading to produce resonances at integer frequencies of quarter wavelength. An open stub added at one end of the folded loop can reduce resonant frequencies. The open stub play a role in generating PIFA structure at a GSM band, thus increasing bandwidth, Two resonances at the GSM band are observed at folded ring and PIFA, respectively.

  • In this paper, we propose a internal antenna for wirless HDMI dongle device using the folded monopole structure. The proposed antenna is for 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz. The antenna optimized for parameters length, gap, width, and radius of semicircular of monopole antenna using the 'F' structure. To confirm the characteristics of the antenna parameters, HFSS from ANSYS Inc. was used for the analysis. We used an FR4 dielectric substrate with a dielectric constant of 4.4. The HDMI dongle size of the proposed antenna is $45{\times}20{\times}1mm$, and the size of the antenna area is $5{\times}20mm$. There is a value of return loss less then -10dB in 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz, band and the maximum antenna gain is -4.13dBi. The result proved the possibility of the practical using 'F' structure that came frin comparing and analyzing the measured and simulated data of the antenna.

Design and Implementation of Wideband Patch Antenna with Folded and Shorted Structure for 5 GHz WLAN (폴디드 구조와 단락 구조를 이용한 5 GHz 무선 랜용 광대역 패치 안테나 설계 및 구현)

  • In this paper, we present a wideband patch antenna with folded and shorted structure for 5 GHz WLAN(Wireless Local Area Network). The proposed antenna used folded and shorted structure in the rectangular patch for miniaturization and wide frequency bandwidth. The antenna was designed by using 3D simulation program, HFSS(High Frequency Structure Simulator) software of the Ansoft company and the implemented antenna was measured by using HP 8720c network analyzer and far field measurement chamber. Simulation result on the return loss shows fairly good characteristic of at least 13.41dB in whole frequency range of interests, and the 10dB bandwidth is 1,523MHz which shows wide bandwidth characteristic. And the simulated maximum gain of the proposed antenna is 6.57 dBi at 5.825GHz. Measured result for the 10dB bandwidth of the implemented folded and shorted structure antenna is 1,377 MHz. Measured maximum gain of the implemented antenna is 6.87dBi at 5.775GHz. Measured results for the implemented antenna showed applicable performances for the 5 GHz WLAN.

Miniaturized folded-slot antenna for 2.4 GHz ZigBee module (2.4GHz 지그비 모듈용 소형화된 폴디드 슬롯 안테나)

  • A microstrip-fed miniaturized folded-slot antenna that is cut at the finite ground plane edge for the size reduction is proposed as a ZigBee module operating in the 2.4 GHz frequency band, as specified by the IEEE standard 802.15.4. The antenna is fabricated within space limited to $35mm{\times}9mm$ on a $35mm{\times}35mm$ substrate, which is about the PCB size of a typical wireless ZigBee module. The measured impedance bandwidth and antenna gain are 2.37~2.49 GHz and 2.4 dBi respectively. The measured radiation patterns are similar to conventional folded-slot antennas and are also stable across the pass band. These properties and its compact structure help in making the antenna suitable for ZigBee module.

  • In this paper, the broadband cross monopole antenna is presented and the radiation characteristics are investigated. The presented broadband cross monopole antenna is composed of the cross monopole element and the folded short stub, which has a excellent band characteristics more than the existing cross monopole antenna. To conform the broadband characteristics of the presented antenna, the experimental antenna is designed, fabricated, and its radiation characteristics are measured in $1.75\sim2.655\;GHz$. It is shown that the designed antenna has the nondirectional pattern in the horizontal plane, the directional pattern in the vertical plane, VSWR less than 1.5, and gain in $2.17\sim4.87\;dBi$. From these results, the presented antenna is conformed as a broadband indoor antenna which can be used for PCS, WCDMA, Wibro, and satellite DMB band.
