  • The contact tip is higher the wear of resistance and the longer life are demanded to GMA welding process. In this study, four different contact tips with three different compositions by two wires were evaluated their wear resistance by measuring in every one hour the area of enlarged hole at the exit side during actual wleding. Experimental results clearly showed that the Cr-containing tips strengthened by precipitation hardening have much better resistance to wear than those made by work hardening. In addition, flux cored wire is excellent abrasion resistance test results showed. Based on these results, the domestic industry, the life of the contact tip to know will be used as basic data.

  • Various fluorides, i.e., CaF2, Na3AlF6, K2SiF6, MnF3, MgF2, were added to the flux cored wire, and their effects on the oxygen content of the weld metal were investigated. The investigation showed that the oxygen content of weld metal was not influenced by the type of metallic elements in the fluoride; rather, it was influenced by the stability of the arc during welding. While the wire containing MgF2 showed the most stable arc and the least amount of oxygen in the weld metal, the wire containing MnF3 showed the least stable arc and the greatest amount of oxygen. Since the deoxidation of the weld metal was not affected by the deoxidation elements, such as Ca and Mg, it was possible to predict the oxygen content of the weld metal by the equilibrium Si-Mn deoxidation thermodynamic model.

  • Recently, the production of oil and gas at the arctic ocean and offshore has been growing. Accordingly, S500 steel with the high tensile strength and excellent toughness has been used and flux cored wire that can be welded to the S500 has been required. In this study, we carried out observation of microstructures, mechanical properties and CTOD (crack tip openning displacement) in the weld zone that GMA (gas metal arc) welded with different component of $TiO_2$ flux core wire (the main components, rutile or Ti-slag) for S500 steel. Weld zone produced with Ti-slag flux cored wire has formed a enough acicular ferrite and shown excellent impact toughness at $-40^{\circ}C$, tensile strength at room temperature and CTOD at $-20^{\circ}C$. As a result, the developed flux cored wire was suitable for S500 steel.

  • Fracture toughness is an important parameter in designing offshore structures to ensure resistance to fracture at various temperatures. In this study, a series of experiments is carried out to obtain fracture toughness values (CTOD) of API 2W Gr.50B, welded using FCAW(Flux Cored Arc Weld). In particular, a comparison of absorbed impact energy and CTOD values are made with respect to two different welding groove shapes; double-V-groove and double-bevel-groove. Charpy impact tests are performed for specimens sampled near the root gap, and CTOD tests are carried out for three point bending specimens having the notch at weld zone. While Charpy impact test result is determined to be a good qualitative measure of fracture toughness, no quantitative correspondence between impact absorbed energy and CTOD values was found. Based on the experiment, it is observed that double-V-groove welds give lower transition temperature than those of double-bevel-groove.

  • It is well known that solidification cracking often occurs in welds of root pass for one-side welding under the conditions of high welding currents and speeds. In this study, the solidification in 590MPa class steel for pressure vessels SPPV490 was investigated by using flux-cored arc welding(FCAW) with 4 types of welding wires and welding conditions of 200∼280A and 2.8∼ 4.2mm/sec. In order to compared the result of cracking in SPPV490, 0.2%C steel for welded structure of SWS400 and 0.45%C steel for machine structural SM45C were also used as base metals. As the results, all the cracks formed in some welding conditions were observed near the center of weld bead. The solidification cracks were generally initiated near the upper surface of bead and propagated toward the inner part. The solidification cracking generally increased with welding current and welding speed in the same base metal and welding material. In cracking susceptibility, SPPV490 showed higher cracking susceptibility than SWS400 in all welding conditions and welding materials. It was considered that cracking susceptibility could not be evaluated with the hardness of weld metals. The cracking ratio increased with decreasing of a/b(a and b; the width of the upper surface and the back surface of the bead) as shape factor of bead. The cracking tendency with shape factor of bead was extended under the condition of higher welding currents.

  • Chloride ions in the alloy powder used as flux in Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) can cause pores on the bead surface of the welding metal to cause defects, or chloride remaining in the alloy powder can cause corrosion of the metal. Combustion-ion chromatography is mainly used to quantify the chloride ions in alloy powder, but there is a limitation in that the equipment is expensive and requires a high degree of expertise. Therefore, this study aims to find an easy and accurate quantification method in the field by comparing combustion-ion chromatography (C-IC), which is mainly used for chloride ion quantification of alloy powder, X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF), and potentiometric titration. In this article, magnesium-aluminum alloy powder is applied to the quantification of chloride ions because it is most commonly used as flux. This study confirmed that potentiometric titration can be applied to the quantification of chloride ions in the alloy powder in the industry field.

  • Since the wall thickness can be up to 6" or greater, welds must be made in many layers, each layer containing several passes. However, the welding time for the conventional welding processes such as SAW(Submerged Arc Welding) and FCAW(Flux Cored Arc Welding) can be required many hours. The aim of this paper is to develop a high speed welding system with multi-torch and laser vision sensor for increasing the production speed on the line and to remove the need for the operator so that the system can run automatically for the complete multi-torch multi-layer weld. It was shown that the developed laser vision sensor and analysis of arc blow for multi-torch were effective for multi-pass seam tracking and stable arc. A new automated multi-torch welding systems for thick wall applications has been proved in several production lines.

  • As the size of containership increased over 14,000TEU, thick steel plate with high strength has been used. The plate thickness increased over 70mm and yield strength of the steel plate was around $47kg_f/mm^2$. Many researchers reported that the thick welded plate has low crack arrest toughness. They noticed the crack arrest ability is dependent on the plate thickness. In other words, brittle crack propagates straightly along the welded line and make abrupt fracture in the thick plate which causes low $K_{ca}$. In this study, the other factors, especially welding heat input, to cause low crack arrest toughness was investigated for thick steel plate welds. EH grade steel plates were used in this study and 50 to 80 thick plates were tested to confirm thickness sensitivity. Electro gas welding (EGW) and flux cored arc welding (FCAW) were adopted to prepare the welded joints. Temperature gradient ESSO test was performed to measure $K_{ca}$ values with the variation of welding variables. As a result of this study, regardless of plate thickness, welding heat input to cause welding residual stress around crack path is a key factor to control the brittle crack propagation in welded joints.

In this paper proposed method is get the database to changing the input factor such as work angle, travelling angle, speed, CTWD. And, it is visualization to bead from extract to optimal morphological feature information to using the Neural Network algorithm. The database was building without error to extract data from automatic robot welder. Also, the Neural Network algorithm was set a dataset of the highest accuracy from verification process in many times. The bead was created in virtual reality from extract to morphological feature information. We were implementation to final shape of bead and overlapped in process by time to using bead generation algorithm and calibration algorithm for generate to same bead shape to real database in process of generating bead. The best advantage of virtual welding training, it can be get the many data to training evaluation. In this paper, we were representation bead to similar shape from generated bead to Flux Cored Arc Welding. Therefore, we were reduce the gap to virtual welding training and real welding training. In addition, we were confirmed be able to maximize the performance of education from more effective evaluation system.
