CNDO/2 and INDO calculations have been carried out on varying geometries of methyl chloro-and fluoro-formates. Results show that the configuration in which halogen atom is trans to methyl group is the most stable. Atomic charges and overlap population show that the trans form is stabilized by conjugation of carbonyl double bend with the unshared pairs of the ether oxygen and by electrostatic attraction of carbonyl oxygen to methyl group. Dipole moments of the trans forms agree reasonably well with the experimental values but showed that any generalizations made with dipole moments from bond moments should be accepted with considerable reservations.

Two fluoro-substituted 2-pyrazoline derivatives, 1-phenyl-3-(4-methoxyphenyl)-5-(4-fluorophenyl)-2-pyrazoline (1) and 1-phenyl-3-(4-methoxyphenyl)-5-(2-fluoro-phenyl)-2-pyrazoline (2) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV-Vis and fluorescence spectra. The crystal structure of 1 has been determined by X-ray single crystal diffraction. For the two compounds, density functional theory (DFT) calculations of the structures and natural population atomic charge analysis (NPA) have been performed at B3LYP/6-311G** level of theory. By using TD-DFT method, electron spectra of 1 and 2 have been predicted, which are very approximate with the experimental ones. Comparative studies on 1 and 2 indicate that the location change of fluorine atom in 5-position phenyl ring of 2-pyrazoline does not make significant change of geometries and electronic transition bands, but it leads to evident change of atomic charge distributions and peak intensities of UV and fluorescence spectra.
Novel 5'-deoxythreosyl purine phosphonic acid analogues containing a 2'-electropositive moiety such as fluorine atom, were designed and synthesized from commercially available 1,3-dihydroxy acetone. Condensation successfully proceeded from a glycosyl donor 6 under Vorbr$\ddot{u}$ggen conditions and cross-metathesis gave the desired phosphonate analogues 7a, 7b, 17a and 17b. The synthesized nucleoside phosphonic acid analogues 13, 16, 23, 26, 28 were subjected to antiviral screening against HIV-1. The bis(SATE) adenine analogue 28 exhibited significant in vitro activities against HIV-1.
Influences of alrylamino (R) substituents on the herbicidal activity ($pI_{50}$) of 1-(4-chloro-2-fluoro-5-propargyloxypheny)-3-(R)-thiourea analogues (1 ~ 35) against the barnyard grass (Echinochloa crusgalli) in the pre-emergence step were discussed quantitatively using comparative molecular field analysis (CoMFA) and comparative molecular similarity indices analysis (CoMSIA) as the three dimensional quantitative structure-activity relationship (3D-QSAR) method. The statistically most satisfactory CoMFA models for the herbicidal activity against the barnyard grass had the better predictability ($r^2{_{cv.}}$) and correlativity ($r^2{_{ncv.}}$) than those of CoMSIA models. The optimized CoMFA model 1($r^2{_{cv.}}$ = 0.531 & $r^2{_{ncv.}}$ = 0.931) with the sensitivity to the perturbation (${d_q}^{2'}{dr^2}_{yy'}$ = 1.081) and the prediction ($q^2$ = 0.475) produced by a progressive scrambling analyses were not dependent on chance correlation. And statistical qualities with the atom based fit alignment (AF) were slightly higher than those of the field fit alignment (FF). According to the optimized CoMFA model 1, the contribution ratio (%) of the steric field (76.9%) on the herbicidal activity of the Thioureas was three-fold higher than that of the electrostatic field (20.1%) and the hydrophobic field (3.0%) had the least influence. A steric favor group is on the vicinity of the nitrogen atom in alrylamino (R) substituent, and a steric disfavor group is on the outer side of alrylamino (R) substituent. Thus, as the size of alrylamino (R) substituent increases, so does the herbicidal activity of the substituent.
New banana-shaped achiral compounds, 1,3-phenylene bis [4-{4-(7-octenyloxy)phenyliminomethyl}benzoate](PBOEB), 1,3-phenylene bis [4-{3-fluoro-4-(7-octenyloxy)phenyliminomethyl}benzoate] (PBFOEB), 1,3-phenylene bis [4-{4-(10-undecyloxy)phenyliminomethyl}benzoate](PBEUB), and 1,3phenylene bis [4-{3-fluoro-4-(10-undecyloxy)phenyliminomethyl}benzoate](PBFEUB) were obtained by general synthetic methods. PBOEB and PBFOEB having the octenyloxy groups such as $-(CH_2)_6CH=CH_2$ showed ferroelectric switching, and their values of spontaneous polarization on reversal of an applied electric field were 120 nC/$cm^2$ and 225 nC/$cm^2$, respectively. PBEUB and PBFEUB having the undecyloxy groups such as $-{CH_2)_9CH=CH_2$ showed antiferroelectric switching, and their values of spontaneous polarization on reversal of an applied electric field were 120 nC/$cm^2$ and 140 nC/$cm^2$, respectively. We could obtain ferroelectric and antiferroelectric phases by controlling the number of carbon atom in alkenyloxy chains of bent-core molecules.
The most stable stereo conformer in non substituted benzenesulfonyl urea, 1 was the II-keto form, which the molecule was intramolecular associated(H-bond) coformer between imide group and N atom on the Pyrimidine ring. The hydrolytic degradation of 2 derivatives were proceeds by nucleophilic addition reaction(p<0) with orbital controlled intermolecular interaction between LUMO with electron donating$(\sigma<0)$ groups of 2 and HOMO of water molecule. N-(4,6-disub. pyrimid ine-2-yl)aminocarbonyl-2-(1,1-dimethoxy-2-fluoro)ethylbenze nesulfonamides,3 and N-(4,6-disub. triazine-2-yl)aminocarbonyl-2-(1,1-d imethoxy-2-fluoro)ethylbenzenesulfonamides,4 we re synthesized and their herbicidal activities in vivo against bulrush (Scirpus juncoides.) were measured by the pot test under the paddy conditions And the structure activity relationships(SAR) were analyzed by the multiple regression technique. The results of the SAR suggested that the 3 and 4 derivatives indicated dependent on the hydrophobicity of the 4,6-disubstituents and the heterocyclo group, where the optimal value $((log\;P)_{opt.}=0.89)$ of hydrophobicity was 0.89. The pyrimidine substituents, 3 showed higher herbicidal activity than the triazine substituents, 4. Among them, 4,6-dimethoxypyrimidine substituent, 3a showed the best herbicidal activity.
The trends of forming a charge transfer complex have been studied for electron donors such as anisole, 4-chloroanisole, 2,4-dichloroanisole, 2-fluoro-4-chloroanisole, 2-bromo-4-chloroanisole, 2-iodo-4-chloroanisole, 2-fluoro-4,6-dichloroanisole, 2,4,6-trichloroanisole, 2-bromo-4,6-dichloroanisole, 2-iodo-4,6-dichloroanisole, and 2-iodo-4,5,6-trichloroanisole, and electron acceptors such as iodine and iodine monochloride in the carbon tetrachloride or the hexane solvent system. It was found that the formation of a charge transfer complex was influenced by the Van der Waals Radii of the 2-halogen atoms on the benzene ring and further the overall steric moiety of the molecule of the electron donor. These trends were also experienced in a system of chloroform and one of the prementioned electron donor by means of a nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry. The spectrophotometrical data on the formation of the charge transfer complex were presented and the results were discussed with views of the steric structure of the 2-halogen atom on the benzene ring.
We designed and synthesized compounds which have negative dielectric anisotropy (N type) for VA-LCD mode. Due to the large dipole moments toward the minor axis of molecule and anisotropy of polarizability, they can be used as N type LC. F atom and NCS group and propyl group were introduced as substituents on bicyclohexylbenzene core unit and alkyl chains (propyl~heptyl) were introduced on terminal part. All of the synthesized compounds showed negative dielectric anisotropy as expected.
Radical and ion densities in a CF4 plasma have been calculated as a function of input power density. 9as pressure and feed gas flow rate using simple 0 dimensional global model. Fluorine atom is found to be the most abundant neutral particle. Highly fragmented species such as CF and CF+ become dominant neutral and ionic radical at the high power condition. As the pressure increases. ion density increases but ionization rate decreases due to the decrease in electron temperature. The fractional dissociation of CF4 feed gas decreases with pressure after increasing at the low pressure range. Electron density and temperature are almost independent of flow rate within calculation conditions studied. The fractional dissociation of CF4 monotonically decreases with flow rate. which results in increase in CF3 and decrease in CF density. The calculation results show that the SiO2 etch selectivity improvement correlates to the increase in the relative density of fluorocarbon ion and neutral radicals which has high C/F ratio.

In order to discover new types of 5-hydroxytryptamine antagonists, we have devoted our attention to investigating naturally occurring compounds having anti-5HT activity in vitro. Recently, ${\gamma}$-mangostin [1,3,6,7-tetrahydroxy-2,8-bis(3-methyl-2-bytenyl)-9H-xanthen-9-one] from the fruit hull of Garcinia mangostana Linn has been shown to be a selective antagonist for 5-hydroxytryptamine$_{2A}$ receptors in smooth muscle and platelets. It is of interesting that y-mangostin which does not have a nitrogen atom, possesses marked 5-$HT_{2A}$ receptor blocking activity. The present study was undertaken to investigate the effects of ${\gamma}$-mangostin on central 5-HT receptors by using animal behavioural models. Intracerebronventricular injection of ${\gamma}$-mangostin (10-40n mol/mouse) inhibited 5-fluoro-${\alpha}$-methyltryptamin (5-FMT) (45 mg kg$^{-1}$, i.p.)-induced head-twitch response in mice in the presence or absence of citalopram (5-HT-uptake inhibitor). Neither the 5-FMT- nor the 8-hydroxy-2-( di-n-propylamino )tetralin (5-HT$_{1A}$-agonist)-induced 5-HT syndrome (head weaving and hindlimb abduction) was affected by ${\gamma}$-mangostin. The locomotor activity stimulated by 5-FMT through the activation of at-adrenoceptors did not alter in the presence of ${\gamma}$-mangostin. 5-HT-induced inositol phosphates accumulation in mouse brain slices was abolished by ketanserin. ${\gamma}$-Mangostin caused a concentration-dependent inhibition of the inositol phosphates accumulation and the binding of [$^3H$]-spiperone, a specific 5-$HT_{2A}$ receptor antagonist, to mouse brain membranes. Kinetic analysis of the [$^H3$]-spiperone binding revealed that ${\gamma}$-mangostin increased the $_{d}$ value without affecting the $B_{max}$ value, indicating the mode of the competitive nature of the inhibition by ${\gamma}$-mangostin. These results suggest that ${\gamma}$-mangostin inhibits 5-FMT-induced head-twitch response in mice by blocking 5-$HT_{2A}$ receptors not by blocking the release of 5-HT from the central neurone. ${\gamma}$-Mangostin is a promising 5-$HT_{2A}$ receptors antagonist in the central nervous system.m.
