Electrical Characteristics of T5(28W) Fluorescent Lamp Ballast Circuit using Piezoelectric Transformer (압전트랜스포머를 이용한 T5(28W) 형광등 안정기 회로의 전기적 특성)

  • Contour vibration mode piezoelectric transformers were designed and fabricated to the square plate with size of 27.5x27.5x2.6㎟ using PNW-PMN-PZT ceramics. Electrical characteristics of the piezoelectric transformer were investigated for fluorescent lap ballast application. The electrical properties and characteristic temperature rise were measured by oscilloscope and infrared temperature sensor. A 28W fluorescent lamp was successfully driven by the fabricated transformers. The electronic ballast using piezoelectric transformer showed an excellent output power of 28.85[W], efficiency of 86.3% and characteristic temperature rise of 15[$\^{C}$].

  • We study on the Electro Optical Properties of the EEFL (External Electrode Fluorescent Lamp) Backlight system is based on the lamp type characteristics and diameter of the lamp tube under the equal manufacturing of the lamps. In this contribution, through the analysis of the different lamp type and diameter of the lamp tube gain the effective luminance and reduce the lamp voltage from aspect in the electro optical properties with EEFL and LCD backlight system.

  • This paper presents a new method for designing a ballast that can provide dimming control of an electrodeless fluorescent lamp. Frequency control of lamp power is inappropriate because the lamp coefficients such as equivalent impedance, coupling coefficient of the transformer, and plasma resistance are a function of lamp power. In this paper, the dimming is achieved by controlling the DC_Link voltage in relation to the lamp power. The DC_Link voltage is controlled by a buck converter. Simulation and experimental results of the proposed design method are presented in order to validate the proposed method.

  • Technology for electric lighting has been evolving from Incandescent Lamp(IL) through Fluorescent Lamp(FL) and currently to Solid State Lighting(SSL) such as LED for more than 130 years of time. However, it took more than 100 years until the transition from IL to FL across overall society. That is because the transition is the Socio-Technical Transition(STT) which involves various social elements. This study investigated and analyzed the theories regarding STT, and applied the Multi-Level Perspective(MLP) theory to the case of electric lighting. A qualitative contents analysis was used with secondary data as research method, and the analyzed result was visualized based on the frame of MLP theory. The STT of electric lighting from IL to FL took place as the order of Technical Niche, Socio-Technical Regime and Landscape. Specifically, in Technical Niche level: Establishing Market Niche, Price-Performance Improvement, Learning Process and Support of Powerful Group took place. In Socio-Technical Regime level: Changes in Social Network, Changes in Technology and Changes in Rules. In Landscape level: Macro-Political Development, Socio-Economic Trends and Macro-Economic Trends took place in consecutive order.

  • 액정 디스플레이(LCD)의 대형화 및 저가격화와 더불어 전체 소비전력의 90% 이상, 모듈(module) 원가의 50% 이상을 차지하는 백라이트에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 이에 기존의 냉음극 형광램프(CCFL)뿐만 아니라 원가 절감 및 특성 향상 기술로서 외부전극 형광램프(External Electrode Fluorescent Lamp), 면광원(Flat Fluorescent Lamp), 발광 다이오드 (Light Emitting Diode), 전계 방출램프(Field Emission Lamp) 등에 대한 개발이 활발히 진행되고 있는 바 이와 같은 다양한 기술의 경쟁을 통하여 보다 고품질 및 저원가 백라이트의 개발이 가능하여 액정 디스플레이의 경쟁력을 확대시킬 것으로 예상된다.

  • We have develped the electronic ballast for 32watt/1 fluorescent lamp. in this research. the circuit is analyzed by the P-spice program and designed to match the ballast with the fluresecnt lamp characteristics. The power factor correction circuit has been designed with all passive elements and then achived the slim-line type ballast.

  • Flat fluorescent lamp(FFL) is used as a light source for LCD TV backlight and is composed of many discharge channels but each channel may not be turned on simultatneouly especially at cold temperature. The simultaneous start of each lamp channels of FFL was accomplished by driving FFL with specially designed voltage and currnet waveforms without sacrificing the inverter efficency.

  • An inverter for driving flat fluorescent lamp(FFL) with various protection circuits using micro controller(Micom) is proposed in this paper. The inverter will be shut down if the fault operating conditions such as open lamp, over current and over voltage are detected.
