  • Blue fluorescent materials based on 9,9'-diethyl-2-diphenylaminofluorene derivatives were synthesized and characterized. These materials were used as the blue dopant materials for the emitting layer of organic light-emitting diode devices with the following device structure: ITO/DNTPD (40 nm)/NPB (20 nm)/MADN: dopants (2%, 20 nm)/$Alq_3$ (40 nm)/Liq (1.0 nm)/Al. All devices exhibited highly efficient blue emission. One of these devices exhibited a maximum luminance, luminous efficiency, power efficiency and CIE x, y coordinates of 8400 $cd/m^2$, 8.10 cd/A at 20 $mA/cm^2$, 3.36 lm/W at 20 $mA/cm^2$ and (0.151, 0.159), respectively. A deep blue device with CIE coordinates of (0.152, 0.139) showed the maximum luminance, luminous efficiency and power efficiency of 8630 $cd/m^2$, 6.31 cd/A at 20$mA/cm^2$ and 2.62 lm/W at 20 $mA/cm^2$, respectively.

  • In order to develop the substitutive materials for natural baits of swimming crab pots, the fluorescent characteristics of the baits were analyzed, and the preference of fluorescent dyes were investigated by the mean entrapped catch number to the pots through the water tank experiments and fishing experiments. On the investigation of fluorescent characteristics by the 5 kinds of baits, mackerel, krill, manila clam, pig's fat and chicken's head which were used in substitutive baits for test in the UV long wave(365nm) area, it showed clear blue fluorescence in the skin of mackerel, shell of krill, manila clam and bill of chicken's head, and green fluorescence in the mackerel s muscle and internals, and yellow fluorescence in the pig's fat and chicken's head. On the investigation of fluorescent characteristics by the bait cages in the UV short wave(254nm) and long wave(365nm) area, it showed each green, red and blue fluorescence in the cylinderical or hexahedral red plastic bait cages which were painted each green, red and blue fluorescence dyes, but it showed yellowish green flourescence in the cylinderical or hexahedral red plastic bait cage which was painted yellow fluorescent dye. On the preference investigation of the fluorescent dyes of swimming crabs by the 5 kinds of the bait cages which were put the mackerel in the non-fluorescent red plastic cage($RF_N$), red, yellow, green and blue fluorescent plastic cages(RF, YF, GF, BF) each, nonfluorescent red plastic cage($RF_N$) was entrapped mean 2.0(6.7%), but blue fluorescent plastic cage(BF) was mean 5.0(16.7%) and it was more 2.5 times comparing to $RF_N$, and red fluorescent cage(RF) was same level and green fluorescent cage(GF) was 50% of catch number comparing to $RF_N$, and yellow fluorescent cage(YF) was entrapped nothing(F 46.324, P < 0.05). On the investigation of the entrapped catch number to the pots which were put the mackerel in the blue fluorescent hexahedral plastic cage(HP) and blue fluorescent silicon mackerel model cage(SM), HP was mean 3.4(11.3%) and it was a little more comparing to SM which was entrapped mean 3.2(10.7%)(t 0.775, P > 0.05). Fishing experiments on the preference investigation of swimming crabs by the pots which were put in the non-fluorescent red plastic cage($RF_N$) and blue fluorescent plastic cage(BF) were conducted 3 times. Mean catching number and weight of $RF_N$ were 71.7 ind.(18.3%) and 16.9kg(64.3%), and those of BF were 93.0 ind.(23.1%) and 19.8kg(64.5%), respectively.

  • We studied the blue fluorescent OLED with Mg:Ag, Al, Ni as anode materials. Blue fluorescent OLEDs were fabricated using Anode / $MoO_3$ (3 nm) / 2-TNATA (60 nm) / NPB (30 nm) / SH-1 : BD-2 (5 vol.%, 30 nm) / Bphen (40 nm) / Liq (1 nm) / Al (150 nm). Current density of OLED with Mg:Ag was not measured due to too low work function, and that of OLED with Al showed $45.2mA/cm^2$ at 12 V. Luminance and Current efficiency of OLED with Al showed $385.1cd/m^2$ and 0.9 cd/A. Current density of OLED with Ni of 8, 10, 12 nm thickness showed 10, 12.9, $37.2mA/cm^2$, respectively. Luminance and Current efficiency of OLED with Ni of 8, 10, 12 nm thickness showed 670.9, 991.2, $1,320cd/m^2$ and 6.7, 7.7, 3.6 cd/A, respectively. Transmittance of Al was 52.2% at 476 nm wavelength and that of Ni of 8, 10, 12 nm thickness was 79, 77, 74 %, respectively. In spite of best current density, OLED with Al showed the lowest luminance and current efficiency because of low work function and poor transmittance. When thickness of Ni was increased to 12nm, current efficiency was sharply lower owing to bad transmittance and unbalance of holes and electrons. Finally, OLED with Ni of 10 nm thicknes showed the highest current efficiency.

  • We developed highly efficient fluorescent dopants for full-color OLEDs. For blue, green and red OLEDs, current efficiencies of 8.7cd/A, 20.5 cd/A and 11.4 cd/A at $10mA/cm^2$ were achieved, respectively. Lifetime of the blue device was estimated to be 23,000hours at an initial luminance of $1,000cd/m^2$. Moreover, long lifetime over 100,000 hours was estimated in the green and red devices. Furthermore, we obtained a three-component white OLED by using these new fluorescent materials. This white OLED shows a current efficiency of 16.1cd/A with extrapolated lifetime over 70,000 hours at $1,000cd/m^2$, and more excellent color reproducibility for full-color displays with color filters and general lighting, compared to previous fluorescent white OLEDs.

  • To improve the performance of blue fluorescent and green phosphorescent organic light-emitting diode devices, Merck developed novel green phosphorescent host and electron-transporting materials. The newly developed electron-transporting material improves the external quantum efficiency of blue fluorescent devices up to 8.7%, with an excellent lifetime. In combination with the newly developed host materials, the efficiency of green phosphorescent devices can be improved by a factor of 1.7, and the lifetime by a factor of 7.

  • We report a new series of blue dopants composed of both electron donating and electron accepting moieties in one molecule, based on nalidixic acid. The EL device derived from the dopant exhibits pure blue light emission (0.15, 0.14) The current efficiency is estimated to be 3.88 cd/A at 100 $cd/m^2$, which shows remarkable enhancement, compared to that of the host itself (2.5 cd/A at 100 $cd/m^2$) under the same conditions. These results demonstrate that the incorporation of a proper guest into the host in a guest-host doped system improves not only the purity of the fluorescent blue emission but also elevates its quantum efficiency, thus improving the OLED performance.

  • We have investigated organic light-emitting devices by doping phosphorescent orange and fluorescent blue emitters into the separate layers of single host. The electroluminescence spectra and current efficiency were strongly dependent on the location of each doped layers. The luminance-voltage (L-V) characteristics of the device2 (ITO/Hole Transport Layer/Orange Phosphorescent emissive layer/Blue Fluorescent emissive layer/Electron Transport Layer/liF/Al) showed the maximum current efficiency of 19.5 cd/A.

  • Deep blue fluorescent host materials based on a novel spiro[benzo[c]fluorene-7,9'-fluorene] core structure with side aromatic wings in the 5- and 9-positions, namely, 5,9-di(naphthalen-2-yl)spiro[benzo[c]fluorene-7,9'-fluorene] (DN-SBFF), 5,9-bis(4-t-butylphenyl)spiro[benzo[c]fluorene-7,9'-fluorene] (BP-SBFF), and 5,9-bis(4-fluorophenyl)spiro[benzo[c]fluorene-7,9'-fluorene] (FP-SBFF), were designed and successfully prepared using the Suzuki reaction. The physical properties of these materials and their EL characteristics as blue host materials doped with N,N,N',N'-tetraphenylspiro[benzo[c]fluorene-7,9'-fluorene]-5,9-diamine (TPA-SBFF) were investigated. The device used comprised ITO/N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-bis[4-(phenyl-m-tolyl-amino)phenyl]-biphenyl-4,4'-diamine (DNTPD)/N,N'-di(1-naphthyl)-N,N'-diphenylbenzidine (NPB)/(FP-SBFF):dopant x%/tris(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminum ($Alq_3$)/LiF. The device obtained using FP-SBFF doped with TPA-SBFF showed high color purity (0.13, 0.18) and an efficiency of 6.61 cd/A at 7 V.
