  • In order to synthesize LED phosphor materials, we have applied three novel synthesis techniques, "melt synthesis", "fluidized bed synthesis" and "vapor-solid hybrid synthesis", in contrast with the conventional solid state reaction technique. These synthesis techniques are also a general and powerful tool for rapid screening and improvements of new phosphor materials.

  • This study is to investigate the characteristics of heat transfer of a horizontal tube, with radial fins of various configuration, immersed in a high temperature fluidized bed. The experimental heat transfer variation is compared with that of a smooth tube. The finned tubes and smooth tube, with outside and inside diameter of 48.6mm and 30.6mm, are made of steel tubes. The depth of the fin is 5mm, the rake angles of fin are $25^{\circ},\;35^{\circ},\;45^{\circ}$ and the widthes of fin for each rake angle are 0mm, 1mm, 2mm and 3mm. A bed temperature is fixed at $880\;{\pm}\;10^{\circ}C$. A granular refractory(silica sand) is used as a bed material with mean particle diameters of 1.22mm and 1.54mm. The maximum heat transfer coefficient is achieved with the rake angle of $25^{\circ}$ and the width of 0mm for the mean particle size 1.22mm. The coefficient is 2.14 times larger than that for a smooth tube. The rake angle for the maximum heat transfer coefficient depends on the particle size of bed material. Also the transfer coefficient decreases as the width of fin increases.

  • A triboelectrostatic separation system using a fluidized bed tribocharger for the removal of PVC material in the mixture of PVC/PS plastics is designed and evaluated as a function of electric field strength, air flow rate, and the mixing ratio of two-component mixed plastics. It consists of a fluidized-bed tribocharger, a separation chamber, a collection chamber and a controller. PVC and PS particles can be imparted negative and positive surface charges, respectively, due to the difference in the work function values of plastics suspended in the fluidized-bed tribocharger, and can be separated by passing them through an external electric field. Experimental results show that separation efficiency is strongly dependent on the electric Deld strength and particle mixing ratio. In the optimum conditions of 150 Ipm air flow rate and 2.6 kV/cm electric field strength a highly concentrated PVC (99.1%) can be recovered with a yield of more than 99.2% from the mixture of PVC and PS materials for a single stage of processing.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop and commercialize a paddle-type fluidized dryer. The drying system used in this study, was designed to attach a paddle-type fluidized mixer to a dryer. The drying system is based on the drying method to generate thermal contacts, as fluidized layers are generated due to a paddle mechanism. Accordingly, the time of drying is short and material damage is very little. Also, the drying system operates as a closer system so it can be utilized not only for food and chemical materials, but also for environmental pollution materials. According to its performance test, the drying system is possible to dry low-moisture contents and its drying performance is outstanding. In conclusion, the drying system designed for this study, is likely to have great potential for commercialization.

  • In this study, unstable CaO was converted into a stable Ca compound by using carbonation in a circulating fluidized bed boiler of fly ash to confirm material usability as cement admixture; also undertaken was carbonation test and mortar to examine chemical and physical change by measuring absorption rate and compressive strength. To investigate the chemical properties of circulating fluidized bed boiler fly ash, XRD and TG-DTA were used to determine how the properties of the reaction product change quantitatively during carbonation. In order to stabilize CaO, carbonation of CaO is considered to be the most desirable process. This is because $CaCO_3$, which is a Ca compound, was produced by carbonate reaction of unstable CaO, and decrease of the absorption rate and improvement of the compressive strength were observed when the carbonated fly ash was replaced with cement.

  • The bio-oil produced from the fast pyrolysis of lignocellulosic biomass contains a high amount of oxygenates, causing variation in the properties of bio-oil, such as instability, high acidity, and low heating value, reducing the quality of the bio-oil. Consequently, an upgrading process should be recommended ensuring that these bio-oils are widely used as fuel sources. Catalytic fast pyrolysis has attracted a great deal of attention as a promising method for producing upgraded bio-oil from biomass feedstock. In this study, the fast pyrolysis of tulip tree was performed in a bubbling fluidized-bed reactor under different reaction temperatures, with and without catalysts, to investigate the effects of pyrolysis temperature and catalysts on product yield and bio-oil quality. The system used silica sand, ferric oxides (Fe2O3 and Fe3O4), and H-ZSM-5 as the fluidized-bed material and nitrogen as the fluidizing medium. The liquid yield reached the highest value of 49.96 wt% at 450 ℃, using Fe2O3 catalyst, compared to 48.45 wt% for H-ZSM-5, 47.57 wt% for Fe3O4 and 49.03 wt% with sand. Catalysts rejected oxygen mostly as water and produced a lower amount of CO and CO2, but a higher amount of H2 and hydrocarbon gases. The catalytic fast pyrolysis showed a high ratio of H2/CO than sand as a bed material.

  • This paper investigates the reaction rate of $CO_2$ storing carbonation hybrid reaction by comparing the behavior of carbonation between $Ca(OH)_2$ and fly ash with that of CFBC (Circulating Fluidized Bed Combustion) containing plenty of Free-CaO. Because fly ash with CFBC contains a lot of unreacted CaO, it cannot be used as a raw material for concrete admixtures and its usages are limited. To reuse such material, we stabilized unreacted CaO by carbonation and investigated the carbonation rate. We used a pH meter and a thermometer to check the rate of the carbonization. Also, we set the contents of fly ash with CFBC, $Ca(OH)_2$, flow and fluid of $CO_2$, respectively, to 100 g, 50 g, 100 ~ 1000 cc/min and 400 g based on the content of Free-CaO. We used carbonated water instead of water, and added an alkaline activator to promote the carbonation rate. As a result, the addition of the alkaline activator and carbonated water promoted the rate of carbonation via a hybrid reaction.
