  • A global simulation of $SiH_4/H_2$ discharge is conducted in a planar-type inductively coupled plasma (ICP) discharge. We numerically solve a set of spatially averaged fluid equations for electrons, positive ions, negative ions, neutrals, and radicals. Absorbed power by electrons is determined by an analytic electron heating theory including the anomalous skin effect. Also, we investigate functional dependence of various discharge quantities such as the densities of various species and the temperature of electron on external controllable parameters such as ratio between $SiH_4$ and $H_2$, power and pressure.

  • Copper mineralization of the Donghwa and Hwanghagsan mines was deposited in hydrothermal quartz veins which filled fissures in Cretacous sedimentary rocks. Ore minerals are pyrite, sphalerite, chalcopyrite, bornite, galena, wittichenite and unidentified Cu-Bi-Pb-Sb-S mineral. On the basis of salinities and homogenization temperatures for fluid inclusions, the Donghwa deposit was deposited from $300^{\circ}C$ to $220^{\circ}C$ with 2.5 to 0.2 wt.% eq. NaCl, and the Hwanghagsan deposits was deposited from $300^{\circ}C$ to $160^{\circ}C$ with 4.0 to 0.0 wt.% eq. NaCl. Evidence of boiling suggests pressure of 170 to 60 bar, these pressures correspond to 1700 m to 600 m. The ${\delta}^{34}S_{H_2S}$ values of the Donghwa deposit (4.8~7.4%) are higher than those of the Hwanghagsan deposit (3.5~4.5%), sulfur isotope compositions indicate that ore fluids partially reacted with meteoric water and wall-rock. Equilibrium thermodynamic interpretation indicates that the temperature versus $fs_2$ of the Donghwa deposit (> $420^{\circ}C$, $10^{-3.2}atm$) is higher condition than that of the Hwanghagsan deposit (> $290^{\circ}C$, $10^{-7.0}atm$). K-Ar ages for biotite granite and quartz porphyry in the study area are 64.7 Ma, and 60.9 Ma, reapectively. Mineralization age using sericite in the Donghwa deposits is 59.8 Ma. Therfore, Copper mineralization in the study area was associated with acidic igneous activity such as biotite granite or quartz porphyry.

  • Temperatures of engine head and liner depend on many factors such as spray and combustion process, coolant passage flow and engine related structures. To estimate the temperature distribution of engine structure, multi-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) codes have been mainly adopted. In this case, it is of great importance to obtain the realistic wall temperature distribution of entire engine structure. In the present work, a CFD-FEM coupling methodology was presented to address this demand. This approach was applied to a real large-size marine diesel engine. CFD combustion and coolant flow simulations were coupled to FEM temperature analysis. Wall heat flux and wall temperature data were interfaced between combustion simulation and solid component temperature analysis via translator by a commercial CFD package named FIRE by AVL. Heat transfer coefficient and surface temperature data were exchanged and mapped between coolant flow simulation and FEM temperature analysis. Results indicate that there exists the optimum cell thickness near combustion chamber wall to reasonably predict the wall heat flux during combustion period. The present study also shows that the effect of cell refining on predicting in-cylinder pressure during combustion is negligible. Hence, the basic guidance on obtaining the wall heat flux needed for the reasonable CFD-FEM coupling analysis has been established. It is expected that this coupling methodology is a robust tool for practical engine design and can be applied to further assessment of the temperature distribution of other engine components.

  • For developing high performance fuel cell, peripheral devices and key components have to be studied in priority. In this study, centrifugal pump was studied for heat recovery. For PEM fuel cell system, a four-impeller centrifugal pump was designed, tested and compared with result of commercial product (IWAKI). In addition, effects of number of impeller were analyzed by CFD. The experiment and analysis were progressed in the same conditions. The results showed the quantitative difference under 30% between the numerical and the experimental pressure difference and mass flow rate.

  • Recent studies have shown that there are various systems which can be used to monitor hazardous area in a debris flow location, but lack of methodological research on the exact location where each instrument should be installed has hindered the success of this systems. The objective of this study is to suggest the measurement system for monitoring debris-flow and propose the effective method to determine location of measurement system. Previously studied, from 1991 to 2015, were referred and the applied ratio of every instrument was investigated. The measurement information was divided into 8 categories including rainfall, debris-flow velocity, displacement, fluid pore pressure, ground vibration, image processing, impact force and peak flow depth. The result of this study revealed that the most applied instruments to be rain gauge and geophone for measuring average rainfall and ground vibration respectively. The Analytic Hierarchical Process (AHP) method was selected to determine installation location of instrument and the weighting factors were estimated through fine content, soil thickness, porosity, shear strength, elastic modulus, hydraulic conductivity and saturation. The soil thickness shows highest weights and the fine content relatively demonstrates lowest weights. The score of each position can be calculated through the weighting factors and the lowest score position can be judged as the weak point. The weak point denotes the easily affecting area and thus, the point is suitable for installing the measurement system. This study suggests a better method for safely managing the debris-flow through a precise location for installing measurement system.

  • It is necessary to install the inert gas system(IGS) for preventing fire and explosion in LNGC main diesel engine crankcase besides oil mist detector(OMD) unit with $CO_2$ gas injector. Therefore, to design the liquid nitrogen IGS, analytical work is conducted for predicting the heat input load of liquid nitrogen heater with two-phase stratified flow model. This paper also presents the effects of changes in pipe diameter, saturated pressure, and inclination angle by ship's movement on cryogenic two-phase stratified flows. It is found that the stratified model gives reasonable predictions, and the model is effective to predict the heat input load of liquid nitrogen IGS.

  • Elastic-plastic structural analysis for regenerative cooling chamber of liquid rocket thrust chamber is performed. Uniaxial tension test is also conducted for the copper alloy in order to get material data necessary for the structure analysis. The results of uniaxial tension test reveal that copper alloy become ductile after brazing process and flow stress becomes lower as temperature becomes higher. As a result of structural analysis using the material data, the deformation of cooling channel is more increased by thermal load than by internal pressure of cooling fluid. Therefore, the results of analysis show that structural stability and cooling performance of combustion thrust chamber which is designed to endure mechanical load and minimized a channel thickness are improved by decreased thermal load as possible.

  • Pintle thrusters use pintle stroke to change nozzle throat area, and this controls thrust. Using MATLAB, one-dimensional simulation has been investigated and the results are compared to those of cold flow tests and computational fluid dynamics for the pintle thruster of Chungnam National University. The prediction based on one-dimensional flow theory shows good agreement with measurements for chamber pressure, but deviates for thrust, partly because of nozzle wall separation. Computational results show that nozzle wall separation occurs at an early stage of nozzle expansion, near the design nozzle throat, for the course of pintle strokes. Empirical thrust prediction incorporates nozzle wall separation, and thus 1-D simulation using empirical thrust prediction showed good results for an early stage of pintle stroke.

  • Propellant pressurization system in liquid rocket propulsion system plays a role in supplying pressurant gas at a controlled pressure into the ullage space of propellant tanks. The most important design parameter for such propellant pressurization system is the temperature of pressurant gas fed from pressurant tank, which is placed inside of cryogenic propellant tank. Such pressurant is gaseous state, of which density is very sensitive to the temperature of pressurant. Previous investigation dealt with thermal correlation of pressurant and external fluid at room temperature. This study investigates the temperature variation of cryogenic pressurant (GHe) at the time when the pressurant is coming out of pressurant tank, which is submerged in a liquid oxygen, experimentally as well as numerically.

  • Performance of injector equiped with screw type swirler which is suitable for supersonic cruise engine combustor was investigated using theoretical, numerical, and experimental methods. Based on discharge coefficient and spray angle which represent the performance of injectors, the geometrical parameters which affect these performance parameters were defined, control group injectors were designed, and variation of performance parameters according to the geometrical parameters were examined. Within the defined range, measured value of performance of injectors was smaller than result of theoretical prediction, and prediction result from numerical simulation using VOF method agreed with the result of experiments very well. The viscous barrier was not observed, and minimum discharge coefficient and maximum spray angle, 0.05 and 104 respectively, was obtained for this type of injector.
