  • Evaluation of the elevated temperature flow stress for thermoplastic fiber metal laminates(TFMLs) sheet, comprised of two aluminum sheets in the exterior layers and a self-reinforced polypropylene(SRPP) in the interior layer, was conducted. The flow stress as a function of temperature should be evaluated prior to the actual forming of these materials. The flow stress can be obtained experimentally by uniaxial tensile tests or analytically by deriving a flow stress model. However, the flow stress curve of TFMLs cannot be predicted properly by existing flow stress models because the deformation with temperature of these types of materials is different from that of a generic pure metallic material. Therefore, the flow stress model, which includes the effect of the temperature, should be carefully identified. In the current study, the flow stress of TFMLs were first predicted by using existing flow stress models such as Hollomon, Ludwik, and Johnson-Cook models. It is noted that these existing models could not effectively predict the flow stress. Flow stress models such as the modified Hollomon and modified Ludwik model were proposed with respect to temperatures of $23^{\circ}C$, $60^{\circ}C$, $90^{\circ}C$, $120^{\circ}C$. Then the stress-strain curves, which were predicted using the proposed flow stress models, were compared to the stress-strain curves obtained from experiments. It is confirmed that the proposed flow stress models can predict properly the temperature dependent flow stress of TFMLs.

  • The flow stress value was calculated by comparing predicted and measured roll force. Using basic on-line roll force model and logged mill data the flow stress equation of high strength steel for automobile was derived. The flow stress equation consists of the flow stress equation of carbon steel and flow stress factor calculated by neural network with input parameters not only carbon contents, strip temperature, strain, and strain rate, but also compositions such as Mn, p, Ti, Nb, and Mo. Using the flow stress equation and basic roll force model, precision roll force model of high strength steel for automobile was derived. Using test set of logged mill data the flow stress equation was verified.

  • Atherosclerosis preferentially involves in prone area of low and disturbed blood flow while steady and high levels of laminar blood flow are relatively protected from atherosclerosis. Disturbed flow induces endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and the unfolded protein response (UPR). ER stress is caused under stress that disturbs the processing and folding of proteins resulting in the accumulation of misfolded proteins in the ER and activation of the UPR. Prolonged or severe UPR leads to activate apoptotic signaling. Recent studies have indicated that disturbed flow significantly up-regulated $p-ATF6{\alpha}$, $p-IRE1{\alpha}$, and its target spliced XBP-1. However, the role of laminar flow in ER stress-mediated endothelial apoptosis has not been reported yet. The present study thus investigated the role of laminar flow in ER stress-dependent endothelial cell death. The results demonstrated that laminar flow protects ER stress-induced cleavage forms of PARP-1 and caspase-3. Also, laminar flow inhibits ER stress-induced $p-eIF2{\alpha}$, ATF4, CHOP, spliced XBP-1, ATF6 and JNK pathway; these effects are abrogated by pharmacological inhibition of PI3K with wortmannin. Finally, nitric oxide affects thapsigargin-induced cell death in response to laminar flow but not UPR. Taken together, these findings indicate that laminar flow inhibits UPR and ER stress-induced endothelial cell death via PI3K/Akt pathway.

  • In this paper, the effect of flow stress, friction, temperature, and velocity on finite element predictions of metal flow lines after cylindrical upsetting is presented. An actual three-stage hot forging process involving an upsetting step is utilized and experimental metal flow lines are measured to study the effect of the various process variables. It was found that temperature and velocity for reasonable values of friction have little influence on metal flow lines especially those located deep within the cylinder but that flow stress has a direct influence on the flow lines. It was shown that a pure power law material model cannot reflect the real flow stress of hot material because it underestimates the flow stress especially around the dead-metal zone for the upsetting of a cylindrical specimen. It is thus recommended that a proper lower limit of flow stress be assumed to alleviate this issue.

  • The flow stress curve is usually determined via uniaxial tensile or simple compression test. However, the flow stress curve up to high strain cannot be obtained using these two tests. This study presents a simple method for obtaining the flow stress curve up to high strain via FE analysis, a simple compression test, and an indentation test. In order to draw the flow stress curve up to high strain, the indentation test was carried out with the pre-stained specimen using the simple compression test. The flow stress curve of Al6110 was evaluated up to high strain using the proposed method, and the result was compared with the flow stress curve of the uniaxial tensile test of the initial material.

  • In the finite elemenet analysis of metal forming problems, the most critical input is the flow stress of workpiece. Conventionally, the flow stress of a metal at elevated temperatures is assumed to be a function of strain, strain rate and temperature, and obtained by experiment. However, if the workpiece is not continuously deformed as in mulit-pass rolling, the flow stress obtained by experiment is no longer valid because it does not consider the microstructure evolution occurring between deformations. In the present study, it was attemped that the flow stress of steel in the austenite region be obtained equations. It was applied to the prediction of flow stress variation at each stand during hot finishing rolling of steel.

  • Purpose : This study was carried out to find out the relationship between emotion intelligence, learning flow and career stress of nursing students and influence factors for career stress. Methods : This study targeted 197 university students in their freshman-senior year attending College of Nursing located in P Metropolitan City. For collected data, real numbers and percentage, mean and standard deviation and multiple regression analysis were carried out by using PASW 21.0 program and the correlation between emotion intelligence, learning flow and career stress was analyzed with Pearson's correlation coefficients. Results : Emotional self-awareness(M=3.80, SD =.71), clear goals(M=3.39, SD=.90) and school environment stress(M=2.97, SD=.96) were found to be high in the degree of emotion intelligence, learning flow and career stress of the subjects. The relationship between emotion intelligence and learning flow showed a positive correlation(r=.489, p<.01) in the correlation between emotion intelligence, learning flow, career stress and emotion intelligence showed a negative correlation with career stress(r=-.204, p<.01). Emotion intelligence and learning flow show that career stress is predicted significantly (${\beta}$ =-.15, p < .01) and explained a career stress variate as 18%(F = 24.5, p < .01). Conclusion : Emotion intelligence of nursing students was found to be very influential on the degree of learning flow or career stress. Based on the results of this study, replication studies on emotion intelligence and career stress are needed and the development of intervention programs to increase emotion intelligence is needed.

  • The interest in the mechanical behavior of materials at high strain rates has increased in recent years, and by now it is well known that mechanical properties can be strongly influenced by the speed of applied load. The split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) has been widely used to determine mechanical properties of materials at high loading rates. However, to ensure test reliability, measurement error source must be accounted for and eliminated. During experiment, the specimens were located between the incident and the transmit bar. The presence of contact frictions between the test bars and specimen may cause errors. In this work, numerical experiments were carried out to investigate the effect of friction on test results. In SHPB test, the measured stress by the transmitted bar is assumed to be flow stress of the test specimen. Through the numerical experiments, however, it is shown that the measured stress by the transmit bar is axial stress components. When, the contact surface is frictionless, the flow stress and the axial stress of the specimen are about the same. When the contact surface is not frictionless, however, the flow stress and the axial stress are not the same anymore. Therefore, the measured stress by the transmitted bar is not flow stress. The effect of friction on the difference between flow stress and axial stress is investigated.

  • Precision injection molding process is of great importance since precision optical products such as CD, DVD and various lens are manufactured by those process. In such products, birefringence affects the optical performance while residual stress that determines the geometric precision level. Therefore, it is needed to study residual stress and birefringence that affect deformation and optical quality, respectively in precision optical product. In the present study, we tried to predict residual stress, final shrinkage and birefringence in injection molded parts in a systematic way, and compared numerical results with the corresponding experimental data. Residual stress and birefringence can be divided into two parts, namely flow induced and thermally induced portions. Flow induced birefringence is dominant during the flow, whereas thermally induced stress is much higher than flow induced one when amorphous polymer undergoes rapid cooling across the glass transition region. A numerical system that is able to predict birefringence, residual stress and final shrinkage in injection molding process has been developed using hybrid finite element-difference method for a general three dimensional thin part geometry. The present modeling attempts to integrate the analysis of the entire process consistently by assuming polymeric materials as nonlinear viscoelastic fluids above a no-flow temperature and as linear viscoelastic solids below the no-flow temperature, while calculating residual stress, shrinkage and birefringence accordingly. Thus, for flow induced ones, the Leonov model and stress-optical law are adopted, while the linear viscoelastic model, photoviscoelastic model and free volume theory taking into account the density relaxation phenomena are employed to predict thermally induced ones. Special cares are taken of the modeling of the lateral boundary condition which can consider product geometry, histories of pressure and residual stress. Deformations at and after ejection have been considered using thin shell viscoelastic finite element method. There were good correspondences between numerical results and experimental data if final shrinkage, residual stress and birefringence were compared.

  • Compression test has been used to measure material flow stress due to limited capability of tensile test at the fast strain rate. Since the frictional stress unavoidable during compression test should be properly eliminated from the measured stress, calibration of the measured stress by using friction factor has been made for the flow stress measurement. Also, calibrated stresses by interrupted and continuous compression tests have been compared with the true stress measured by tensile test at $0.2\%$ carbon steel.
