As a result of environmental concerns, the production of electricity through renewable energy resources is rapidly increasing. Wind energy is among the fastest growing renewable energy resources now being integrated in the power system, and the penetration rate of wind generation has been gradually increased. For power flow analysis of the recent systems, thus, steady-state modeling of wind turbines and their application are of great importance. This paper presents the procedure we applied for implementation of a steady-state wind turbine model in power flow.

Lean construction researchers and practitioners have established a new paradigm for managing construction projects. This paradigm stems from insights gained by viewing project delivery as one kind of production and, inspired by the success of the Toyota Production System, leveraging Toyota's 'lean thinking' in the context of such one-of production. Premises of lean construction are that (1) production systems are riddled with variation, (2) variation can be good or bad, but most of it is bad, (3) most of this variation-good or bad-is self-inflicted; consequently 'lean' passionately promotes good- and relentlessly eradicates bad variation. This paper surveys a few of many lean construction means to manage variation. Lean thinking encompasses a lot more than thinking about variation, but that is the lens used here through which construction project management is viewed. Pairing these premises with lean variation-management tools may help readers broaden the insights they can gain from reading the lean construction literature.
Ethylene gas classified as one of five major plant hormones plays an important role in various plant metabolism. The precise analysis of ethylene production of plants or plant parts is a valuable research procedure because knowledge of ethylene production facilitates measures of the physiological activity within the tissue. This paper describes procedures for analyzing ethylene from plant tissues by gas chromatography and discusses problems associated with extracting gas samples either by introducing a vacuum to plant samples or by using a hypodermic syringe. Introduced are a continuous flow system for efficient analysis and an automated system for sampling, analyzing, calculating and recording ethylene production data.
A rumen simulated continuous culture (RSCC) system was used to study the influence of supplementation of the three different types of protein sources such as urea, casein and soy protein on rumen microbial synthesis in terms of rumen microbial synchronization. The urea treatment showed the highest pH value. Ammonia nitrogen concentration was rapidly increased after feeding and not significantly different in the urea treatment (13.53 mg/100 ml). Protozoa numbers were not significantly different for soy protein and casein treatment compared to urea treatments during incubation. The average concentration of total VFA (mMol) was not detected with significant difference among treatments, but iso-butyrate production showed the highest for soy protein treatment among treatments (p<0.001). The lowest concentration in total iso-acids (iso-butyrate and iso-valerate) production was observed in urea treatment. The soy protein treatment showed no significantly change in acetate/propionate. The amounts of dry matter (DM) out flow showed no significant difference among treatments. Organic matter (OM) flow was the highest for urea treatments and the lowest for casein treatment (p<0.03). The nitrogen flow for casein treatment was not significantly different from other treatments. The efficiency of microbial protein synthesis in terms of microbial nitrogen (MN) synthesis (g MN/kg ADOM) digested in the rumen was highest for casein treatment (58.53 g MN/kg ADOM) compared to soy protein and urea (p<0.05). This result suggests that rumen ammonia releasing rate may influence on microbial protein synthesis in the rumen.

The purification of two liquid phases ($H_2SO_4$ phase and HIx phase) formed from a Bunsen reaction in Sulfur-Iodine (SI) hydrogen production process was investigated in order to operate SI process efficiently. The each synthetic solution for two liquid phases contained impurities was prepared on the basis of a proper composition obtained from Bunsen reaction. The purification of each solution was performed by counter-current flow using a packed column at different temperatures and $N_2$ flow rates. As the results of purification, impurities existed in each phase were decreased with increasing the temperature and the $N_2$ flow rate. In particular, the increase of the $N_2$ flow rate at the lower temperatures was effective to remove impurities by a reverse Bunsen reaction without side reactions. On the whole, it may be concluded that the purification of each phase is accomplished by mixing effects of the stripping, the evaporation, and the reverse Bunsen reaction.
Two key data areas of the integrated production database in computer-integrated manufacturing (CIM) systems are the product structure in the forms of bills of material(BOM) and the process structure in the forms of routings. The great majority of existing information systems regard the BOM and routing as two separate data entities, possibly with some degree of cross-referencing. This paper proposes new information structure called the bills of material and routings(BMR) that logically integrates the BOM and routings for the CIM systems in ship production. The characteristics of ship production are described as: 1) make-to-order production type, 2) combined manufacturing principles (workshop production and construction site production), 3) significant overlapping of design, planning and manufacturing, 4) very long order throughput time, 5) complex product structure and production process. The proposed BMR systematically manages ail parts and operations data needed ship production considering characteristics of ship production. Also, the BMR situated on the integrated production database more efficiently supports interface between engineering and production functions, and integrates a wide variety of functions within production such as production planning, process planning, operation scheduling, material planning, costing etc., and simplifies information flow between sub-systems in CIM systems.

This report describes the use of a transtubular bioreactor to study the relative effects of diffusion versus perfusion of medium on antibody production by a hybridoma cell line. The study was performed with a high-density cell culture maintained in a serum-free, low-protein medium for 77 days. It was determined that the reactor possessed a macro-mixing pattern residence time distribution similar to a continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR), However, due to the arrangement of the medium lines in the reactor, the flow patterns for nutrient distribution consist of largely independent medium path lengths ranging from short to long. When operated with cyclic, reversing, transtubular medium flow, some regions of the reactor (with short residence times) are more accessible to medium than others (with long residence times). From this standpoint, the reactor can be divided into three regions: a captive volume, which consists of medium primarily delivered via diffusion; a lapped volume, which provides nutrients through unilateral convection; and a swept volume, which operates through bilateral convection. The relative sizes of these three volumes were modified experimentally by changing the period over which the direction of medium flow was reversed from 15 min (larger captive volume) to 9 h (larger swept volume). The results suggest that antibody concentration increases as the size of the diffusion-limited (captive) volume is increased to a maximum at around 30 min with a sharp decrease thereafter. As reflected by changes in measured consumption of glucose and production of lactate, no significant difference in cellular metabolism occurred as the reactor was moved between these different states. These results indicate that the mode of operation of the transtubular bioreactor may influence antibody productivity under serum-free, low-protein conditions with minimal effects on cellular metabolism.
Mixed model production system means that various products are manufactured alternately in a line, and it has become a popular system in the era of multi-product small-quantity production. However, in the mixed model production system using flow line, the unbalance among stations is not inevitable because the workloads of stations cannot be the same. Thus, flow line system has been replaced to cellular manufacturing system for reducing the loss of waiting due to the unbalance of stations. In this paper, we introduce the simulation case study of an automated welding line which produces the parts of excavator. The factory has considered replacing the mixed model flow line to the cellular manufacturing system based on FMC concept. The increase of production quantity is estimated about 26.7%, and the lead time is reduced more than 55%. Furthermore sensitivity analyses are conducted considering the changes of product-mix.
The Korean government is aiming to produce 20% of the electricity using renewable energy sources by 2030. Ocean renewable energy sources which are abundant in South Korea can do an important role to achieve the goal. This paper introduces a tidal current energy converter utilizing flow induced vibrations which can efficiently work even in the currents slower than 1.0m/s and suggests optimal designs of the tidal energy converter based on speeds of the tidal currents in seven different coastal regions in South Korea. Moreover, the theoretical annual energy production by the tidal converter is estimated at theses costal areas. The total amount of the annual energy production by the tidal energy converter is predicted as 221.77 TWh which is equivalent to 42.3% of the electric consumption of South Korea in 2013. The result shows that the tidal current energy converter can be an important role to achieve the goal of the Korean government.
