In case of hollow cylinder extrusion using porthole die, the effects of extrusion parameters-temperature, the speed of extrusion, the shape of the die and mandrel-on metal flow in porthole die extrusion of aluminum have been investigated. However, there have been few studies about condenser tube extruded by porthole die. Original metal flow of condenser tube by porthole die extrusion is similar to hollow cylinder extrusion but the estimation of metal flow for extrusion parameters is different. For example, variation of chamber length in hollow extrusion only affects the welding pressure, however, the welding chamber length in condenser tube extrusion influences to the welding pressure as well as the deflection of mandrel. This study was designed to evaluate metal flow, welding pressure, extrusion load, tendency of mandrel deflection according to angular variation in the bottom of chamber in porthole die. Estimation was carried out using finite element method in as non-steady state. Analytical results can provide useful information the optimal design of porthole die.
The low-cost, simple structured micropump which is actuated by piezoelectricdiscs, is fabricated with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and the performances of the micropump, such as pump rate and backward pressure, are characterized. The PDMS micropump with diffusers instead of passive check valves as a flow-rectifying element was fabricated. While the square wave driving voltage is applied to the piezoelectric disc of the actuator, the flow rate is measured by fluid displacement variation of the outlet tube. The flow rate of micropump increases with enhancing the applied voltage due to the increase of diaphragm deflection. The flow rate and the backward pressure of the micropump with diffusers are about $32.9{\mu}{\el}$/min and 173Pa respectively for the above mentioned deflection conditions.
Transient and asymmetric density distributions have been investigated by three-dimensional digital speckle tomography. Multiple CCD images captured movements of speckles in three angles of view simultaneously because the flows were asymmetric and transient. The speckle movements between no flow and downward butane flow from a circular half opening have been calculated by a cross-correlation tracking method so that those distances can be transferred to deflection angles of laser rays for density gradients. The three-dimensional density fields have been reconstructed from the deflection angles by a real-time multiplicative algebraic reconstruction technique (MART).
Molding of body with ribs is the most difficult during flow molding process. The rib area is easy to be deformed at the rear side due to wall thickness variation. In this study, relationships between molding condition and deflection of rib-shaped part is investigated during the compression molding of fiber reinforced plastic composites, and the following results are derived. Polypropylene(PP), Polystyrene(PS), and stampable sheet(SS 40wt%) show the increment of deflection along with releasing temperature. For the correlation between incremental holding pressure load and deflection, stampable sheet exhibits lower deflection along with higher holding pressure, while PS shows significant increase of deflection with higher holding pressure, PP shows completely different characteristic, significant reduction of deflection along with higher holding pressure. Regarding to mold temperature and deflection, deflection amount of SS is the biggest, and PS shows the smallest. In addition, all three kinds shows the highest amount of deflection at 173C. Deflection is reduced when mold closing speed is increased. Amount of deflection in SS is larger and is not highly dependent on molding conditions like holding pressure and cooling parameters, compared with single component material like PP. This can be elucidated by anisotropic and inhomogeneous characteristics of glass fiber during filling process of stampable sheet composite.
A simply supported pipe conveying fluid and a moving mass upon it constitute a vibrational system. The equation of motion is derived by using Lagrange's equation. The influence of the velocity and the inertia force of a moving mass and the velocities of fluid flow in the pipe have been studied on the dynamic behavior of a simply supported pipe by numerical method. The velocities of fluid low are considered within its critical values of the simply supported pipe without a moving mass upon it. Their coupling effects on the transverse vibration of a simply supported pipe are inspected too. as the velocity of a moving mass increases, the deflection of midspan of a simply supported pipe conveying fluid is increased and the frequency of transverse vibration of the pipe is not varied. Increasing of the velocity of fluid flow makes the frequency of transverse vibration of the simply supported pipe conveying fluid decrease and the deflection of midspan of the pipe increase. The deflection of the simply supported pipe conveying fluid is increased by a coupling of the moving mass and the velocities of a moving mass and fluid flow.
The increasing interest in the exploration of Mars stimulated the authors to study aerodynamic problems linked to space vehicles. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the aerodynamic effects of a flapped wing in collaborating with parachutes and retro-rockets to reduce velocity and with thrusters to control the spacecraft attitude. 3-D computations on a preliminary configuration of a blunt-cylinder, provided with flapped fins, quantified the beneficial influence of the fins. The present paper is focused on Aerodynamics of a wing section (NACA-0010) provided with a trailing edge flap. The influence of the flap deflection was evaluated by the increments of aerodynamic force and leading edge pitching moment coefficients with respect to the coefficients in clean configuration. The study was carried out by means of two Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) codes (DS2V/3V solving 2-D/3-D flow fields, respectively). A DSMC code is indispensable to simulate complex flow fields on a wing generated by Shock Wave-Shock Wave Interaction (SWSWI) due to the flap deflection. The flap angle has to be a compromise between the aerodynamic effectiveness and the increases of aerodynamic load and heat flux on the wing section lower surface.
This paper reports on the fluid flow simulation results of a multilayer type piezoelectric valve. The mechanical and fluidic analysis are done by finite element method. The designed structure is normally closed type using buckling effect, which is consist of three separate structures; a valve seat die, an actuator die and a MLCA(Multilayer Type Ceramic Actuator). It is confirmed that the complete laminar flow and the lowest flow leakage are strongly depend on the valve seat geometry. In addition, turbulent flow was occurs in valve outlet according to increase seat dimension, height and inlet pressure. From this, we was deducts the optimum geometry of the valve seat and diaphragm deflection that have an great influence fluid flow in valve. Thus, it is expected that our simulation results would be apply for piezoelectric applications such as valve and pump, fluidic control systems.
Swirl and tumble flows in an engine in-cylinder have been simulated by using a three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics code, and the results are validated in comparison with experimental data. The large eddy simulation based on the Smagorinsky model and the fractional step method is adopted to describe the turbulence of in-cylinder flows and to save computing time, respectively. The main purpose of this study is connected with the effect of various conditions of intake flows on formation and development of in-cylinder tumble and swirl motions. The engine speeds considered are 1000 rpm and 3000 rpm for intake flows with inclination angles between $-10^{\circ}$ and $20^{\circ}$ at deflection angles of $0^{\circ}$, $22.5^{\circ}$, and $30^{\circ}$. The results are discussed by visualizing flow fields and by evaluating parameters in relation to vortex intensity such as swirl and tumble ratios.
Transient and asymmetric density distributions have been investigated by three-dimensional digital speckle tomography with a novel integration method. Multiple CCD images captured movements of speckles in three angles of view simultaneously because the flows were asymmetric and unsteady. The speckle movements which have been formed by a ground glass between no flow and downward butane flow from a circular half opening have been calculated by a cross-correlation tracking method so that those distances can be transferred to deflection angles of laser rays for density gradients. A novel integration method has been developed to obtain projection data from the deflection angles for the speckle tomography.'The three-dimensional density fields have been reconstructed from the accurate projection values by a real-time multiplicative algebraic reconstruction technique (MART) with the developed integration method.
