Pipe cooling method is widely used for reduction of hydration heat and control of cracking in mass concrete structures. However, in order to effectively apply pipe cooling systems to concrete structure, the coefficient of flow convection relating the thermal transfer between inner stream of pipe and concrete must be estimated. In this study, a device measuring the coefficient of flow convection is developed. Since a variation of thermal distribution caused by pipe cooling has a direct effect in internal forced flows, the developed testing device is based on the internal forced flow concept. Influencing factors on the coefficient of flow convection are mainly flow velocity, pipe diameter and thickness, and pipe material. finally a prediction model of the coefficient of flow convection is proposed using experimental results from the developed device. According to the proposed prediction model, the coefficient of flow convection increases with increase in flow velocity and decreases with increase in pipe diameter and thickness. Also, the coefficient of flow convection is largely affected by the type of pipe materials.
This study was undertaken to verify the effect of flow coefficient when a globe control valve was attached by different type of fitting. The valve flow coefficient is usually determined by measuring the flow rate and the pressure drop with the connection of straight pipe through the valve. The effect of different fitting that is mounted on the downstream of the valve is studied. Four types of fittings and three distances between the valve and a downstream fitting are compared parametrically to investigate the effect on the flow coefficient of it. Measured flow coefficient and numerically predicted value by using computational fluid dynamics were compared in detail. It is concluded that the flow coefficient is reduced if the fitting is attached after a valve, but the effect of different type of fitting is not crucial.
When we use the circular pipes for wastewater and storm water, we should be known the characteristics of the flow for accurate design. To elevate the design accuracy, we want to know the profile of flow. The roughness coefficient in the Manning equation is constant, but in actuality changed with the relative depth in circular pipe. This study was conducted to calculate the relative normal depth in changing the roughness coefficient (named relative roughness coefficient) with the relative depth in the analysis of gradually varied flow in the circular pipe by Newton-Raphson method. We performed the analysis of gradually varied flow using the relative normal depth and the relative roughness coefficient. We presented the 12 flow profiles with the relative depth and the relative roughness coefficient in circular pipe. The flow classification considering relative depth in circular pipe is available to analyse gradually varied flow profiles.
The Equations of inherent flow coefficient are different from compressible to incompressible flow. The paper has been conducted to measure the inherent flow coefficient of solenoid valve under various flows. Experimental results for compressible and incompressible flow were confirmed to inherent flow coefficient correctly. The value of inherent flow coefficient for the 0.5" solenoid valve is about 2. Dynamic characteristics of a solenoid valve, which plays an important role in real model, have been analysed by AMESim simulator modeling.
Flow duration curves provide a compact summary of streamflow variability. In this study, characteristics of the dimensionless flow duration curve in natural rivers with the unregulated discharge were investigated. An analysis of flow duration characteristics was conducted with discharge data at stage-gauging stations of IHP representative basins and of the major rivers in Korea. Discharge characteristics are dependent on area of watershed. However, flow duration coefficients except drought duration coefficient are independent on that. Abundant flow duration coefficient was constant value. The coefficient of flow duration variability defined in this study as the ratio of the normal stream flow over the drought one is decreased with increasing of the watershed area, which implies that the watershed area affects the drought flow duration variability more than the low flow one. And the coefficient of flow duration variability is increased with the river gradient.

The factors affecting the flow coefficient of a control valve were identified and analyzed. The flow coefficient of a control valve are affected by not only Reynolds Number but also the figure and the roughness of the inlet/outlet pipes. Therefore, the flow coefficient is not a constant value. For the purpose of use in the system such as LRE, requiring the exact flow-coefficient of a control valve, the flow-coefficient should be measured under similar Reynolds Number using the inlet and outlet pipes which have the same figure and roughness with a real system.

The objective of this study is to simulate flow coefficient and flow characteristics such as velocity and pressure distribution for butterfly valve. Butterfly valves used in this study are 65A, 80A and 100A, in size, and of which the opening angle is varied. The flow coefficient, Kv, increases as the disc opening and valve size are increase. When using flow coefficient meanwhile specific curve of flow rate is also determined. The flow velocity between disc and seat increase as the disc opening decrease. The re-circulating zone is also observed in downstream behind disc.

Asymmetric tip clearance in an axial compressor induces pressure and velocity redistributions along the circumferential direction in an axial compressor. This paper presents the mechanism of the flow redistribution due to the asymmetric tip clearance with a simple numerical modeling. The flow field of a rotor of an axial compressor is predicted when an asymmetric tip clearance occurs along the circumferential direction. The modeling results are supported by CFD results not only to validate the present modeling but also to investigate more detailed flow fields. Asymmetric tip clearance makes local flow area and resultant axial velocity vary along the circumferential direction. This flow redistribution 'seed' results in a different flow patterns according to the flow coefficient. Flow field redistribution patterns are largely dependent on the local tip clearance performance at low flow coefficients. However, the contribution of the main flow region becomes dominant while the tip clearance effect becomes weak as the flow coefficient increases. The flow field redistribution pattern becomes noticeably strong if a blockage effect is involved when the flow coefficient increases. The relative flow angle at the small clearance region decreases which result in a negative incidence angle at the high flow coefficient. It causes a recirculation region at the blade pressure surface which results in the flow blockage. It promotes the strength of the flow field redistribution at the rotor outlet. These flow pattern changes have an effect on the blade loading perturbations. The integration of blade loading perturbation from control volume analysis of the circumferential momentum leads to well-known Alford's force. Alford's force is always negative when the flow blockage effects are excluded. However when the flow blockage effect is incorporated into the modeling, main flow effects on the flow redistribution is also reflected on the Alford's force at the high flow coefficient. Alford's force steeply increases as the flow coefficient increases, because of the tip leakage suppression and strong flow redistribution. The predicted results are well agreed to CFD results by Kang and Kang(2006).

The object of this study is to find new evaluation index for in-cylinder flow chracteristics istead of current swirl, tumble coefficient using steady flow test rig on intake port system. To this end, port flow system. To this end, port flow rig test was conducted on DOHC head varying intake valve lift respectively. Finally combination angular coefficient and inclination angle were introduced as new evaluation index for in-cylinder angularflow characteristics instead of swirl and tumble coefficient.
Total maximum daily load have been implemented and indicated that nonpoint discharge coeffients in flow duration curve were 0.50 of Normal flow duration ($Q_{185}$) and 0.15 of low flow duration($Q_{275}$). By using SWAT, nonpoint discharge coefficients are studied with the conditions of the instream flow and the rainfall in two study areas. The nonpoint discharge coefficient average of BOD and TP for normal flows duration in 3 years are 0.32~0.36 and 0.28~0.31. For the low flow duration, the nonpoint discharge coefficient avergae of BOD and TP were 0.10~0.12 and 0.10~0.11. These are lower than the coefficients of total maximum load regulation. There are big differences between one of regulation and one of SWAT for the normal flow duration. With the consideration of rainfall condition, the nonpoint discharge coefficient of flood flow duration are influenced on the amount of rainfalls. However, the nonpoint discharge coefficients of normal flow duration and low flow duration are not effected by the rainfall condition. Since the spatial distribution and geomorphological characteristics could be considered with SWAT, the estimation of nonpoint discharge coefficient in watershed model is better method than the use of the recommended number in the regulation.
