The Button effect of CANFLEX Bundle on the Critical Heat Flux and Critical Channel Power

  • A CANFLEX(CANdu FLEXible fuelling) 43-element bundle has developed for a CANDU-6 reactor as an alternative of 37-element fuel bundle. The design has two diameter elements (11.5 and 13.5㎜) to reduce maximum element power rating and buttons to enhance the critical heat flux(CHF), compared with the standard 37-element bundle. The freon CHF experiments have performed for two series of CANFLEX bundles with and without buttons with a modelling fluid as refrigerant H-l34a and axial uniform heat flux condition. Evaluating the effects of buttons of CANFLEX bundle on CHF and Critical Channel Power(CCP) with the experimental results, it is shown that the buttons enhance CCP as well as CHF. All the CHF's for both the CANFLEX bundles are occurred at the end of fuel channel with the high dryout quality conditions. The CHF enhancement ratio are increased with increase of dryout quality for all flow conditions and also with increase of mass flux only lot high pressure conditions. It indicates that the button is a useful design lot CANDU operating condition because most CHF flow conditions for CANDU fuel bundle are ranged to high dryout quality conditions.

오프셋 스트립 휜이 있는 협소 사각유로의 비등열전달 (Boiling Heat Transfer in a Narrow Rectangular Channel with Offset Strip Fins)

  • An experimental study on saturated flow boiling heat transfer of R113 was peformed in a vertical narrow rectangular channel with offset strip fins. Two-phase pressure gradients and boiling heat transfer coefficients in an electrically heated test section were measured in the range of quality $0{\sim}0.6$, mass flux $17{\sim}43kg/m^{2}s$, and heat flux of $500{\sim}3,000W/m^2$ Two-phase friction multipliers were determined as a function of Lockhart-Martinelli parameter. Local boiling heat transfer coefficients were analysed in terms of mass flux, heat flux and local vapor quality. Correlation for boiling heat transfer coefficients was proposed, which was in good agreement with experimental data.

연료 고온물성을 고려한 초음속 연소기 재생냉각 유로 설계 (Regenerative Cooling Channel Design of a Supersonic Combustor Considering High-Temperature Property of Fuel)

  • 초음속 연소기에 대해 연료에 의한 연소기 재생 냉각을 가정하여 재생 냉각 유로 형상 설계를 수행하였다. 준일차원 모델을 사용하여 고온 측 및 저온 측 유동 계산을 수행하였으며 이 과정에서 양쪽 사이의 열전달을 계산하였다. 기준 형상에서 총 열교환량은 10.7 kW, 열유속은 $566kW/m^2$, 열교환기 입출구에서의 연료 온도 변화는 153 K으로 계산되었다. 7개의 열교환기 유로 형상에 대하여 열전달 성능을 비교하였다.

  • 인쇄기판형 열교환기는 금속박판에 유체의 유로를 형성하여 고온고압 환경에서 금속분자의 확산을 이용하여 접합하는 방식으로 제작하므로 고온고압 유체의 열교환에 유리한 장점을 가지고 있다. 또한 금속박판에 유로를 미세하게 식각하여 형성시킬 수 있으므로 단위체적당 전열면적을 크게 할 수 있어 열교환 집적도가 향상되어 고효율의 열전달 효과를 낼 수 있다. 집적도를 향상시키기 위해서는 금속부분을 줄일수록 유리하나 미세채널 내에 고압 유체가 흐르게 되면 압력에 의한 변형이 발생할 수 있으므로 채널간 금속박판의 변형이 일어나지 않도록 채널 형상 및 구조를 설계하여야 한다. 또한 미세채널이 모여서 배관으로 연결되는 헤더 부분의 내압설계도 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 기존 내압규격을 이용하여 운전 조건에 따라 인쇄기판형 열교환기를 설계할 수 있는 방법론을 제시하고 유동조건에 따른 전산해석을 통하여 설계 결과를 검증해 보고자 한다.

EMP 방호시설의 덕트 및 배관 최적 설계 방안 (Design Optimization for Air Ducts and Fluid Pipes at Electromagnetic Pulse(EMP) Shield in Highly Secured Facilities)

  • This study conducted a computational fluid dynamics(CFD) analysis to find an appropriate diameter or sectional area of air ducts and fluid pipes which have an electromagnetic pulse(EMP) shied to protect indoor electronic devices in special buildings like military fortifications. The result shows that the optimized outdoor air intake size can be defined with either the ratio of the maximum air velocity in the supply duct to the air intake size, or the shape ratio of indoor supply diffuser to the outdoor air intake. In the case of water channel, the fluid velocity at EMP shield with the identical size of the pipe, decreases by 25% in average due to the resistance of the shield. The enlargement of diameter at the shield, 2 step, improves the fluid flow. It illustrated that the diameter of downstream pipe size is 1step larger than the upstream for providing the design flow rate. The shield increases friction and resistance, in the case of oil pipe, so the average flow velocity at the middle of the shield increase by 50% in average. In consideration of the fluid viscosity, the oil pipe should be enlarged 4 or 5 step from the typical design configuration. Therefore, the fluid channel size for air, water, and oil, should be reconsidered by the engineering approach when EMP shield is placed in the middle of channel.

횡단 배수로에서 토석류 퇴적에 대한 유사농도와 바닥경사 영향 실험연구 (Experimental Investigation of Effects of Sediment Concentration and Bed Slope on Debris Flow Deposition in Culvert)

  • 토석류는 산간지역에서 발생할 수 있는 가장 위험한 자연현상 중 하나이다. 토석류로 인한 배수구조물의 통수능 저하는 도로의 파괴뿐만 아니라 인명과 재산의 피해를 야기시킬 수도 있다. 이러한 토석류 피해를 막기 위한 배수구조물의 진보된 설계 기술을 개발하기 위해서는 토석류의 유사체적농도 그리고 접근 수로와 배수로의 경사를 포함하는 다양한 조건에 대해서 토석류의 흐름 거동을 이해하고 정확하게 재현할 수 있어야 한다. 이 연구에서는 경사 변화점을 갖는 일정한 폭의 사각형 수로에서 일련의 토석류 실험을 실시하였다. 실험수로는 $15^{\circ}{\sim}30^{\circ}$의 경사조절이 가능한 접근수로와 전형적인 배수로를 재현하기 위한 $0^{\circ}{\sim}12^{\circ}$의 경사조절이 가능한 하류부 배수로로 이루어진다. 실험은 서로 다른 수로의 경사와 유사체적농도의 조합으로 구성된 전체 22개의 실험조건에 대해서 수행하여 이들 실험 변수들이 토석류의 흐름 거동에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 실험결과는 먼저 동일 유량 조건에 대해서 토석류 흐름은 물 흐름에 비해서 유사체적농도에 따라서 약 50%에서 150%정도 수심이 크게 형성되는 것으로 나타났다. 실험결과는 배수로에서 토석류의 흐름 거동과 퇴적의 시간적 변화 특성이 접근수로 및 배수로의 바닥경사 그리고 유사체적농도 특성에 지배됨을 정량적으로 보여준다. 아울러 실험 자료에 근거해서, 토석류의 퇴적을 방지할 수 있는 배수로의 최적 경사를 결정할 수 있는 로지스틱 모형을 개발하였다. 이 로지스틱 모형은 우수한 정확도로 배수로에서의 토석류 퇴적 유무를 판별할 수 있는 것으로 나타났다.

Direct Numerical Simulation of Channel Flow with Wall Injection

  • The present study investigates turbulent flows subject to strong wall injection in a channel through a Direct Numerical Simulation technique. These flows are pertinent to internal flows inside the hybrid rocket motors. A simplified model problem where a regression process at the wall is idealized by the wall blowing has been studied to gain a better understanding of how the near-wall turbulent structures are modified. As the strength of wall blowing increases, the turbulence intensities and Reynolds shear stress increase rapidly and this is thought to result from the shear instability induced by the injected flows at the wall. Also, turbulent viscosity grows rapidly as the flow moves downstream. Thus, the effect of wall-blowing modifies the state of turbulence significantly and more sophisticated turbulence modeling would be required to predict this type of flows accurately.

마찰저항감소를 위한 난류유동의 DNS/LES 해석기술의 개발 (Development of Numerical Tool for the DNS/LES of Turbulent Flow for Frictional Drag Reduction)

  • The friction drag reduction of a ship is of prime importance for the design and production of high-valued/high-tech ship. Thus, this study carried out the development of reliable numerical tools to identify the friction drag reduction mechanism for turbulent boundary layer on the ship surface and to deduce the optimum reduction technique by numerical experiment. The developed LES and DNS numerical tools were applied to simulate the turbulent channel flow These results were very well matched with previous results not only qualitatively but also quantitatively. The parallelization using MPI (Message Passing Interface) technique implemented in the developed code to speed up the simulation and to obtain the accurate results from the fine grid system was testified its computational efficiency.

  • In general, the function of intake structure, whether it be a open channel, a fully wetted tunnel, a sump or a tank, is to supply an evenly distributed flow to a pump station. An even distribution of flow, characterized by strong local flow, can result in formation of surface or submerged vortices, and with certain low values of submergence, may introduce air into pump, causing a reduction of capacity and efficiency, an increase in vibration and additional noise. Unfortunately in order to design the sump station, the reasonable code or the standards weren't presented yet in Korea. Thus, some researchers had often referred the HI code, JSME code or CEN code to design the sump station. This study aims to prescribe the standard of sump design which were matched well the Korean pump station. Thus, the HI code and TSJ code would be interpreted fully to Korean language, the part of interpreted clauses of the western codes would be selected to compose the standard.

  • The HANARO, a multi-purpose research reactor of 30 MWth open-tank-in-pool type, has been under normal operation since its initial criticality In February, 1995. Many experiments should be safely performed to activate the utilization of the HANARO. A flow simulation facility is being developed for the endurance test of reactivity control units for extended life times and the verification of structural integrity of those experimental facilities prior to loading in the HANARO. This test facility is composed of three major parts; a half-core structure assembly, flow circulation system and support system. The flow circulation system is composed of a circulation pump, a core flow pipe, a core bypass flow pipe and instruments. The system is to be filled with de-mineralized water and the flow should be met the design flow to simulate similar flow characteristics in the core channel of the half-core test facility to the HANARO. This paper, therefore, describes an analytical analysis to study the flow behavior of the system. The computational flow analysis has been performed for the verification of system pressure variation through the three-dimensional analysis program with standard k-$\epsilon$ turbulence model and for the verification of the structural piping integrity through the finite element method. The results of the analysis are satisfied the design requirements and structural piping integrity of flow circulation system.
