Although the stall stagnation phenomena have often been experienced in site and also analytically in numerical experiments in surges in systems of compressors and flow paths, the fundamental causes have not been identified yet. In order to clarify the situations, behaviours of infinitesimal disturbance waves superposed on a main flow were studied in a simplified one-dimensional flow model. A ratio of the amplifying rate of the system instability to the characteristic slope of the compressor element was surveyed as the instability enhancement factor. Numerical calculations have shown the following tendency of the factor. In the situation where both the sectional area ratio and the length ratio of the delivery flow-path to the suction duct are sufficiently large, the enhancement factors are greater in magnitude, which means occurrence of ordinary deep surges. However, in the situation where the area ratio and/or the length ratio is relatively smaller, the enhancement factor tends to lessen significantly, which situation tends to suppress deep surges for the same value of the characteristic slope. It could result in the stall stagnation condition. In the domain of area ratio vs. length ratio of the delivery duct to the suction duct, contour-lines of the enhancement factor behave qualitatively similar to those of the stall stagnation boundaries of a fan analytically obtained, suggesting that a certain range of the enhancement factor values could specify the stagnation occurrence. The significant decreases in the factors are observed to accompany appearances of phase lags and travelling waves in the wave motions, which macroscopically suggests breaking down of the complete surge actions of filling and emptying of the air in the delivery duct. The strength of the action is deeply related with acoustic interferences and is evaluated in terms of the volume-modified reduced resonance frequency proposed by the author. These observations have shown the fundamental cause and the sequence of the stall stagnation in principle.
This paper studies the particularities of the forced vibration of the hydro-elastic system consisting of a moving elastic plate, compressible viscous fluid and rigid wall. This study is made by employing the discrete-analytical solution method proposed in the paper by the authors (Akbarov and Panakhli (2015)). It is assumed that in the initial state the fluid flow is caused by the axial movement of the plate and the additional lineally-located time-harmonic forces act on the plate and these forces cause additional flow field in the fluid and a stress-strain state in the plate. The stress-strain state in the plate is described by utilizing the exact equations and relations of the linear elastodynamics. However, the additional fluid flow field is described with linearized Navier-Stokes equations for a compressible viscous fluid. Numerical results related to the influence of the problem parameters on the frequency response of the normal stress acting on the plate fluid interface plane and fluid flow velocity on this plane are presented and discussed. In this discussion, attention is focused on the influence of the initial plate axial moving velocity on these responses. At the same, it is established that as a result of the plate moving a resonance type of phenomenon can take place under forced vibration of the system. Moreover, numerical results regarding the influence of the fluid compressibility on these responses are also presented and discussed.

The bottom structure of an instrumented capsule is a part which is joined at the receptacle of the flow tube in the reactor in-core. A geometrical change of the bottom structure has an effect on the pressure drop and the vibration of the capsule. The out-pile test to evaluate the structural integrity of the material capsule called 04M-17U was performed by using a single channel and a half core test loop. From the pressure drop test, the optimized diameter of the cone shape's bottom structure which satisfies HANARO's flow requirement (19.6 kg/s) is 71 mm. The maximum displacement of the capsule measured at the half core test loop is lower than 1.0 mm. From the analysis results, it is found that the test hole will not be interfered with near the flow tubes because its displacement due to the cooling water is very small at 0.072 mm. The fundamental frequency of the capsule under water is 9.64 Hz. It is expected that the resonance between the capsule and the fluid flow due to the cooling water in HANARO's in-core will not occur. Also, the new bottom structure of a solid cone shape with 71 mm in diameter will be applicable to the material and special capsules in the future.

Filiform hairs that respond to movements of the surrounding medium are the mechanoreceptors commonly found in arthropods and vertebrates. The hairs function as a sensory system for perceiving information produced by prey, predators, or conspecifics. A mathematical model is proposed, and the parametric analyses for the response of artificial filiform hair are conducted to design and predict the performance of a microfabricated device. The results for the Cytop hair, one of the most popular polymer optical fibers (POFs), show that the fundamental mode has a dominant effect on the hair behavior in an oscillating medium flow. The dynamic behavior of sensory hair is also dependent on the physical dimensions such as length and diameter. It is found that the artificial hair with a high elastic modulus does not show a resonance in the biologically important frequency range.

The high-cycle fatigue cracking and the resonance generated in operation of a centrifugal compressor are main cause of the impeller damage. In order to prevent the damage, the impeller is designed or modified to have sufficient strength to withstand the operating condition. The damage prevent design will lead to a change of the flow condition and the performance characteristics of the compressor. In this study, the computational analysis were performed to identify the flow and the performance characteristics. The cases are a scalloped and a increased the blade thickness models with a closed type impeller. As the analysis results, the value of head coefficient and total to total efficiency for the increased the blade thickness model was decreased by each 0.5% and 0.1% than the values of the baseline model. Each value for the scalloped model was increased by 0.4% and was decreased by 1.6%.

Although it has recently been regulated for use as an eco-friendly policy in Korea, the use of EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) cooling boxes, which are used as cold chain delivery insulation boxes for fresh agricultural and livestock products, is also increasing rapidly as e-commerce logistics such as delivery have increased rapidly due to COVID-19. Studies were conducted to optimize the EPS cooling container through internal air heat flow of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis and FEM (Finite Element Method) random vibration analysis using domestic PSD (Power Spectral Density) profile of the EPS cooling box to which the refrigerant is applied in this study. In the analysis of the internal air heat flow by the refrigerant in the EPS cooling box, the application of vertical protrusions inside was excellent in volume heat flow and internal air temperature distribution. In addition, as a result of random vibration analysis, the internal vertical protrusion gives the rigid effect of the cooling box, so that displacement and stress generation due to vibration during transport are smaller than that of a general cooling container without protrusion. By utilizing the resonance point (frequency) of the EPS cooling box derived by the Model analysis of ANSYS Software, it can be applied to the insulation and cushion packaging design of the EPS product line, which is widely used as insulation and cushion materials.
Objective : Emergency superficial temporal artery to middle cerebral artery (STA-MCA) anastomosis in patients with large vessel occlusion who fails mechanical thrombectomy or does not become an indication due to over the time window can be done as an alternative for blood flow restoration. The authors planned this study to quantitatively measure the degree of improvement in cerebral perfusion flow using perfusion magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) after bypass surgery and to find out what factors are related to the outcome of the bypass surgery. Methods : For a total of 107 patients who underwent emergent STA-MCA bypass surgery with large vessel occlusion, the National Institute of Health stroke scale (NIHSS), modified Rankin score (mRS), infarction volume, and hypoperfusion area volume was calculated, the duration between symptom onset and reperfusion time, occlusion site and infarction type were analyzed. After emergency STA-MCA bypass, hypoperfusion area volume at post-operative 7 days was calculated and analyzed compared with pre-operative hypoperfusion area volume. The factors affecting the improvement of mRS were analyzed. The clinical status of patients who underwent emergency bypass was investigated by mRS and NIHSS before and after surgery, and changes in infarct volume, extent, degree of collateral circulation, and hypoperfusion area volume were measured using MRI and digital subtraction angiography (DSA). Results : The preoperative infarction volume was median 10 mL and the hypoperfusion area volume was median 101 mL. NIHSS was a median of 8 points, and the last normal to operation time was a median of 60.7 hours. STA patency was fair in 97.1% of patients at 6 months follow-up DSA and recanalization of the occluded vessel was confirmed at 26.5% of patients. Infarction volume significantly influenced the improvement of mRS (p=0.010) but preoperative hypoperfusion volume was not significantly influenced (p=0.192), and the infarction type showed marginal significance (p=0.0508). Preoperative NIHSS, initial mRS, occlusion vessel type, and last normal to operation time did not influence the improvement of mRS (p=0.272, 0.941, 0.354, and 0.391). Conclusion : In a patient who had an acute cerebral infarction due to large vessel occlusion with large ischemic penumbra but was unable to perform mechanical thrombectomy, STA-MCA bypass could be performed. By using time-to-peak images of perfusion MRI, it is possible to quickly and easily confirm that the brain tissue at risk is preserved and that the ischemic penumbra is recovered to a normal blood flow state.

Background and Objectives : A post-pubescent male classical singer has lower vocal register than a female classical singer. Countertenors who can produce higher vocal register like female classical singers with their falsetto voice and head resonance are recently active. The general purpose of this study is to analyze voice of countertenors and to determine the differences with those of classical singers. Materials and Methods : Four countertenors in Korea were examined using a videostrobos-copy and their voice were analyzed using aerodynamic, acoustic and voice range profile methods. Results and Conclusion : Countertenors could produce elevated fundamental frequency, voice intensity and mean air flow rate using large pulmonary capacity and head voiced falsetto. It means the presence of greater energy in countertenor is due to the more efficient conversion of the air flow to acoustic energy. But, they had unstable amplitude perturbation per each vocal cycle. The results indicated that countertenor is the acoustic products of different laryngeal mechanism with other classical register and it can be recognized as one of the registers of male classical singers.
The work presented herein is a numerical investigation of the flow field inside a resonant igniter, with the aim of predicting the performances in terms of cavity temperature and noise spectrum. A resonance ignition system represens an attractive solution for the ignition of liquid rocket engines in space missions which require multiple engine re-ignitions, like for example debris removal. Furthermore, the current trend in avoiding toxic propellants leads to the adoption of green propellant which does not show hypergolic properties and so the presence of a reliable ignition system becomes fundamental. Resonant igniters are attractive for in-space thrusters due to the low weight and the absence of an electric power source. However, their performances are strongly influenced by several geometrical and environmental parameters. This motivates the study proposed in this work in which the flow field inside a resonant igniter is numerically investigated. The unsteady compressible Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes equations are solved by means of a finite volume scheme and the effects of several wall boundary conditions are investigated (adiabatic, isothermal, radiating). The results are compared with some available experimental data in terms of cavity temperature and noise spectrum.
