Purpose - Due to highly elevated levels of competition, many companies today have to face the problem of decreasing profits even when their actual sales volume is increasing. This is a common phenomenon that is seen occurring among companies that focus heavily on quantitative growth rather than qualitative growth. These two aspects of growth should be well balanced for a company to create a sustainable business model. For supply chain management (SCM) planners, the optimized, quantified flow of resources used to be of major interest for decades. However, this trend is rapidly changing so that managers can put the appropriate balance between sales volume and sales quality, which can be evaluated from the profit margin. Profit optimization is a methodology for companies to use to achieve solutions focused more on profitability than sales volume. In this study, we attempt to provide executional insight for companies considering implementation of the profit optimization system to enhance their business profitability. Research design, data, and methodology - In this study, we present a comprehensive explanation of the subject of profit optimization, including the fundamental concepts, the most common profit optimization logic algorithm -linear programming -the business functional scope of the profit optimization system, major key success factors for implementing the profit optimization system at a business organization, and weekly level detailed business processes to actively manage effective system performance in achieving the goals of the system. Additionally, for the purpose of providing more realistic and practical information, we carefully investigate a profit optimization system implementation case study project fulfilled for company S. The project duration was about eight months, with four full-time system development consultants deployed for the period. To guarantee the project's success, the organization adopted a proven system implementation methodology, supply chain management (SCM) six-sigma. SCM six-sigma was originally developed by a group of talented consultants within Samsung SDS through focused efforts and investment in synthesizing SCM and six-sigma to improve and innovate their SCM operations across the entire Samsung Organization. Results - Profit optimization can enable a company to create sales and production plans focused on more profitable products and customers, resulting in sustainable growth. In this study, we explain the concept of profit optimization and prerequisites for successful implementation of the system. Furthermore, the efficient way of system security administration, one of the hottest topics today, is also addressed. Conclusion - This case study can benefit numerous companies that are eagerly searching for ways to break-through current profitability levels. We cannot guarantee that the decision to deploy the profit optimization system will bring success, but we can guarantee that with the help of our study, companies trying to implement profit optimization systems can minimize various possible risks across various system implementation phases. The actual system implementation case of the profit optimization project at company S introduced here can provide valuable lessons for both business organizations and research communities.
To measure the amount of nonpoint source pollution, some efforts are tried to utilize satellite imagery. But, as the factors for water models do not relate with the landcover categories for satellite imagery, satellite imagery are adapted to roughly classified thematic map or used only for the image interpretation. The purpose of this study is to establish the landcover categories of satellite imagery to relate with the water models. To establish the categories of the landcover for the water models, it was investigated to get main factors of water flow models for the nonpoint source pollution and to review the existing study and the classification system. For this result, it was convinced that the basic unit on the nonpoint source pollution, landcover coefficients of SCS Curve Number, the crop factor of Universal Soil Loss Equation, Manning's roughness coefficients are the useful parameters to extract information from the satellite imagery. After the setup the categories for the landcover classification, it was finally defined from the consultation of the water model specialist. Woopo wetland watershed was selected to the study area because it is a representative wetland in Korea and needs the management system for nonpoint source pollution. There were used Landsat ETM Plus and SPOT-5 satellite imagery to assess the result of the image classification.
Purpose - It suggests that making a policy and strategies for a way of Dubai has a strong priority strategy on science and technology by using much oil dollars to prepare risk when oil dollar's decrease. In order to examine the application feasibility of Orimulsion fuel in a commercial boiler using heavy fuel oil, a numerical and experimental research efforts have been made especially to figure out the fundamental combustion characteristics of this fuel in a small-scale boiler. One of the notable combustion features of Orimulsion fuel is the delayed appearance of flame location with the flame shape of rather broad distribution, which is found experimentally and confirmed by numerical calculation. This kind of flame characteristics is considered due to the high moisture content included inherently in the process of Orimulsion manufacture together with micro-explosion by the existence of fine water droplets. In order to investigate the effect on the combustion characteristics of Orimulsion, a series of parametric investigation have been made in terms of important design and operational variables such as injected amount of fuel, types of atomization fluid, and phonemenological radiation model employed in the calculation, etc. The delayed feature of peak flame can be alleviated by the adjustment of the flow rate of injected fuel and the generating features of CO, $SO_2$ and NO gases are also evaluated in the boiler. When the steam injection as atomizing fluid is used, the combustion process is stabilized with the reduced region of high flame temperature. In general, the calculation results are physically acceptable and consistent but some refinements of phenomenological models are necessary for the better resolution of pollutant formation. From the results of this small-scale Orimulsion boiler, it is believed that a number of useful information are obtained with the working computer program for the near future application of Orimulsion fuel to a conventional boiler.

The catalytic combustion of methanol as a model volatile organic compound(VOC) was been investigated over metal-phthalocyanine(PC) in a fixed bed flow reactor system. The catalytic activity of Co-PC pretreated with air and methanol mixture at $450^{\circ}C$ and 60 cc/min for 1 hr was very excellent. The order of catalytic activity on methanol combustion was summarized as follows: metal free-PC < Zn-PC < Fe-PC < Cu($\alpha$)-PC < Co-PC. By TG/DTA analysis, the tendency of thermal decomposition was increased as follows: metal free-PC < Zn-PC < Cu($\alpha$)-PC < Co-PC < Fe-PC. Under this pretreatment condition, the basic structures of Co-PC, Cu($\alpha$)-PC and Fe-PC were destroyed, and the new metal oxide such as $Co_3O_4$ from Co-PC was confirmed by EA and XRD analysis. But Zn-PC and metal free-PC were retained its basic structure under this pretreatment condition. On the combustion of methanol over Co-PC, HCHO and $HCOOCH_3$ were observed as an intermediate products in the high concentration of reactant or the short contact time(W/F).

To identify a solution for the restricted availability of healthy lungs and the high risk of immune rejections following organ transplantation, tissue engineering techniques for culturing lungs have been studied by many research groups. The most promising method for culturing lungs is the utilization of a bio-scaffold that was prepared using harvested organs from human donors or other animals by removing their original cells. In this study, a pulsatile perfusion pump was used to alleviate the cell removal effect with the high fluid-dynamic power of the perfusion stream during the decellularization process, while other conventional studies focused on chemical methods to identify efficient detergents. The purpose of this study was to analyze the developed device by using energy equivalent pressure (EEP), which is an indicator of pulsatility, to understand the characteristics of pulsatile energy transmitted according to the load size by using the artificial model and compare it with the measured EEP. The pulsatility of the device can be estimated with the concept of fluid-dynamic energy during a particular constant time period or fluid-dynamic power represented as EEP and EEP increment. Because the measured EEP of perfusion flow during decellularization can be changed by the amount of fluid leakage and the degree of clogging in the capillary vessels, EEP should be measured to determine whether the decellularization is progressing without problems. The decrement of EEP caused by the high perfusion resistance was observed from some experimental results that were obtained with artificial models. EEP can be used to monitor the decellularization process after analyzing the varying EEP according to the amount of load. It was confirmed that the EEP was maintained at a high level in the experiment using the harvested lungs from 12-13-week-old rats. In addition, it was confirmed that the cell removal time was faster than when continuous perfusion was performed. In this study, pulsatile power delivered to the lungs was measured to monitor the process of cell removal, and it serve as the evidence for efficient decellularization.

Nowadays, wireless packet data services are provided over cdma2000 1x/1xEV-DO mobile communication network and Portable Internet are being standardized for users demanding higher data rate services. Portable Internet can provide high data rate services, but its service coverage is relatively small. If Portable Internet may be integrated with cdma2000 mobile networks, users are able to choose the best service according to service areas and get seamless services while they are moving around. At the same time, it is cost-effective for operators to construct and maintain the integrated network. For the purpose of effectively integrating Portable Internet into cdma2000 networks, we propose an integration scheme including network architecture, protocol architecture, functions in network elements, interfaces between them, and call-flow procedures. The integration scheme proposed in this paper adopts a tightly-coupled architecture for unified authentication/accounting and seamless services. In addition, the scheme can be implemented without modifying the existing cdma2000 mobile communication networks. It is also simple to develop the dual-mode mobile station. Through the simulation results based on the performance model for handoffs between cdma2000 and Portable Internet, it has teen validated that the proposed scheme diminishes packet losses compared with the loosely-coupled architecture.

The aim of this study was to develop a device for solving the heating problem of living space using heated air, utilizing a simple air heater type collector for solar energy. At the present time, this study assessed the possibility of a development system through theoretical calculations for the amount of available energy according to the size change of the air-heated solar energy collector. To produce and supply hot water using the heat energy of the sun, hot water at $100^{\circ}C$ or less was produced using a flat or vacuum tube type collector. The purpose of this study was to research the air heating type solar collector that utilizes heating energy with heating air above $75^{\circ}C$, by designing and manufacturing an air piping type solar collector that is a simpler type than a conventional solar collector system. The analysis results were obtained for the generated air temperature ($^{\circ}C$) and the production of air (kg/h) to determine the performance of air heating by an air-heated solar collector according to the heat transfer characteristics in the collector of the model when a specified amount of heat flux was dropped into a solar collector of a certain size using PHOENICS, which is a heat flow analysis program applying the Finite Volume Method. From the analysis result, the temperature of the air obtained was approximately $40.5^{\circ}C$, which could be heated using an air heating tube with an inner diameter of 0.1m made of aluminum in a collector with a size of $1.2m{\times}1.1m{\times}0.19m$. The production of air was approximately 161 m3/h. This device can be applied to maintain a suitable environment for human activity using the heat energy of the sun.

Due to the climate change, torrential rain downpours unprecedentedly, and urban areas repeatedly suffer from the inundation damages, which cause miserable loss of property and life by flooding. Two major reasons of urban flooding are river inundation and inland submergence. However, most of previous studies ignored the comprehensive mechanism of those two factors, and showed discrepancy and inadequacy due to the linear summation of each analysis result. In this study, river inundation and inland flooding were analyzed at the same time. Petrov-stabilizing scheme was adopted to capture the shock wave accurately by which river inundation can be modularized. In addition, flux-blocking alrotithm was introduced to handle the wet and dry phenomena. Sink/source terms with EGR (Exponentially Growth Rate) concept were incorporated to the shallow water equations to consider inland flooding. Comprehensive simulation implementing inland flooding and river inundation at the same time produced satisfactory results because it can reflect the counterbalancing and superposition effects, which provided accurate prediction in flooding analysis.

The present work develops a method of evaluating thrust deduction and wake for different loads of the propeller using the concerted application of the theoretical tools and experimental techniques. It also shows the applicability of the new method to the design of optimum hull form. Firstly, the problem of hull-propeller interaction was analyzed in terms of inviscid as well as viscous components of the thrust deduction and wake. The wavemaking resistance of a hull and propeller were mathematically represented by sources on the hull surface and sink on the propeller plane, respectively. The strength of sink was determined by utilizing the radial distributions of propeller load and nominal wake. The resistance increment due to a propeller and the axial perturbation flow induced by the hull in the propeller plane were calculated. Especially, the inviscid component of the thrust deduction was calculated by subtraction the wavemaking resistance of a bare hull, the wavemaking resistance of a free-running propeller and the augmentation of propeller resistance due to hull action from the wavemaking resistance of the hull with a propeller. The viscous components of the thrust deduction and wake were estimated as functions of propeller load which were established by the propeller load varying test after deduction the calculated inviscid components. Secondly, an analysis method of powering performance was developed based on the potential theory and the propeller load varying test. The hybrid method estimates the thrust deduction, wake and propeller open-water efficiency for different propeller load. This method can be utilized in the analysis of powering performance for the propeller load variation such as the added resistance due to hull surface roughness, the added resistance due to wind, etc. Finally, the hybrid method was applied to the optimum design of hull form. A series of afterbody shapes was obtained by systematically varying the waterplane and section shapes of a parent afterbody without changing the principal dimensions, block coefficient and prismatic coefficient. From the comparison of the predicted results such as wavemaking resistance, thrust deduction, wake and delivered power, an optimum hull form was obtained. The delivered power of the optimized hull form was reduced by 5.7% which was confirmed by model tests. Also the predicted delivered power by the hybrid method shows fairly good agreement with the test result. It is therefore considered that the new analysis method of powering performance can be utilized as a practical tool for the design of optimum hull form as for the analysis of powering performance for the propeller load variation in the preliminary design stage.
