In this study, control characteristics and energy performance with flow rate control methods were reviewed with the simulation. The heating system is classified such as fan coil unit and HVAC system currently used in buildings with valve control and pump inverter control. The simulation analysis program is made by TRNSYS ver. 15 with the actual data. As a result of this study, the central heating system with pump inverter control decreases electricity energy and reduces gas consumption. Inverter control method shows better performance in comparison with valve control one for energy saving.
In this paper, we researched a parametric study in flow control system using louver with numerical method. Generally, for the large fans with constant rotational speed, the louver can be used to control the flow rate. The opening and closing of louver can make a some change of flow properties generated by a large fan. To develope the relation between the opening angle of louver and flow rate(or pressure difference), we simulated the flow past the modelled louver installed in a virtual wind tunnel. For the various angles, the mean flow properties are investigated and parameterized with a given boundary condition. The research result can be used directly to design the flow control system of large constant-speed fans, which are often applied to petrolic refinery system.

In the thermal power plant, there are six manipulated variables: main steam flow, feedwater flow, fuel flow, air flow, spray flow, and gas recirculation flow. There are five controlled variables: generator output, main steam pressure, main steam temperature, exhaust gas density, and reheater steam temperature. Therefore, the thermal power plant control system is a multinput and output system. In the control system, the main steam temperature is typically regulated by the fuel flow rate and the spray flow rate, and the reheater steam temperature is regulated by the gas recirculation flow rate. However, strict control of the steam temperature must be maintained to avoid thermal stress. Maintaining the steam temperature can be difficult due to heating value variation to the fuel source, time delay changes in the main steam temperature versus changes in fuel flow rate, difficulty of control of the main steam temperature control and the reheater steam temperature control system owing to the dynamic response characteristics of changes in steam temperature and the reheater steam temperature, and the fluctuation of inner fluid water and steam flow rates during the load-following operation. Up to the present time, the Proportional-Integral-Derivative Controller has been used to operate this system. However, it is very difficult to achieve an optimal PID gain with no experience, since the gain of the PID controller has to be manually tuned by trial and error. This paper focuses on the characteristic comparison of the PID controller and the modified 2-DOF PID Controller (Two-Degrees-Freedom Proportional-Integral-Derivative) on the DCS (Distributed Control System). The method is to design an optimal controller that can be operated on the thermal generating plant in Seoul, Korea. The modified 2-DOF PID controller is designed to enable parameters to fit into the thermal plant during disturbances. To attain an optimal control method, transfer function and operating data from start-up, running, and stop procedures of the thermal plant have been acquired. Through this research, the stable range of a 2-DOF parameter for only this system could be found for the start-up procedure and this parameter could be used for the tuning problem. Also, this paper addressed whether an intelligent tuning method based on immune network algorithms can be used effectively in tuning these controllers.

The fluid system such as, the quantity control of raw water, chemicals control in the purification, the waste water system as well as in the feed water or circulation system of the power plant and the ventilation system is controlled with the valve and moter pump. The system's performance and the energy saving of the fluid systems depend on control of method and delicacy. Until, PI controller use in these system but it cannot control delicately because of the coupling in the system loop. In this paper we configure a single flow system to the multi variable system and suggest the application of 2-DOF PID controller and the tuning methods by the neural network to the electrical power of the flow control system. the 2-DOF controller follows to a setpoint has a robustness against the disturbance in the results of simulation. Recently, as the environmental regulation for earth moving equipment has been tightened, advanced systems using electronic control have been introduced for energy savings. An IMV(Independent Metering Valve), which consists of four 2-way valves, is one of the electro-hydraulic control systems that provides more flexible controllability and potential for energy savings in excavators, when compared to the conventional 4-way spool valve system. To fully realize an IMV, a two-stage bi-directional flow control valve which can regulate the large amount of flow in both directions, should be developed in advance. A simple design that allows proportional flow control to apply the pilot pressure from the current-controlled solenoid to the spring loaded flow control spool and thus valve displacement, is proportional to the solenoid current. However, this open-loop type valve is vulnerable to flow force which directly affects the valve displacement. Force feedback servo of which the position loop is closed by the feedback spring which interconnects the solenoid valve and flow control spool, could compensate for the flow force. In this study, linearity for the solenoid current input and robustness against load pressure disturbance is investigated by linear analysis of the static nonlinear equations for the IMV proportional flow control valve with feedback spring. Gains of the linear system confirm the performance improvement with the feedback spring design.

A Direct injection -mixing total -flow -control sprayer was developed and evaluated . The system provided precise application rates and minimized operator exposure to chemicals as well as providing a possibility for recycling container so f unused chemicals that can causes environmental contamination. Chemicals were metered and injected proportionally to the diluent flow rate to provide constant concentrations. The main diluent flow was varied in response to changes in travel speed. Experimental variables of the sprayer were the control interval, the sensitivity of flow regulating valve, the tolerance of control object and the sensitivity of the injection pump system. The optimal performance of the flow control system was with an average response time of 8.5 sec at an absolute steady state of error of 0.067 L/min (0.8% of flow rate). The average response time of the injection rate was -0.53 sec and the coefficient of variation (CV) of concentration was 3.2%.
In this paper, ways of improving the performances of roundabouts under the assumption that the Advanced Vehicle System is proposed. The situation on a road contains uncertainty and complexity caused by different vehicles having different directions and time-varying traffic flow. This sort of system with high uncertainty is called Multi Agent System (MAS). The MAS is a collective system, including numbers of agents and performs high diversity of the configuration as well as it has nonlinear property and complexity. Hence it is difficult to analyze and control the multi-agent system. A roundabout can be considered as an MAS with numbers of moving vehicles. So it must be difficult to use a centralized control technique to all vehicles in an intersection. Therefore, to improve the performances of roundabouts, multi-agents flow control algorithm for vehicles in Roundabouts using 'self-organization' technique is proposed.
The purposes of this study were to develop an electronic-hydraulic draft control system for tractor implements, to investigate the control performance of the system and the possibility of adaptation to the conventional tractor. Experiments were carried out to investigate the responses of the system to the step and sinusoidal inputs in draft control. The effects of control mode, hydraulic flow rate, reference deadband, and proportional constant on control performance of the system were investigated. Moreover, the effects of filtering signals from draft sensor were also investigated. The following conclusions were derived from the study; 1. In draft control, there were hunting problems in controlling the implement without filtering the draft signals. Filtering was performed by a control program of electronic controller and the control performance and stability of the system were improved significantly. 2. For the draft control system operated on on-off control mode, draft was controlled within ${\pm}27-{\pm}55kg_f$ to the reference draft when the hydraulic flow rates were 5-15 l/min. For the draft control system operated on PWM control, draft was controlled within ${\pm}27kg_f$ to the reference draft regardless of hydraulic flow rates. 3. In the frequency responses of the draft control system, control performance on PWM control mode was not better than on on-off control mode because of characteristics of hydraulic valve and drafe sensor. As the hydraulic flow rates increased for the system operated on on-off control mode, the corner frequency of amplitude attenuation increased, but the corner frequency of phase-angle change remained nearly the same. But, the system was unstable beyond the frequency of 3.1 rad/s. 4. The electronic-hydraulic hitch control system developed in this study showed superior control performance, stability and convenience compared to conventional mechanical-hydraulic hitch control system. It is considered to be a superior replacement for the conventional mechanical-hydraulic hitch control system.

The hydraulic system for discharging compressed gas is composed of compressor tank, proportional flow control servo valve, expulsion spool valve and discharging tube. Purpose of this study is to control of expulsion spool valve. First, we analyzed the hydraulic system. The flow control servo valve is modeled as a 2nd order transfer function and friction force of the expulsion spool valve is modeled as nonlinear model with stribeck effect. However, it is difficult to include the flow reaction force in modeling. So, we exchanged from the simplified flow reaction force of the compressed gas affection into the flow analysis code written in FORTRAN code. Our simulation of the oil pressure system for discharging gas used MATLAB/Simulink. So, we realized 'Level -2 S-Function Fortran' to cooperate for MATLAB/Simulink and FORTRAN code. PD controller is selected to control in this system. Simulation results show that with given conditions the controllers give a good tracking performance.

In this study, control of oxidizer mass flow rate and verification of control system were performed for hybrid rocket thrust control application. Oxidizer flow control system consists of ball valve and stepping motor where gaseous oxygen was used for oxidizer at feeding pressure of 10, 20 and 30 bar. According to experimental results, the oxidizer mass flow rate showed a relatively linear increment as ball valve open angle increases regardless of feeding pressure. In addition, the level of the oxidizer flow rate was kept almost constant at each sequence of flow control with ball valve during the 20 seconds of operation.
