This study focuses on the regional characteristics observed in the composition and floor plan of folk houses in the Young-cheon region situated in the Southern East inland of Gyungsangbukdo. According to the typical characteristics of the Korean folk house, Young-cheon region is supposed to be classified as the Young-Nam region. Our study shows that the open inverse 'ㄱ' type composition is the most common among others, which consists the living room, UtChae and one BoosokChae that serves as a living room and a farm shop. The typical floor plan is called 'Young Nam type' 'H$\hat{o}$tjib' composed of four rooms. Young Nam type of house has a wall in front of the room floor with a door to make the space with the room floor as the internal space. This can be explained by the climatic conditions in the Southern region of Gyungsangbukdo, which has a very cold winter and has a harsh spring wind in Young-cheon. The structural feature to which we should pay attention is the Young Nam type house has a gambrel roof. The evolutions of the house in the 70s are observed in the roof during the Saemaeul Movement from a hut to a modernized roof. In the 80s, the replacement of the heating system, expansion of rooms, modernization of kitchen, replacement of paper windows, modernization of roof, and construction of amenities had taken place to change the space, construction and structure following the modern house features.
In order to solve the floor impact sound problem in the upper and lower floors, the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs also notifies the physical properties of the resilient material affecting the floor impact sound level. The dynamic modulus of elasticity and the loss factor before and after heating are most related to the floor impact noise, especially for the cushioning material. Therefore, in this study, the rate of change with respect to the dynamic modulus and loss factor with temperature change was examined by increasing $10^{\circ}C$ by $10^{\circ}C$ from the temperature condition of $70^{\circ}C$ specified in the standard. The dynamic modulus of elasticity and the loss modulus were measured by using the pulse excitation method for eight kinds of samples. The calculation method was calculated by the time series analysis method using the damped vibration waveform.
Among the energy consumption in building, the heating energy takes the largest part. Therefore, it is important to minimize the heat energy loss in building for the reduction of overall energy use in construction. The most important points for the minimization of energy loss in building are insulation and airtightness. Especially, in wood houses, airtightness is very important for energy saving as well as increase of durability. However, the researches on airtightness of wood buildings have been started recently and are very deficient especially in Korea. In this study, air leakage properties and airtightness performance were evaluated for light-frame wood houses built in Daejeon and Chungnam area. Total 7 houses were evaluated, among which four houses (Case 1 to Case 4) were in the construction stage before interior finish and the other three houses (Case 5 to Case 7) were after completion of construction work. The tests for airtightness were conducted by pressurization-depressurization method, and the factors included in the measurements includes air leakage rate at 50 Pa (CMH50), air change rate at 50 Pa (ACH50), equivalent leakage area (EqLA) and EqLA per floor area. As a result of this study, key air leakage points in wood houses were found to be the gaps between floor and wall, the holes for wiring and plumbing, the double glasses windows and the entrance doors. The average value of ACH50 for the houses after completion of construction work was $3.5h^{-1}$ that was similar to Europe standard ($3.0h^{-1}$). ACH50 was proportional to EqLA per floor area but inversely proportional to the internal volume, the net floor area and the area of window.
Today, global warming is one of main problems all over the world. The cause of the global warming is carbon dioxide outbreak by the rapidly increasing energy use. Therefore, it is necessary to save energy in each industrious field. It was investigated that the half of total energy consumption over the world was used for construction and building. Therefore, the saving of the building energy plays a significant role in decreasing total energy consumption. With the considerable increase in building energy consumption, a green building rating system and certification are required to reduce building energy consumption and $CO_2$ emissions. Of various elements reducing building energy, the thermal conductivity of materials affects the energy consumption as a basic element, which is directly related with reducing energy consumption. In particular, as the thermal conductivity of finishing materials is an important factor to decide heating energy efficiency of floor heating system, the investigation and development are necessary.
This paper, based on the filed survey conducted from August 14 to 21, 2000, examines the architectural characteristics of traditional dwellings of Sujeonchon(수전촌, 水田村) village. Sujeonchon village is located on the northen slope of Changbaishan Mt., Andohyun(안도현, 安圖縣) of jilin Province(吉林省), a province in the northeastern region of China. The village was established between late 1940's and early 1950's by the Korean-Chinese. Later on, some of the Korean-Chinese residents moved out of the village and presently, the residents are composed of both the Korean-Chinese and the Chinese consisting about fifty-fifty. Since the cultural background and the living custom are different from each other ethnic group, that is, the Korean-Chinese and the Chinese, their dwellings reveal some differences between them. Through the study, the architectural characteristics and distinctions of the Korean-Chinese and Chinese dwellings are found and summarized as follows: 1.The way of building layout is different between them: the Chinese mainly follows the north-south direction of building layout, while the Korean-Chinese considers the surrounding environmental condition. 2.The floor level of kitchen is different between them: that of the Chinese house is same as the outdoor earth level, while that of the Korean-Chinese is lower than the outdoor level. 3.The way of providing the kitchen space is different between them: the kitchen of the Chinese house is consist of one separate room, while that of the Korean-Chinese is open to the living area. 4.The way of heating system is different between them: the Chinese house has kang only at the sleeping area, while the Korean-Chinese install whole under-floor heating of gudeul in the living area. 5.The attitude to the way of building is different between them: the Chinese are easily adapt to the new building materials and construction method, while the Korean-Chinese are showing strong attachment to the traditional way of building. 6.The houses of the Chinese and the Korean-Chinese have their own traditional ornaments and talismans on and in the building.
Abnormal climate or weather is more frequently reported nowadays due to the global climate change. Especially, extremely low temperature in winter season may cause bad thermal discomfort of passengers. In this study, the effect of car heating modes on cabin temperature change and distribution was studied by using a real-scale environmental chamber for passenger cabin. It was found that the cabin temperature rose quickly at the initial stage of heating system operation, but it stopped increasing after certain point. And, temperature was higher when the height from the floor was higher. Based on the obtained result, the way to minimize the decrease of passengers' thermal comfort was suggested.
These days, beds have been developed not as furniture to sleep in but Healthcare Furniture. The function of heating, non-electronic-waves and far-infrared rays have been added. Also, eco-friendly materials such as stone, mud, rubber and wood are combined to them together with the radiation-heating method using heat conduction through electronic coil and hot water circulation. Modern people suffer from stress and fatigue. The hot issue is "health." Focused on the health, the development of design for beds considering the influence electronic waves, anions, deep sleep and the density of toxic materials have on human bodies has become urgent. In this study, the trend, specification and efficiency of the functional health-related electronic coil technology are analyzed. Through the analysis, the environmental standards are set. According to them, technology, eco-friendly materials and additional functions for the development of the design are considered. Also, the government is promoting the IEC international standardization for the Korean traditional floor heating style beds. In preparation for that, we adopted new HPT method technology. It enables non-electronic-waves, low electricity and stable temperature maintenance control for the warm top and the cool bottom. Also, the head boards and the frames of the beds can be separated. Through this separation, the beds can be easily moved or installed. Eco-friendly materials such as Hinoki cypress wood and red clay and the existing tables function are combined to the head boards so they can be used as drawers and display shelves. If they are used as separate items, they can be used as covers. This is how we suggest the design for the heating beds.

A two-dimensional BEM code, $FRACOD^{2D}$, was applied to simulate fracture initiation and propagation processes in a rock pillar during an in situ heater test of a rock pillar planned at the $\"{A}sp\"{o}$ Underground Rock laboratory of SKB, in Southern Sweden. To take the advantage of conventional BEM for simulating fracturing processes, but without efforts for domain integral transformation, a hybrid approach is developed to simulate the fracturing processes in rock pillar under coupled thermo-mechanical loading. The code FRACOD was used for simulating the fracture initiation and propagation processes with its boundary tractions reflecting the effects of the initial and redistributed thermomechanical stresses in the domain of interest at multiple excavation and heating steps were produced by a special algorithm of stress inversion, based on resultant thermo-mechanical stress fields at each excavation and heat loading step by a FEM code without considering fracturing processes. This hybrid approach can take the advantages of both types of numerical methods and avoids their shortcomings for fracturing process simulation and domain effects, respectively. In this paper, we present the hybrid approach for the stress, displacements, and fracturing processes at sequential excavation and heating steps of the in situ heater test as a predictive modelling, the formulation of the fracturing models and the predictive results. Two sections of borehole depth, 0.5 m and 1.5 m below the tunnel floor are considered. The pillar area is modelled with the FRACOD and the stress field produced by excavation and heating is transferred with corresponding boundary stresses. From the modelling results, the degree of fracturing and damage are evaluated for 120 days of heating. Dominated shear fracturing in the vicinity of the central pillar was observed from the models at both sections, but spalled area appears to be limited. Based on the modelling results, a sensitivity study for the effect of pre-existing fractures in the vicinity of the holes is also conducted, and the initiation and evolution of EDZ around the deposition holes are investigated using this particular numerical technique.

The pipes used in buildings are generally categorized into metallic or plastic materials. Metal pipes, such as copper and stainless steel pipes, are mainly used for water and hot water supply, and for the heating system. However, plastic pipes made of polyethylene and cross-linked polyethylene are used for floor heating, water drainage, and air vent systems. Usually, plastic pipes have thermal demerits, such as high linear expansion coefficients and bending phenomenon by hot water, although the pipes have several merits of light weight, low price, low thermal conductivity, and the comparatively high workability of metal pipes. Therefore, if those kind of demerits are overcome, plastic pipes can be easily accepted for hot water systems. This research is aimed to evaluate the applicability for vertical heating pipes of a plastic pipe system consisting of electric fusion fitting of a conductive carbon compound and propylene random glass fiber pipe, through measurement of the expansion rate and leakage in summer and winter seasons, in the apartment construction field.
