Collision Simulation of a Floating Offshore Wind Turbine Considering Ductile Fracture and Hydrodynamics Using Hydrodynamic Plug-in HydroQus

  • This paper intends to introduce the applicability of HydroQus to a problem of a tanker collision against a semi-submersible type floating offshore wind turbine (FOWT). HydroQus is a plug-in based on potential flow theory that generates interactive hydroforces in a commercial Finite element analysis (FEA) code Abaqus/Explicit. Frequency response analyses were conducted for a 10MW capacity FOWT to obtain hydrostatic and hydrodynamic constants. The tanker was modeled with rigid elements, while elastic-plastic elements were used for the FOWT. Mooring chains were modeled to implement station keeping ability of the FOWT. Two types of fracture models were considered: constant failure strain model and combined failure strain model HC-LN model composed of Hosford-Coulomb (HC) model & localized necking (LN) model. The damage extents were evaluated by hydroforces and failure strain models. The largest equivalent plastic strain observed in the cases where both restoring force and radiation force were considered. Stress triaxiality and damage indicator analysis showed that the application of HC-LN model was suitable. It could be stated that applications of suitable failure strain model and hydrodynamics into the collision simulations were of importance.

Optimization Analysis of the Shape and Position of a Submerged Breakwater for Improving Floating Body Stability

  • Submerged breakwaters can be installed underneath floating structures to reduce the external wave loads acting on the structure. The objective of this study was to establish an optimization analysis framework to determine the corresponding shape and position of the submerged breakwater that can minimize or maximize the external forces acting on the floating structure. A two-dimensional frequency-domain boundary element method (FD-BEM) based on the linear potential theory was developed to perform the hydrodynamic analysis. A metaheuristic algorithm, the advanced particle swarm optimization, was newly coupled to the FD-BEM to perform the optimization analysis. The optimization analysis process was performed by calling FD-BEM for each generation, performing a numerical analysis of the design variables of each particle, and updating the design variables using the collected results. The results of the optimization analysis showed that the height of the submerged breakwater has a significant effect on the surface piercing body and that there is a specific area and position with an optimal value. In this study, the optimal values of the shape and position of a single submerged breakwater were determined and analyzed so that the external force acting on a surface piercing body was minimum or maximum.

주남습지에 서식하는 잠자리와 주변환경과의 관계 (The Relationship between the Dragonfly Diversity and the Environmental Factors in the Juam Wetland)

  • 주남습지에 서식하는 잠자리와 서식 환경과의 관계를 알아보기 위하여 2015년 5월과 7월에 20개 조사구를 대상으로 잠자리 종과 개체수를 조사하였다. 환경요인으로는 정수식물 면적, 부유 부엽식물 면적, 수면 면적, 수생식물면적, 교목 피도, 주변 토지이용유형, 향을 조사하여 잠자리 종과 개체수, 다양성지수 등과의 관계 등을 분석하였다. 주남습지에서 확인된 잠자리는 총 6과 21종 757개체였다. 부유 부엽식물 면적과 수면면적은 잠자리군집 다양성에 영향을 주었으며 특히 부유 부엽식물 면적은 종수, 수면면적은 우점도에 정의 상관관계를 보였다. 수면면적은 종다양성지수, 균재도와 음의 상관관계를 보였다. 주변 토지이용유형 중 밭이나 과수원은 습지지역보다 평균 종수가 낮았으며, 향이나 교목의 피도는 잠자리 군집에 영향을 주지 않았다. 종별로 보면, 등검은실잠자리와 고추잠자리 등은 부유 부엽식물과 양의 상관관계를 보였다. 왕실잠자리와 산잠자리는 수면면적과 양의 상관관계였고, 아시아실잠자리와 연분홍실잠자리는 음의 상관관계를 보였다. 최근 주남습지는 연군락이 증가하여 식물종과 밀접한 관계를 가진 잠자리 종 구성에 큰 영향을 미칠 것으로 보인다.

수상 태양광발전시설의 심리적 변화 및 시각적 선호도 - 뇌파(EEG) 및 SD법을 중심으로 - (Psychological Changes and Visual Preferences of Floating Solar Photovoltanics - Focusing on EEG and SD Methods -)

  • 탄소배출을 감축하기 위한 태양광발전시설은 산림, 농지, 도시, 수상 등에 우후죽순처럼 설치되고 있다. 그러나 태양광발전시설의 설치 이후 관찰자에게 미치는 시각적 선호도 및 심리적 영향에 관한 연구는 부족한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구는 한국 최대 규모의 수상 태양광발전시설 합천댐을 대상으로 근경, 중경, 원경의 시(視)거리에 따라 촬영을 실시하였다. 획득한 이미지를 포토샵을 통해 수상 태양광발전시설을 유무에 대해 비교하여 총 50명 연구 대상자의 뇌파(EEG) 및 설문지 분석을 통해 수상 태양광발전시설 설치 전후의 심리적 변화 및 시각적 선호도를 분석하였다. 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 수상 태양광발전시설의 설치에 따라 연구 대상자의 심리적 변화 및 시각적 선호도에 소극적인 영향을 끼치고 있다. 둘째, 수상 태양광발전시설의 설치에 따른 심리적 변화는 연구대상자의 국적/성별/전공과는 상관없이 거의 모든 연구대상자들에게 영향을 끼치는 것으로 판단되었다. 셋째, 수상 태양광발전시설의 설치에 따른 시각적 선호도는 낮으며, 이는 수상 태양광발전시설로 인해 경관의 '친근성' 및 '자연성'에 부정적 영향을 주는 것을 알 수 있다. 또한 이런 시각적 선호도의 변화는 연구대상자의 성별/전공에 따른 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 시(視)거리에 따른 수상 태양광발전시설이 관찰자에게 끼치는 심리적 변화 및 시각적 선호도는 근경이 중경과 원경보다 높은 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

방현재와 계류삭 효과를 고려한 부유체의 상대운동 모사 (SIMULATION OF RELATIVE MOTION OF FLOATING BODIES INCLUDING EFFECTS OF A FENDER AND A HAWSER)

  • A developed code is applied to simulate relative motion of floating bodies in a side-by-side arrangement, including effects of a fender and a hawser. The developed code is based on the flux-difference splitting scheme for immiscible incompressible fluids and the hybrid Cartesian/immersed boundary method. To validate the developed code for free surface flows around deforming boundaries, the water wave generation is simulated, which is caused by bed movement. The computed wave profile and time histories of wave elevation are compared with other experimental and computational results. The effects of a fender and a hawser are modeled by asymmetric force acting on the floating bodies according to a relative displacement with the bounds, in which the fender and the hawser exert no force on the bodies. It has been observed that the floating body can be accelerated by a gap flow due to a phase difference caused by the free surface. Grid independency is established for the computed time history of the body velocity, based on three different size grids.

천해역에 위치한 바지형 부유체의 계류시스템 설계 (The Design Development on the Mooring System of a Floating Barge Positioned in the Shallow Water Zone)

  • 본 연구는 험한 해양환경하에서 천해역에 떠 있는 부유체 해양양식장의 동적 거동 해석기법을 연구하기 위해 시도되었다. 본 연구의 내용은 양식장의 설치 위치를 연안이 아닌 근해지역으로 옮겼을 때 파도의 영향과 함께 계류라인이 해저면에 설치된 영향, 즉 해저면의 영향이 많은 영향을 미칠 것이라는 타 논문에서 발표된 사실을 밝히기 위해 수치해석 프로그램을 개발한 내용이며, 이를 통해 천해역에 설치된 계류라인과 해양 양식장을 모형화한 부유체 바지의 연성된 동적 응답해석을 수행할 때 해저면의 강성을 고려할 수 있는 프로그램을 확보하게 되었다.

  • This paper deals with numerical analyses in the context of estimations of hydrodynamic motions and dynamic loads for a floating type offshore platform using some exclusive simulation code such as code for the simulation of a floating type of offshore crane based on multi-body dynamics, along with the commercial code AQWA. Verifications of numerical models are carried out by comparing the RAO results from the simulation code. In the verification analyses, hydrodynamic motions are examined in the frequency domain for the floating type offshore platform according to the mooring lines. Both the hydrodynamic motions and dynamic loads are estimated for floating type offshore platforms equipped with the catenary type and taut mooring lines. A review and comparison are carried out for the numerically estimated results. The structural safety of the connection parts in an offshore structure such as a floating type offshore platform is one of the most important design criteria in view of fatigue life. The dynamic loads in the connecting area between a floating type offshore platform and its mooring lines are estimated in detail according to variations in the mechanical properties of the mooring lines. The dynamic tension load on the mooring lines is also estimated.

  • The Stokes waves representing the deep sea waves are expressed as a superposition of several linear waves. To evaluate the motions of floating bodies in the deep seas, it is necessary to evaluate the motions of the bodies in the Stokes waves. The 5th-order Stokes waves are expressed as a superposition of 5 linear waves. Therefore, the motion responses of the bodies in the Stokes waves would be expressed as a superposition of the motion responses of the bodies in the each linear waves. In this research, The experimental results were compared with the numerical results in linear waves and Stokes waves.

  • In this study, a radiation and a diffraction problems of a floating body in two-layer fluids were solved by the Numerical Wave Tank(NWT) technique in the frequency domain. In two-layer fluids, two different wave modes exist and the hydrodynamic coefficients can be obtained separately for each mode. The two-domain Boundary Element Method(BEM) in the potential fluid using the whole-domain matrix scheme was used to investigate the characteristics of wave forces, added mass and damping coefficients. The effects of the ratio of density and water depth in the lower domain were also evaluated and compared with given references.

  • The structure of the variable liquid column oscillator(VLCO) is analogous to that of the tuned liquide column damper used to suppress oscillatory motion in large structures like tall buildings and cargo ships. VLCO is the technology to absorb high potential energy made by process of accelerated motions to occur the effect of an air spring by installation of inner air chamber. So, the application of VLCO can obtain to improve efficiency of energy than wave energy converters made in Pelamis Company. In this research, the experiments were carried out for the motion characteristics of simple floating body by varying the amount of internal fluid. The experimental results were compared with the calculated results.
