In terms of the international air transport, the open skies policy implies freedom in the sky or opening the sky. In the normative respect, the open skies policy is a kind of open-door policy which gives various forms of traffic right to other countries, but on the other hand it is a policy of free competition in the international air transport. Since the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978, the United States has signed an open skies agreement with many countries, starting with the Netherlands, so that competitive large airlines can compete in the international air transport market where there exist a lot of business opportunities. South Korea now has an open skies agreement with more than 20 countries. The frequent flyer program (FFP) is part of a broad-based marketing alliance which has been used as an airfare strategy since the U.S. government's airline deregulation. The membership-based program is an incentive plan that provides mileage points to customers for using airline services and rewards customer loyalty in tangible forms based on their accumulated points. In its early stages, the frequent flyer program was focused on marketing efforts to attract customers, but now in the environment of intense competition among airlines, the program is used as an important strategic marketing tool for enhancing business performance. Therefore, airline companies agree that they need to identify customer needs in order to secure loyal customers more effectively. The outcomes from an airline's frequent flyer program can have a variety of effects on international competition. First, the airline can obtain a more dominant position in the air flight market by expanding its air route networks. Second, the availability of flight products for customers can be improved with an increase in flight frequency. Third, the airline can preferentially expand into new markets and thus gain advantages over its competitors. However, there are few empirical studies on the airline frequent flyer program. Accordingly, this study aims to explore the effects of the program on international competition, after reviewing the types of strategic alliance between airlines. Making strategic airline alliances is a worldwide trend resulting from the open skies policy. South Korea also needs to be making open skies agreements more realistic to promote the growth and competition of domestic airlines. The present study is about the performance of the airline frequent flyer program and international competition under the open skies policy. With a sample of five global alliance groups (Star, Oneworld, Wings, Qualiflyer and Skyteam), the study was attempted as an empirical study of the effects that the resource structures and levels of information technology held by airlines in each group have on the type of alliance, and one-way analysis of variance and regression analysis were used to test hypotheses. The findings of this study suggest that both large airline companies and small/medium-size airlines in an alliance group with global networks and organizations are able to achieve high performance and secure international competitiveness. Airline passengers earn mileage points by using non-flight services through an alliance network with hotels, car-rental services, duty-free shops, travel agents and more and show high interests in and preferences for related service benefits. Therefore, Korean airline companies should develop more aggressive marketing programs based on multilateral alliances with other services including hotels, as well as with other airlines.

The KOREAN AIR - R&D Center has developed a solar array for STSAT-2 Flight Model, SaTReC-KAIST, using a fully localized technology and has verified the performance through a launch vibration test, orbit environment test and electrical performance test. The solar array will be launched at NARO Space Center by KSLV-I which is the first Korean launch vehicle, in May 2010. In this paper, a current-voltage curve that shows the power characteristics of solar arrays was derived by applying elements that affects the power performance of STSAT-2's solar arrays to the solar cell equivalent models. The result was compared to LAPSS test results, and accuracy of the solar cell equivalent model and the power performance simulation has been analyzed.
Ultrasonic sensors are widely used in mobile robot applications to recognize external environments, because they are cheap, easy to use, and robust under varying lighting conditions. However, the recognition of objects using a ultrasonic sensor is not so easy due to its characteristics such as narrow beam width and no reflected signal from a inclined object. As one of the alternatives to resolve these problems, use of multiple sensors has been studied. A sequential driving system needs a long measurement time and does not take advantage of multiple sensors. Simultaneous and pulse coding driving system of ultrasonic sensor array cannot measure short distance as the length of the code becomes long. This problem can be resolved by multi-frequency driving of ultrasonic sensors, which allows multi-sensors to be fired simultaneously and adjacent objects to be distinguished. Accordingly, this paper presents a simultaneous and multi-frequency driving system for an ultrasonic sensor array for object recognition. The proposed system is designed and implemented using a DSP and FPGA. A micro-controller board is made using a DSP, Polaroid 6500 ranging modules are modified for firing the multi-frequency signals, and a 5-channel frequency modulated signal generating board is made using a FPGA. To verify the proposed method, experiments were conducted in an environment with overlapping signals, and the flight distances for each sensor were obtained from filtering of the received overlapping signals and calculation of the time-of-flights.
An optical tracking plays an important role for measurement operation, as it is responsible for low altitude measurements that are difficult to obtain with radar systems. Since the existing optical tracking systems have not been developed in the proving ground itself so far, it is difficult to modify them to fit the environment of the proving ground. Also, they are designed as a vehicle-mounted type, so there is a limitation in selecting an optimal site. The in-house developed small optical tracking system is designed with a simple configuration to overcome these shortcomings and makes it possible for operators to operate the system at any place in the proving ground. In addition, there has been a need of developing small optical trackers by ourselves to be prepared for future research so that artificial intelligence (AI) can be applied to the optical tracking systems. In this paper, we described the design concept of the small optical tracker, the configuration of the components to implement the basic tracking function, and showed the results of the simulation to set the configuration of the equipment according to the characteristics of the flight targets.

This article describes a path planning algorithm for fixed-wing UAVs when a real terrain should be considered. Nowadays, many UAVs are required to perform mission flights near given terrain for surveillance, reconnaissance, and infiltration, as well as flight altitude of many UAVs are relatively lower than typical manned aerial vehicles. Therefore, real terrain should be considered in path planning algorithms of fixed-wing UAVs. In this research, we have extended a spline-$RRT^*$ algorithm to three-dimensional planner. The spline-$RRT^*$ algorithm is a $RRT^*$ based algorithm, and it takes spline method to extend the tree structure over the workspace to generate smooth paths without any post-processing. Direction continuity of the resulting path is guaranteed via this spline technique, and it is essential factor for the paths of fixed-wing UAVs. The proposed algorithm confirm collision check during the tree structure extension, so that generated path is both geometrically and dynamically feasible in addition to direction continuity. To decrease degrees of freedom of a random configuration, we designed a function assigning directions to nodes of the graph. As a result, it increases the execution speed of the algorithm efficiently. In order to investigate the performance of the proposed planning algorithm, several simulations are performed under real terrain environment. Simulation results show that this proposed algorithm can be utilized effectively to path planning applications considering real terrain.
In this study, specific review for the recent trend both in technical parts and the contents of IFE will be revealed. At the same time, how the passenger's satisfaction on IFE will lead to make an intention of repurchase and create the transmission of positive feed backs on the concerned airline has been thoroughly studied. In order to do the above, 250 air traveling passengers has participated the survey and 235 survey forms has been analyzed by Multiple Regression Analysis. According to the analysis, the physical environmental Improvement in aircraft system helps to Increase the satisfaction degree on IFE. The convenience is revealed as the most effective factor in the satisfaction degree on IFE while the atmosphere and design is regarded as the similarly Important factor. The contents of IFE are obviously affecting the satisfaction degree in positive side. Consequently, the customers' satisfaction on IFE positively affects to the repurchase intention especially to the transmission of the feed back.
Objectives: This study identified factors impacting radiation knowledge among aircrew, who are affected by cosmic radiation exposure due to their occupational environment. Methods: In September 2019 we conducted an online survey of aircrew through a Google link. We evaluated the level of radiation knowledge using a ten-item (10 points) questionnaire. The following exploratory variables were evaluated in relationship with the level of radiation knowledge using univariable linear regression models: sex, age, duration of employment, position level, company, marriage, education level, personal/family history of disease, and the number of times acquiring information on radiation through various channels (internet searching, watching television, reading newspaper, conversation about radiation with aircrew/non-aircrew, in-house training). With a p of 0.2 in univariable models, we built a multivariable linear regression model using a stepwise selection method. Results: The average radiation knowledge score of the 356 respondents was 7.22. Univariable linear regression analysis showed that radiation knowledge of the aircrew was associated with their company, position level, age, and number of conversations with other aircrew members. Our multivariable model showed that the radiation knowledge level of aircrew decreased as they had more conversations about radiation with other aircrew members and as their age increased. Conclusions: Korean air crew showed a lower level of radiation knowledge as their age and the number of conversations with colleagues increased. The study suggests that more education is needed in order for aircrew to gain accurate radiation knowledge.

Satellite generates a complex electromagnetic noise by conducted and radiated coupling effect of the various electrical instruments. This noise may cause serious problems on the satellite system. To minimize the electromagnetic coupling effects and maintain the system safety margin, system noise reduction technique should be applied from the beginning of the system design. The COMS system is evaluated by measuring the conducted noise on system electrical power leads at PSR(Power Supply Regulator) and verifying a 6 dB system safety margin under the complex noise environment with current injection. The radiated noise due to the complex transmit antenna configuration is evaluated by integrating all unit-level RE measurement results, and the RF compatibility between spacecraft and launch vehicle is analyzed with the above estimations. This paper describes the COMS EMC compatibility analysis with respect to each unit level EMC test results, and RF compatibility analysis between spacecraft and launch vehicle. The analyzed results will be reflected on FM(Flight Model) EMC test.

Payload fairing(PLF) protects satellites and related equipment from the external environment. They are separated before the satellite separation. Payload fairing made of composite sandwich materials due to their considerable bending stiffness and strength-to-weight ratio. Payload fairing have compression, shear and bending load during the flight. In this study, To check the strength of PLF and connected part, structural test of PLF accomplished using an actuator and a fixture. Purpose of structural test is to verify the strength of PLF in force of separation spring and combination structural load applied. Test result shows that the PLF have an acceptable margin of safety for the combination structural load and force of separation spring.

Situation awareness means recognizing everything necessary to understand progress in a flight or aircraft maintenance work. Situation awareness is based on more than simply recognizing important about the environment, and it is important to provide the meaning of information in an integrated form. The KHP provides the pilot with integrated situation display for an integrated form of situation awareness and warning that synchronizes the priority based audible signal with the visual signal. Provide integrated display and warning to reduce operator error and enable operators to focus on mission critical tasks and events. This paper introduces the integrated situation display and warning design implemented in the KHP.
